What happens if you don't euthanize Chloe?

I was too scared to find out what happens if you did!

Man, that episode was DARK. This game has the balls to go to some very twisted places that I've not seen any game go.

I kept going from teary eyed to teary eyed through the entire fucking thing.

Why you do this to me Dontnod?!?! WHY?!

Then that ending..... I was like "NOPE, I'M DONE".

Here's my choices for this episode:

I didn't know Frank could be killed at all until reading other impressions. Didn't have a gun when going to confront him (which Chloe endlessly gave Max shit for ever since it was taken away from her) in episode 2.

Same here, although IIRC chloe took the gun nathan pulls on warren in the dorm so you should have one regardless? Unless you can prevent that from happening too.

Ha, if you don't let Warren beat Nathan to a pulp, Nathan takes back the gun he drops before threatening the group and leaving. Which is what I did; that seemed like taking things a bit too far at the time. I was completely gunless before confronting Frank.

Every outcome I could figure out ended with Frank getting hurt in my playthrough. I ended up sticking with Chloe stabbing him in the leg.

Interesting. I had to rewind twice during that conversation because Frank would freak out and Pompidou would chomp on Chloe's leg. The resolution I got to was that the three of them became closer, vowing to find out what happened to Rachel. After that scene, Frank even texts Max saying he's there for her and invites her and Chloe to party at his place sometime.

Very interesting. How did you get friendly with him?

Also, Daniel's t-shirt is the best!

It took me a few tries to get through the Frank situation without killing or injuring him. While I do think he kind of at least deserves being shot or knifed in the leg, the outcome of getting through that situation without violence actually ended up pretty good. He pretty much realizes that Max and Chloe are the only ones trying to look for Rachel and figures you're the only people he can trust and gives you everything you need. Later on he texts Max pretty much saying he'll do whatever he can to help if it helps finding Rachel.

Frank's a complicated character.

I brought up the fact that he saved a bunch of dogs that were used for dog fighting, and bonded with him that way. I also emphasized that Max and Chloe weren't there to fight him, but just to talk. And then I brought up his picture of Rachel that he holds dear.

Also, Daniel's t-shirt is the best!

It's actually the worst; I wanted Max to tell him how bad it was when he was wearing it before the party.

Since we know Jefferson's car from the end of episode 2 (TPFTHLK), we have his whereabouts from David's notes.

Unfortunately, the game starts on October 7, so all we can see are that Monday and the week leading up to it. Should be fun to map out his path and cross reference it with the locations we know and Nathan's whereabouts. Frank's book doesn't have a codename for Jefferson, maybe locations will match up and he'll have a pseudonym.

We also aren't given the GPS coordinates of the locations themselves, so we'll have to match them up with David's notes. Looks like some major stuff happened 9/30 as well with the amount Nathan was at his family's estate.

edit: Double checked, Nathan gets Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (date rape drug) at Blackwell at 10pm.

Makes you realize David knows more than what we have in his notes if he was already following Jefferson.

Code:
Prescott Estate: 45.531822 -123.921232
Barn: 45.496698 -123.894625
Junk Yard: 45.552381 -123.925695
Beach: 45.547693 -123.935308
Blackwell: 45.535068 -123.906641
Gas Station: 45.528334 -123.931704
Forest: 45.557069 -123.90132
Diner: 45.542283 -123.929815

Went full Caulfield on David's notes. Got GPS coordinates by cross referencing Nathan's schedule. Gave each unknown location a unique color.

Makes it clear how the Vortex Club party Kate was at went down. Party at 8pm, he takes her to the barn, Frank delivers the GHB there. 5 hours later he heads to the forest for some reason, another 2 hours later heads to the estate.

The drugs he gets at 3 in the morning on the day the game starts helps explain why he's so amped when you first see him.

Haven't picked out any patterns with Jefferson other than Frank wouldn't have delivered drugs to him. I think we can assume orange for Chloe and yellow for Jefferson are their homes.

I guess the obvious questions this episode are, with Rachel being dead in the photo, why was Nathan also in it. And to what extent are Jefferson/Nathan connected, must be incredibly close if they worked to lure Max/Chloe to the junk yard with Jefferson beating them there from the party.

In the post credit scene, it looks like it implies it's Jefferson operating out of the dark room (vials/needles) with Max there. If that's the case, how is it David didn't catch him going there for a whole week.

Between these 3 characters, there's only one location that more than one of them go to only once. Both Jefferson and Chloe went there at different points that same day.

My headcanon is that alternate Chloe in fact stayed awake all night instead of waking up just before Max, making the whole affair even more gut-wrenching.

Well that sure was an episode. I must say the fact that I knew I'd be going back to the original timeline removed a lot of impact from the big decision with Chloe. So why not just give her what she wanted?

Still not sure about how I feel about rewinding in conversations - for example why would I ever get Frank shot when I can instead have him drop all hostilities just by finding the right dialog options.

Wow, great stuff!

Oh, yeah, I'm sure that Rachel will still play a role. Her character feels to be too important to be nothing more than a corpse.

i think i cried through the entire duration of the alternate chloe scene lol

What's even the point of granting her wish? You kill her and then you just jump back in time making everything undone? It doesn't feel like killing or not killing her in the alternative reality makes any difference, since you just move back in time immediately afterwards anyway.

I guess there's the idea that both timelines continue to exist and you are just jumping between those realities, or whatever. Otherwise the choice just contributes to... nothing.

Time is always trying to correct itself despite Max's meddling.

Is that really true, though? It seems to fit in regards to Chloe, but Max was able to rescue Chloe's father and Kate seems to be doing fine as well. It's just Chloe who's stuck in a loop of death.

FOR FUCKS SAKE! There comes a time when you have to call the cops, like when you find a sex dungeon with evidence that girls have been drugged and taken against their will OR WHEN YOU FIND A FUCKING DEAD BODY.

Max has spoken with cops at the diner and they seem like reasonable people, sure the Prescotts might bribe some officials, but there is a limit to what you can buy yourself out of.

Also if I were Max I would have rewound to hide the fact I'd found the dark room - like I did to hide the fact that I'd busted Nathan's dorm room door with the fire extinguisher - although this didn't show as a choice at the end so I doubt it would have made a difference if I didn't.

Also Max takes that fucken camera with her everywhere and stops to take photos the the most inappropriate times - can't she at least take some pictures as evidence of what she and Chloe found. Then instead of just telling Victoria that Kate was 'dosed' by Nathan she could have shown her pictures of the dungeon and the empty folder with her name on it. And why did she leave out the bit about Rachel's murder?

Even after they find the body they don't call the cops - or even David who would clearly be on their side at this point. Instead, without any evidence they go looking for an armed and dangerous Nathan, presumerally with the intention of murdering him.

I was along for the ride with this game, and I still want to see what happens in the story. (I'm betting David finds the clues in Chloe's room and tracks Max down) But the last act of this chapter is why I don't normally go for heavily story based games.

When control is taken away from the player and their character makes inexplicitly stupid decisions is where these types of games lose me. I'll play the next episode, but the last part of this episode was barely interactive and really stupid.

No one ever answered my question before so what happens
if you go through with Chloe's wishes at the beginning there?

I went with "I don't know", and she makes a very impassioned (and to me, very convincing) plea. You do it.

"Thank you. I'm proud of you. I love you."

...Goddamn tears again.

same route i took.

she was marked for death, let her at least go with one last happy thought

Speculation time for next episode

One thing I thought about after finishing the episode was that Warren took a selfie with Max when they got to the party and I think that's going to be used to have her go back to just before the party. Maybe after Max escapes the Dark Room the storm is ripping the town apart and it's too late to save the town so she has to get that selfie and go back to before the party to confront Jefferson earlier, perhaps at the party itself.

There was one of her selfies in the Darkroom already

So important point about Episode 5 and the set up from Episode 4:

You leave Chloe's place to head to the barn thing - but she left her computer on with the location of the Barn & has left the board out with all the pieces of the puzzle. David will save Max... maybe

God damn I did not see that ending coming!!

Couple questions:

1) what was the ghostly deer?
2) how do you get david's padlock code? I used the crowbar.
3) how do you not get Frank hurt in the conversation? I ended up stabbing him in the leg.
4) how do you get victoria to believe you? she didn't with me.

Man, shit got real.

Was really happy that I got the padlock code, but then I realized that I missed the Alyssa save in the end :(

Can't really imagine what most of ep5 will be about, more time travel?

Oh and what's up with Chloe being all blurry/out of phase at the end there?

I don't know about the others, but 2) you just be really nice to him. You apologize to him, then say how you are impressed that he rescued a bunch of dogs, then say something nice about his relationship with Rachel.

Uhh... the world is ending. What does calling the cops accomplish when Max and Chloe are both assuming that if they don't get to the bottom of this that there won't be a tomorrow?

2) I told Chloe to watch her mouth (she had a gun and the dog was alive), say we're not here to fight, apologise for disturbing him, and talk about how Frank rescued the dogs.

3) I didn't take a photo of Victoria covered in paint, didn't blame her for Kate, said she had talent, and that we could be friends. When I rewound I could still convince her even with a few antagonistic answers (like bringing up her evening conversation with Mr. Jefferson). But if you pick the straight up bitchy options (blame her, say her photos suck), you'll lose her.

Damn, I done all of those except I took a pic of her in paint >_<

1) Don't know how significant this is - could be some spirit animal stuff, perhaps the fading out was a metaphor for Max's powers failing when she was drugged.

2) I think the padlock code was in the previous episode, I couldn't remember it, I thought it was 1717 but I was wrong.

3) as above

4) I'd been nice to her along the way, and just picked the reasonable options and she believed me. As I said above I would have taken some pictures of the dark room and Rachel's body and called the cops but Max is obviously an idiot.

Question: what exactly did Chloe/Max see when they dug Rachel up? I couldn't make it out. It was a blue blob.

Crossposting from OT I guess:
WARREN WENT FULL ON BEAST MODE GOD DAMN
Seriously, holy bejebus. I lived my rage through Warren. I love this guy.

All in all, best episode yet, apart from the Vortex Club giving me a headache after a while. I seriously can't wait for the next episode. This is one of the best games I've played in a long time.

Fun bonus video: Brooke got so salty she started rebelling against the game just to continue being passive aggressive.

Is that really true, though? It seems to fit in regards to Chloe, but Max was able to rescue Chloe's father and Kate seems to be doing fine as well. It's just Chloe who's stuck in a loop of death.

Well, to be fair, she rescued William at the cost of Chloe's family being in financial disarray and relegating Chloe to a slow painful death and would thus leave the family in tragedy with the loss of their daughter. Time is all about the disproportionate retribution.

For Kate, yeah, I can't really explain that. But then, we'll see if she still gets a happy ending in episode 5 though it wouldn't really be emotionally satisfying if the bullied kid goes off gets into trouble again.

My other thing is Alyssa and you constantly warning her. I want to say that is going to blow up in her face, like stepping on a hose and watching it balloon. Though to be fair, I don't know what happens when you don't warn her every time. Does she get hit every time?

If this is like Doctor Who, then there are some things that are arbitrarily fixed points in time and others that can be changed.

Anyone catch the Doctor Who reference in the barn?

I think Max not telling people the specifics of the dark room and showing photo proof is her wanting to keep the other students safe. Them knowing about it puts them in danger if Nathan finds out what they know. So she keeps to the general warnings and goes with information that the students already know about or strongly suspect (that he drugged Kate, that he's mentally unstable).

I don't really buy the theory about reality wanting to "correct" itself. Why did Max get those powers in the first place if not to correct reality and rewrite fate to get to the bottom of what's going on? Max just suddenly inheriting those powers as a cosmic fluke doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Also I won't accept any reality in which Chloe and Max aren't OTP for life.

Get ready for that reality.
Max is gonna have to travel back in time using the butterfly photo and undo all the chaos she's unleashed
