Like I said, not perfect. They deserve respect for saving the industry from the brink of total collapse and putting in the ground work for the hobby we enjoy today. Nintendo has a massive library of incredible, timeless classics, way more than any other company.
The NES and SNES were truly glorious and I would love to see a return to that quality and dominance one day. Their Wii U titles are tons of fun, but of course, they fucked up miserably getting devs on board and finding a target demographic for the hardware

Batman Arkham Knight is complete trash. It's the same as the others with pretty graphics and terrible Batmobile sequences. I had to push myself to make it to the Arkham Knight reveal then stopped playing it. It was really boring.

Yeah I didn't mention SS2 and Deus Ex because I see them as RPGs. But no problem to disagree on HL2. I understand why people like it but I never got the hype. I rather played Deus Ex/Morrowind/Gothic back then when it came to story and worlds. So HL2 was rather mediocre to me after that^^ F.E.A.R was always a cheesy horrorflick so I didn't care about a weird story and bad voice acting (kind of necessary when you're a fan of Resident Evil). Gameplay is what matters in shooters to me. From Wolf3D until today...

I think co-op/online completely kills one of the best things about Monster Hunter, which is the challenge. While I am not against the option of playing the game co-op, it would be nice if Capcom would stop promoting the game in a way that makes it sound like it is MEANT to be played by multiple people. Because it is not.
Platinum is the best game in the series to me. It is the reason I consider Gen 4 the best generation of Pokémon so far. It is really weird how unpopular Gen 4 is on the internet, considering the quality of Platinum and the fact two of the most popular games in the series got remakes in said generation. Go figure.

You have to understand that your comment about saving the industry from total collapse isn't true at all. The giant crash only happened in the states - elsewhere in the world the crash didn't happen. Europe was happily developing games for the spectrum and other machines.
I do worry that the global history of gaming is being wildly distorted because of a crash that happened in America and no where else... Heck, world wide didn't the mega drive basically equal the SNES in sales?

Even in U.S it wasn't really a "game crash", more like console crash. Arcades and PC were unaffected by it. Pac Man and Space Invaders were making billions on arcades and games like Ultima and Wizardry were gaining traction on PC.
After playing over 20 hours of Far Cry 4, I can safely say I'm less excited over Zelda (And other games in general) being open world. Not because of a lack of things to do, but with my playstyle, there being TOO many things to do. I've been getting sidetracked easily and haven't made much story progress in FC4 and this instance in particular has jaded my view on open-world games
If that's what it takes, I don't want to be called a true gamer!

I'll agree with this.
Personally, I think Nintendo is way out of touch rather than a company that "still gets it."
Fanservice is always tacky, low-brow and off-putting, and it perpetuates the idea that gaming is for horny teenagers.
Maybe Kojima is indeed way too bad at planning and managing resourcers, which is not something you can afford when your games are massively expensive to produce and you take ages to make them.

I'm a bit past the AK reveal and ya, I'm not feeling hooked at all like I was with Arkham City. The only thing keeping me interested is
the joker.
Also, The Witcher is so dialogue heavy, I could not possibly give a fuck what they are talking about all that time.

Grand Theft Arkham, sorry, Arkham City, was a huge step back for the franchise. Someone on GAF once told me that City was Rocksteady's original vision for the series, but they couldn't pull it off in the first game, so Asylum was made into a tighter experience with fewer, but much deeper areas. To that I say, thank God that technological limitations forced then to make at least one great game in the series.

(I know that many people love it but for me finding that was shocking! I usually don't like/play any form of online mp (i do like Destiny, some Halo, Rocket League in short burst) but i was curious about it and i tried that. BOOM. It's hard, it's brutal, it's engaging, it perfect fits within theme and world portrait by single player campaign. That should not work at all, yet it is (almost) perfect example how MP should be done. Still can't belive that it's sooo goood!)

That's like saying boobs and asses in crappy movies are damaging the image of cinema. Besides, games that heavily rely on sexy fanservice are usually not very successful and sell to niche audiences. Games that rely on violence fanservice, however, are super popular so the idea that comes out is that games are for testosterone-filled aggressive teenagers.
While I've enjoyed many games on the Wii U, and as always I'll pick up Nintendos next hardware release whether it's a handheld, console, or streaming device (unlikely).
I honestly think the console will flop. Like even worse than the Wii U. I grew up on Nintendo, so have a "soft spot" for them for some reason, but they seem to be losing their way.
Let's face it they got lucky with the Wii, and they seem to be obsessed with trying to find another gimmick to capture non-gamers who lets be honest don't give a shit about buying another Nintendo console.

There's a difference in that good games are tainted by unnecessary fanservice. It's even more sad when ancient, genre-defining series like Fire Emblem suddenly couldn't exist without tacky and sometimes downright creepy fanservice.
This was the mood after the gamecube's release as well. Nintendo does not need to sell more consoles than Sony. All they need to do is to ensure that their hardware and software are profitable. They have a good chance of doing that.

People are more invested in the idea of Nintendo--as a foil to MS and Sony, as a grand innovator, as the last bastion of "real games"--than the actual company and its products. Kinda like how people only want AMD around to keep Nvidia cards cheap (which hasn't even worked that well in recent years, LOL).
I agree with your last two statements whole-heartedly. I've barely touched the Final Fantasy series so I'll stay away from the first two.

I think that Gran Turismo series is dead and it only draws so much attention because people are in denial, or simply live in this reality distortion chamber created by inertia in which Kazunori Yamauchi is a genious game designer (he is not) and all the game's shortcomings and stupidity are forgiven based on how much pretty it may look on trailers or how much great its predecessors were.
"True gamer" for me is an easier way of saying "someone who I think has a firm, fundamental understanding on what video games are about and why we play them"
That's all I mean. It's merely for the sake of simplicity. "Gamer" only has bad connotation because you allow it to and and allow other people to define it for you. For me, it's innocuous. "Gamer" to me simply means someone who enjoys video games. I don't attach anything else to it.
I would rather play bubsy 3d than ff8 or ten and i cant decide which has the worse story between them. They are both so bad. Also, tomb raider 2013 is my favorite tomb raider and i am legitimately looking forward to playing lightning returns
Why are they so bad? FF8 has pretty good character development in Squall. The romances in both 8 and 10 are pretty darn good. 10 has an obstacle to overcome where you're damned if you do and damned if you don't similar to FF13. 10 had a nice story twist with where Tidus originated and how he came to the world which parallels nice with his motives and romance with Yuna.
Lightning Returns is....interesting we'll say. I had a good time with it. Enough to Platinum it so that says something. But that's not to say it doesn't have its flaws and could have had a lot more effort put into it. Being one of the absolute last games of the PS3 generation

It's 3 years later and I still don't understand the big deal about the ending to Mass Effect 3.
Can't you just be disappointed without acting like assholes and sending passive aggressive cupcakes to developers so they can redo an ending to a great trilogy? Why couldn't people just say the ending sucked and moved on?

Them's fightin words! The Water Temple is probably the most talked about Zelda Dungeon of all time so like it or not, 17 years of it still popping up in every difficult puzzle conversation lends some pretty concrete evidence it was very memorable. Also being the first 3D Zelda, every iteration afterwards has borrowed and piggy backed off of it for game play. It was truly revolutionary. OoT > WW > TP > MM > SS as far as 3D Zelda games go.
I might go so far as to agree with your concept that Mario RPG is "un-Mario". I could see that. But maybe that is what makes it soooo amazing. Not bland by any means. It was funny, had imaginative locations and fresh characters, a fresh narrative for a Mario game, Bowser teams up after all, music was some of the best ever, honestly still in my top 10 GOAT.
In a way I think the same. Not the Kaz part, but the last 2 games were bad. I love get from 1 to 4, they were spectaculars games, but 5 and 6 were really bad. I enjoy more playing nfs shift 1 and 2 than gt 5 and 6.
I hope that they return to the quality they have in ps1 and ps2 with gt7.
Edit: Well to correct myself, gt 5 and 6 were not bad games in a global comparison but compared to the previous gt they are bad.

I think Journey is a terribly boring, overrated game that MOST people only like because they are trying to be "artsy" and act like they enjoy deep hidden meanings.
Mario and Zelda are the most over rated generic games ever made.
I think Mario developers procedurally generate their levels and the whole game takes 1 month to create.

I think it's ridiculous when people say things like 'If I wanted a story I would have just read a book/watched a movie' when referring to action games. I really don't see why we should be downplaying focusing on narrative in the medium.

Pillars of Eternity has a better combat system than any turn based RPG released in years. Shadowrun does turn based decently, but Divinity does it poorly in terms of time. I can feel myself die when playing Divinity.
I'd further add that I can't even stand the term fanservice itself.
It's like this whitewashed term that distances the fan from the embarrassingly distasteful nature of the associated content.
I'm not the Morality Police and have no interest in telling others what they should enjoy, but why not at least man up and call this smut exactly what it is. Fetishist soft-core porn at best, often skating dangerously close to CP at worst, and virtually always derogatory & objectifying of women.
Nah, we'll call it fanservice. That's far more palatable.

The Witcher 3 disgusted me. I'm gonna be eternally hated for this, but here's where to say it.
The storyline was just terrible. Like, they "rush" you to find Ciri because she might be in danger, but instead of extorting information out of people, you instead go run errands. Also, while "in a hurry", you stop at every inn to play cards, you go find useless treasure around the world, help people for no reason at all, and finally, after 100 hours of content gating, it's really not that spectacular.
The combat was "decent", but it was basically a choreography of side-steps and wait until there's an opening to attack. Even at the hardest difficulty, I had no use for potions or oils (although oils helped reduce the punch-bag every enemy was).
Yes, it has many good things. The dialogue was great, and the voice acting as well. Mechanics are definitely an improvement, and the graphics are usually stunning. Grim Geralt is kinda back, and it's cool to play a badass, as usual. It's just so... uninspired. I was probably spoiled by the first two games, but I felt this was very much like what Inquisiton did to the Dragon Age series.
Also: way too many candles placed in the worst possible places! Haha!
