Sony FY2015 Q1 (PS4: 3.0m shipped) PS4 total = 25.3m shipped worldwide

Plus, 70% of those are Japanese-developed. And they are only coming back to console now thanks to glorious sony-sama's godstation4

All hail Hiraitos.

lord i remember getting my PS2 with DMC, MGS2 and Silent Hill 2. What good times.

Yeah, the line-up was stellar. I think using it as an example of some PS4 failing (not you) is a bit off though.

Most of those are 3rd party games, and we all know the times and costs have changed for 3rd parties to go exclusive in mass like that again.

I'm taking a page out of those so called "insiders" notebook. Enjoy my vagueness and try to decipher my post lolz.

Ha! Seems to me that you're taking a page out of previously banned juniors' posting habits in sales threads. The story usually doesn't end well. Enjoy my vagueness and try to decipher my post. ;)

Not always about competition, I simply don't think Sony has a justified reason for price cuts this early versus sometime next year. They clearly didn't expect the massive cuts MS would do last year, but what was the response?just more retail promotions, giving away some PS+ stuff and first party titles. I think Sony is sticking very closely to an internal road map, and that map doesn't seem to need a price cut to sell very well this year, just great bundles and value. In fact Sony might have planned to cut ps4 price every 2 years initially, but demand changed that. Remember the hardware was designed with cost reduction in mind.

I do see retailers giving you older model PS4 for $50 dollars cheaper but that's it and just really great bundles. As good as 2015 is for Sony, its still more of a 3rd party celebrating event. 2016 is so much more important for PS4.

- Morpheus

- Costly new IP releases

- UC4 & SFV releases

- Recapturing Japan with concentrated 3rd & 1st party games

- Growing the user base past core gamers

wander if Sony quarterly report thread is going to become bigger than monthly NPD thread. :P
jk

never saw these quarterly report thread going past 10 pages..

I just have a question... with the upcoming God of War (which has yet to be revealed or announced officially), did anyone know about Izzy Medrano leaving Santa Monica Studio?

source: https://twitter.com/izzymedrano (Under Profile image is written: Freelance Art Director and IP Dev, former Lead Concept Artist on God of War)

p.s. I didn't know if it was thread worthy? In the sense of... who will be doing the Art Direction for the next game?

I fully expect a $299 XB1 + bundles this holiday, and I don't think Sony would expect ps4 sales to continue like they are should that become a reality. Look at what happened last holiday in the US.

I think that will influence their decision to cut price. Basing the timing and amount of a cut on current sales rates and ratios would be misguided.

One the one hand, I'm glad someone so disrespectful was banned.
On the other, I kind of wanted to see how far he could dig.

I agree. He was incredibly disrespectful. I absolutely loathe people who look down on others when they feel "superior", whether it be through knowledge or skill.

Despite that, he has given us enough information to keep the thirsty folks occupied until at least 2018 and by then we would probably be half-way to past half-way through the generation.

On topic, I don't know if that's great or not seeing as I remember it being at 23 million or something a while ago. Seems like they are on track to pass 30 million by the end of the year anyway. Too bad it couldn't keep up with the Wii and its looking like it won't be able to keep up with the PS2 either. A shame that is.

Best wishes.

Just to reiterate:

Whether or not you are aware of it, insiders often expose themselves to great personal risk to give us the little information they are able. As such we should have the decency to show them some respect and keep that in mind when airing our concerns or grievances. Feel free to disagree or dissent but be mindful of their situation. If you have a legitimate issue with an insider or his/her info contact a mod. There is absolutely no excuse for starting a personal insider witch hunt regardless of cause.

They have a huge amount of talented people, specially in art direction. And well, if not they always can hire someone.

People should not get hyped for PGW IMO. Sony backed out of games com b/c it was too lavish a production and they are maximizing profitability. And they're basically running up the score in Europe and Microsoft is like sucking wind. So Microsoft will talk more about tomb raider b/c they think europeans are going to buy their machine and they will spend money on marketing or whatever and Sony will show up at PGW with an old trailer for Uncharted 4 and some indies. I'm mostly serious.

Is putting on a conf really that expensive?

I know that... but as far I can remember, there was never a new face who stood out more than the others in the art department (whether as a lead artist or art director).

No, he left in May 2013. Layoffs happened in Feb 2014.

Didn't know about that. Thank you! I guess he might have personal reasons for that. :/

Dude seriously anyone who needs this explained to them doesn't have the basic intelligence to even follow your great post

Glad I picked up a bottle of Rittenhouse last night. After work I am going to sit back with a Manhattan and stare at my PS4 box and wallow in the memories of the night I picked it up. I knew you where beautiful before everyone else baby, lets make sweet memories together...

lol

Yup. Aquamarine had to stop posting altogether (even going as far as asking for a perm ban) because even the cryptic NPD data she used to give out was too much. From what I remember she was literally on the verge of getting fired from her job.

I thought he hinted at it not being a substantial price drop. Hence why many are dropping their estimates to $50.

Well I guess that is another possibility and would depend on how you infer the hint. At this point I think it's better to just quote the exact words

"a strategic decision not to pursue scale in order to improve profitability"
Common theme in the results release. Let that guide your price cut discussions.

It applies to TV, mobile and any low margin product within. The company would rather improve profitability at the expense of volume. PS is not immune to that thinking.

I don't think anyone outside would doubt there's a price cut due. I would just temper expectations somewhat.

It's only on paper. If you remove the write-off, they made something like 5.5 billion USD in profits last quarter.

They aren't exactly making any losses. Last holiday period (Q4 14 or FY15 Q2) they made 5.8 billion USD in profits. If we assume a price of 399 USD pr. XB1, they could give away 14 millions XB1s and still make a profit.

Absurd. Don't be stupid with the 'because Microsoft' justifications. Business doesn't work like that.

Sure, MS could afford to make the next 14 million Xbones and 10 million Lumia smartphones free for everyone to boost their install bases if they wanted to, right?

He hinted at there being no price drop. People went crazy and said why are you being vague/unreliable etc.

He hinted at there being a price drop, but not as big as people were hoping. That pretty much means were about to hit a Xbone/PS4 both being $349.99 situation that can't be good for MS.

I've said it before in other threads, but I really hope if they don't go aggressive with the price drop then they go aggressive with the bundle. I'd love to see another "instant game collection" type thing and I think there are more than enough first party games which are no longer selling any substantial volume or have enough DLC available to make giving them away a good value proposition while maintaining a chance of increasing future revenue through add-ons.

I think a modest price drop with a bundle advertised/bundled with:

1-3 months PS+
Killzone: Shadow Fall (upsell on DLC)
Driveclub: Plus Edition (upsell on full version)
Infamous: Second Son (upsell on First Light)
The Order: 1886 (try to get enough people to care about a sequel)
The Last of Us (last gen port that was already so bundled that it's not likely to sell for much)

and either

Bloodborne (upsell on upcoming DLC)

or

Resogun (upsell DLC)
Helldivers (upsell DLC)
Journey

A good enough bundle of first party games could be effectively neutral on added cost but drive large customer interest.

You guys want to make this interesting? Let's make Avatar bet.

I say Sony will reduce the price of PS4 officially at Paris Games Show in October by $100. If this does not happen then I will change my Avatar to whatever you guys decide for a month.

$100? No way.

$50 seems way more reasonable plus 2 games (Uncharted Collection + CoD/Starwars)

I don't think Sony is ready financially to take $100 off the PS4

I'll take that bet... And go even further , I will spot you until November 30, and no price change over 50.

Nah, They need to hit it hard on Black Friday

PS4 System, 4 controllers, a map of Japan, a $100 rebate and a copy of Metal Gear Solid 5. That'll raise the stakes.

Better yet, free PS4 with every Playstation TV sold!

I'm not sure if you think I'm a dumb dummy because of the quantity of games or the opportunity cost. Without knowing numbers I'd have to assume that volume on any of those games outside of Bloodborne is close enough to zero to justify the kitchen sink approach.

Does anyone know what pump is in an Autocruise Starburst 2006 model? We have filled the fresh water tank and cannot get the air out of the system. Have tried to prime the system but the taps just splutter then give up. The pump is running but nothing coming out of the taps. All suggestions gratefully received.

And even in PS2 era, only 2 of those 3rd party games were permanent exclusives.

Interesting.

But in this business, where software sales account for so much profit ( or does it not anymore? ) and increased subscriptions to PS+ and NOW are now probably a pretty good blip on the profit radar, you'd think they would be all for lowering pricing in a dramatic fashion if the forecasts predicted anything close to a major surge in sales. Big increase in sales = more software sold = more subscriptions to services = $$$

If they think it is unnecessary, it is an interesting change from the way they operated in the past. Unless they just don't forecast that big of a change in sales.
