To be fair, wasn't all promotion handled by Sony on VII?
I think they just handled the TV ads, I could be wrong.

Square has been no stranger to spoiling stuff in trailers for decades now

Dat Aerith death spoiler!
No one said that.wait.. the trailer is going to be short? ugh.

That's true. The thing is that with these flashy trailers, they purposely show memorable moments from throughout the game. Even if I know nothing about the scene, nothing about the character(s), if the shot is very memorable then that'll be in the back of my mind until I get to that point in the game. It's not how you want to experience a story.
Of course, that's the territory that comes when watching trailers, but it can definitely hurt my impression on the game. That's why, ideally, you would have stuff from the first half of the game shown in the marketing. We know that won't happen, though.
"Over two years in the making"
I think I know how they're going to market XV.
65 MILLION YEARS IN THE MAKING
THE GAME DINOSAURS ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY, BUT THEY COULDN'T!!
BY FANS AND FOR THE FANS!!
Even if you don't know what's being spoiled, it can still be a big deal.
If a trailer shows something 50 hours into the game...and you are expecting that memorable shot to be in the game and you don't see it, then that shot is always at the back of your mind. It can ruin any feeling of pacing when that happens.
Like, if I see Bahamut being summoned at Niflheim or something, and I know that I won't get there until the end of the game, then that moment and feeling of pacing until that moment is ruined.
Going in blind is for the best with games like this. It's so hard to do it, that's the problem.

That's what happened for me with XIII with Sazh's 'death scene,' because I already seen the flashy race track set piece (occurs at a later chapter) from the trailer and knew that they don't have the balls to do it.
LOL THAT PART OF THE GAME
We fight Sazh's Eidolon, Brynhildr, right before that death scene.
You really expect us to believe he dies after revealing that gameplay addition???
Thanks for bringing that up. That's a great example, especially since that CG fight scene was a big highlight in the game.
I have to stay up till 2AM EST for this?
Damn it SE...

Well, you don't have to. You'll likely be able to watch the trailer when you wake up tomorrow morning on youtube.
Kagari do you think Episode Duscae an the later 2.0 was a mistake and slowed down the development for nothing ?
I still don't understand that, why did they had to put him in a coffin?

This was just another part of FFXIII's plot that seemed like it had immense potential but as it was in the hands of relatively incompetent storytellers it led to nothing...
Duscae optimization is a natural part of development. It didnt slow them down.
I don't think they should have shown us every single part of the demo before its release or patched it. Should have left people to explore on their own because as it stands now so many people are sick of seeing anything attached to Duscae because it's all we've seen of the game for 11 months.
Part of the team had to create a specific vertical slice, optimize it, ride any bugs found by the QA team and basically make it ready for certification. Plus all the additions later on.
I don't think it slowed them down specifically, but human resources were needed to create the demo, there's no doubt about it.

The games still a year off.
I expect anything between 2.5-4miñs max.
Anything less than 2.5mins would be major disappointment.
And then a special edition PS4 for KH3, FF XVI (hopefully) and heck maybe a limited one for Worlds.
Plus Dissidia. Tie that in with the 30th anniversary of FF in 2017.
What if it's the greatest 2.49 minute trailer the world has ever known?
Personally, I give not a fig how long it is. I just want a clear sense (between the trailer and ATR) of the general scope of the story and a release window.
a wild yoko shimomura is spotted!
I've seen enough great short trailers for this game.
gimme somethin substantial dammit!
I do think that titling your trailers indicates that it may be a relatively long trailer.
When's the the ATR streaming?
Is this trailer out yet? Fucking christ square. I need this now.
