Final Fantasy XV 'Dawn' trailer

Either way it's been clear from the rebranding that this is a different game.

Agreed, they seem to be gradually breaking away from as much of Versus13 as possible.

Hoping that's not really him and it's just a ruse.
Otherwise, stop changing shit PLEASE Tabata.

That black haired girl (the one with the bangs) has the best design so far.

If Tabata changes that, cancel ALL the preorders :/

Fifteen years ago...
Fate would fall to the father and son of Lucis. (Okay, so three people here).
As the stars chose the son to be their Light...
The father could but hold him and mourn his destiny. (Noctis's father?)
Now the son rises, the dawn of a new king. (Now, 15 years ago? It can't be Noctis, can it?).
And so the story begins.

The wording seems off, or
/and
I can be reading too much into it.
I just want this to make some kind of sense...

Lucis is the name of the Kingdom, and yeah that's kid Noctis and NewRegis, Noctis looks like 18 to 21 at the start of the game so it can be Noctis and age 4 or 5 in this new trailer.

Maybe Tabata should visit Dontnod Studios and see if they could borrow Max's power to rewind time and not upload this video, and instead make another one with actual context to the scenes in the trailer and ideally some gameplay.

How did everyone forget that there is going to be a marathon of XV demos and ATR reports, is it really so terrible to put out an exclusively dramatic trailer at first?

Also, can we talk about who the eidolons are? It looks like the one to the far left is alexander, the one in the middle is bahamut, but i cant tell what the last one is.

Personally for me, it was not that the trailer was bad per se, although the hugging scene went on too long, it was that it was highly inappropriate to create hype for the game. Really, what were they thinking? This is the longest teaser ever...

There will be one ATR and 3(?) Q&A yes, but the demos are just youtubers playing Duscae 2.0.
Hopefully the ATR will be great and show much more than this trailer.

No release date still? Really?

Can't believe there are people that think the FF7 remake will make it in time for the 20th anniversary in 2017.

Well if FF VII:R uses UE4 like KH3 they'll probably make it :P
no idea if they do though, I'm on a 100% media blackout from Day-1 on for FF VII

For a game announced (as FFXV) 2 years ago. The time for teaser trailers is over.

Story stuff was good, though. I liked what I saw. I thought FFXV would have less intrigue at the beginning of the game and this honestly raised my expectations of it quite a bit.

I have to question if they even uploaded the right trailer though lol.

Lucis is a place, its the country where the gang is from.

Its also seems like a royal name, its like the middle name of there royalty.

It's the family name of Noctis.

It's also the middle name of Noctis and Regis.

They're not talking about a literal, biological father and son of Lucis – more like the father (Regis) and son (Noctis) of the nation. That was my take, anyway.

Surprised by the reactions here; I really liked it. The transition on the man's face looks fucking nuts; he really looks like someone who breaks down but needs to hold it together. Very impressive tech, and man, this might be the most human Final Fantasy ever. Hope that the writing won't be too shabby.

I've never felt my heart being snatched in regards to a game.. Man I'm going to sleep if ATR doesn't clear some stuff up I might be officially out.

It was the wrong trailer at the wrong time.

A shame since the trailer itself was great. It added to the story we already knew, and did it in a very human way.

If you don't start out with a bang, you're going to lose people's attention. This was FFXV's first chance to let people know that the days of Duscae is gone and there are new, exciting things to look forward to. People want reassurance of the game's development going smoothly, people want release date, people want to see a good chunk of unedited battle footage with mechanics in place, people want to know what's been going on with other characters like the black hair lady.

And then this trailer happened.

Absolutely. With another game, with a different production history, with a different marketing procedure up to now, maybe it would have been fine. But to kick off their marketing again with this? Meh.

Some people in here are clamoring for a date. Personally I never expected it. But I sure expected something more meaty.

I can't believe the negativity surrounding this trailer. How can you see a scene of a father embracing his child clearly in anticipation of some sort of goodbye and not feel moved at all? Especially when the child is unbelievably adorable. How can you see a young girl terrified after getting slapped and not empathize? You'd have to be either extremely jaded or callous.

I get it if the trailer isn't what you were expecting or whatever but what we got was a story trailer rife with emotional resonance and character motivation and that is far more exciting to me than another gameplay trailer.

Because it's exploitative. You connected the dots for the trailer yourself.
It's hard to relate to situations which we know nothing about just based on basic suggestions and some sappy music alone.
And the more made-up the situation is, the less easy it is to relate to without additional information.
It's especially hard to care about characters you aren't really introduced to.
That's why in some slasher movies in which extras bite it by dozens we don't feel too bad for any particular minute character but in a romance drama we feel very strongly about characters separating because we've been exposed to their personalities and situations for some time and we understand why the plight they're going through is real.
Matrix Revolutions ends up with some inspiring music and a beautiful sunrise but you've just got done watching some utter garbage nonsensical shlock and you don't care. When Indiana Jones saves his father and rides with him into the sunset we know the farewell is deserved.
It's screenwriting 101 really.

I can understand that. I'd rather they weren't necessarily love interests in the story anyway but I know that's too much to ask for.

Wait...doesn't the XV website only say their arranged marriage etc? How do we know that she's an actual love interest rather than (I maybe giving SE too much credit here) subverting expectations somewhat by setting her up as a love interest but having her stand on her own two feet and they're not lovers by the end but...friends? I'm as bad as anyone else but it feels like everyone's flipping out at stuff at face value...

I actually preferred my 4am nightmare of this being episodic.

I don't think Kagari is angry that she could have been a romantic interest for Noctis. But as it seems now, Luna has only literally become a love interest. She has no other purpose in the story, as her abilities she shared with Noctis to fight as an equal with him as a legitimate antagonist are nowhere to be seen, and we only see her sitting in a chair or getting beat up.

It raises no confidence that she is literally anything in the story outside of a hold over by obligation from those days. If this is how it was going to turn out, they probably should have just cut the blond female entirely and just had the "bro relationship" as the story.

apparently there is an extended version of this trailer that will be shown at the ATR

Maybe the whole "Dawn" thing was a teaser?
Make sense with the wording, they way it ended that felt like something else was starting and also with releasing a trailer just before the livestream.
Oh SE you never stop trolling.

PLEASE LET MY THEORY BE TRUE PLEASE PLEASE
