Final Fantasy XV 'Dawn' trailer

YouTube comments are interesting to read lol.

Most upvoted comment:
This is officially the worst trailer in SQEX History.
Some answers to that comment:
The worst trailer in SQEX history UNTIL NOW.
You should kill yourself if you thought this trailer was bad.
You're right it wasn't bad. It was horrendous.
Maybe Noctis is dreaming when the actual release date will be -__-

Also the video has a lot of dislikes, I hope this really was just a teaser for the real trailer, it's not like I hated it but yeah I'd like to see more than Regis holding his son for 2 minutes.

They could have shown just a black background with the music playing and it would have had a close enough similar effect. Really, the music was great, but the actual video was kind of.. weird? Regis' face is quite well done though and the atmosphere was nice, but it didn't say all that much for a trailer...

IIRC, isn't pre-rendered stuff pretty much dead in Square's eyes. I could swear they're basically using as little as possible, save for things like scenes just involving vehicles and landscapes, like a few shots in the re-reveal trailer.

Yeah and I don't wonder the decision, it feels a waste to spend a week rendering some cutscene when you get this kind of stuff in real time out of engines like Luminous / UE4.

Then if you need to change a texture or model, good luck rendering it again for a week. It sacrifices some visual fidelity but adds much more flexibility.

And then there's the disk space issue too. And future proofing, you can render real time cutscenes in 8K later but FMV's stay 1080p or whatever.

Lol that was a whole lot of nothing. Everyone is releasing gameplay trailers, and this is what FF15 has.

They're either keeping the lid on tight or the gameplay development is having lots of trouble.

Ha I love that, classic self-conscious young boy response to fatherly affection. My son does this all the time.

It's a fantastic design. Very tasteful and mature.

I'd play a game with him as the lead.
Same tbh
He also looks nothing like his son.
...because he has grey hair?

You can't really compare their faces because he's a lot older + he has facial hair. There is still family resemblance and he looks a hell of a lot more "fatherly".
...what? You think his old look (a suit and tie) looks like it was designed by a 13 year old?
Yes. A lot of Nomura's designs are very teen-angsty (this is coming from a huge KH fan) and a lot of the original FFXV designs really fit that trope.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like this is quite a wasted opportunity of a trailer. Personally, I get what they're trying to roll with the two scenes, first with kid Luna(?) being abused by an intimidating man, the second with Noctis embracing his father. It shows the juxtaposition between the two characters, so while they may or may not be true rival in battles, their fate as children were quite different and may play a key role in the development of the story in their adult form. I also feel that the art direction and the mood they set up for both the scenes are great, of course along with the haunting music.

These two scenes are however not what we wanted to see by themselves. They were accompanied with zero context, so a lot of interpretation has to come from personal analysis, prediction and anecdotes than solid facts as context, and many were also hoping for release information, along with some more gameplay. These would have worked out better if they were part of a longer trailer, properly fleshed out with narration and voiced dialogue, and accompanied by 1 to 2 minutes of pure gameplay, all outside of Duscae of course. Make it around 5 minutes, shorten the Noctis and Regis scene by at least half, show more of adult Luna in action, and this would have been a great trailer to kickstart the official promotion of FFXV.

Preach it.

Totally agree! I thought both scenes were very powerful.

Had they been in a trailer packed with plot context, action & good pacing it could have been truly remarkable!

Huh, new Regis doesn't even look Asian like Noctis anymore.

I really loved the trailer. Half of this thread is on crack.

"Where's da explosionz?!"

Please tell me why they would show gameplay at an event consisting of 17 let's players showing gameplay. Seriously that would be the stupidest choice ever.

As for the 'contextless' remarks, it's a shame they didn't give away the entire plot and only gave us a glimpse of a handful of potential scenarios - we got to see more of the city, we got to see real time rendering, and we got to see possibly three summons out at once. It's a tease for sure. But saying it's nothing is being pants-on-head stupid.

Also that dog is possibly more convincing than the MGSV dogs.

This trailer didn't give things we wanted, but also didn't give nothing new. It was full of new staff, actually. The problem is focus of information selection.

Well we already have some concept art for an unnamed Final Fantasy game (the one with the Samurai-kinda theme iirc) and if they start development on UE4 right now... :P

The samurai thing, assuming it's what I'm remembering, is pretty clearly whatever is following Type-0, and is not even remotely what FFXVI will be (assuming anyone is even worrying about that right now with 3 AAA titles in development).

That's not what we were asking for.

And aren't those let's players just going to play the Duscae demo?

Honestly, I'm losing interest in this game very quickly. That trailer was a whole lot of nothing.

I agree that Nomura has pretty stupid designs but come on now, Regis' old design was literally a normal looking guy in a suit. I don't see how teenage angst even plays into anything.

That doesn't look angsty to you? The slicked back hair, the constant frowning - new Regis is a much better design and looks more like he would actually have a child.

Guys, everybody is talking about "kid Luna", but... isn't that scene 15 years ago?

I mean it, the girl seems to be Noctis mother, not Luna! She was abused/killer, that was the tragedy, that was the thing that united father and son... right?

If the trailer was in-engine, that is some seriously impressive stuff; great facial expressions from the father character and the music was great :D.

Outside of that....nothing else really worth noting :l. No release date for next year (which I was sure was going to pop up at the end....) and no new gameplay either. I guess they want to save that for TGS (where the JP version is further along I guess?), as the game is likely to be launching next year there anyway; might as well start the hype-machine in your home-country first then 2016 start in US/EU.

Wow, well I don't know what to say other than I disagree with you super hard. An understated black suit and black tie is the antithesis of 'teen angst'

....? Noctis and Luna (going by old Versus media) are in their 20s. It's kid Luna and kid Noctis.

New old dude design looks WAAAAY better than the old design.

Apart from that, yea, shit trailer, but people seems to overreact a lot since the change of direction.

Hmm, lies seem to be a theme of this trailer. For example, the scene with Luna. I find it hard to believe what she is told by that character that looks like Jessica Simpson is true. Could she really be a Sentinel? And why would they tell her at such a young age?

This trailer has a lot of possibilities in it.

The real question is, what kid stays asleep whilist he is being rained on.

And why luna hair so fabulous, she like and in trouble, and probably just woke up. Shit is pristine. This girl's stylist will lead us to the answers we all seek
