Final Fantasy XV 'Dawn' trailer

EUvhB3I.jpg

That doesn't look angsty to you? The slicked back hair, the constant frowning - new Regis is a much better design and looks more like he would actually have a child.
He (was) supposed to be head of a Yakuza-esque family of crime lords. The design was completely in line with that.

And the E3 2013 trailer went out of it's way to show that he isn't always frowny (see: the soup scene)

Literally looks like a (shady) businessman. Do you want to imply that businessmen aren't capable of having children?

New Regis looks like he dropped into XV via interdimensional portal from Westeros. That's not really better.

Man you guys are a bunch of haters and debby downers. :(

I loved the trailer, I rather have them show snippets like this than the usual stuff where people complain about sexy mechanics and boyband look-a-likes.
It's not like SE needs to convince me to buy the game, I already plan to buy it anyways, but a release date would have been nice....

Also I love how Noctis pushed away his dad's face because of the beard itching him I guess.

I didn't like the trailer, but I still love the game. Love is blind. I'll keep my hope until I beat the game(even though I'm dead before release)

Holy shit. What a terrible trailer. My friends and I burst out laughing the longer that terrible (read: only) scene played out of the father holding his kid. Miserable sense of pacing. Outside of the one killer trailer that modified the game from Vs XIII to XV, this game's trailers have been trainwrecks.

I like the design, but it's kinda weird that he looks almost like he's 10-15 years older than the previous present day Regis even though that scene is 15 years in the past of the game's timeline. Is that really Regis? Seems more like he could actually be Noctis' grandpa...

People thought this was a bad trailer?!

Best trailer for FFXV yet; the father crying over his son told more about the story than most flashy game trailers today. Their tech was impressive enough to make it believable, too.

So many chills.

This is basically how I felt.

I mean, sure, I'd love a goosebumps-inducing rapid cut between a ton of huge setpieces and characters yelling dramatic lines at each other or whatever, but this feels like a good grounded way to show some elements of character backstory in the game.

Dengeki Online confirmed that it was Regis. They redesigned him for whatever reason.

Versus was never about crime lords. They had always been royalty. The only thing Yakuza-esque is the aesthetic.

this is what I am wondering as well. His present day design looks very different, almost younger.

The truth right here.

I've watched the trailer so many times now and it has really grown to me.

I agree that it's not a good trailer to promote the game, especially to people who haven't been following the development.

But personally I think I finally "got it" after the initial confusion, when I wrap this around the FNC mythos.

What I personally feel from the scene is that here's King Regis, the great ruler of his kingdom, he has all the wealth and power in the world. Yet he is unable to protect his loved son from the divine fate that has been cast on him, presumably something bad. He's surrounded by his great crown city yet completely exposed to the greater forces above them.

The gods (fal'cie) aren't necessarily there physically, but he can still sense them watching, waiting to take away his only son. All he can do is hold him.

We don't know much about Regis but to me it really paints the image of how he is a loving father, before anything else.

I think it's a great foundation to whatever is coming, no blaming anyone who doesn't feel the same but that's my personal feeling.

Concept of the trailer is good, but pacing is terrible.
For example, they can insert a lot of cut scene within the long-hugging as a Regis's foreseeing of what will happen to his poor son. But they didn't and just air the scene without editing.

I honestly can't see how "slicked back hair" could be interpreted as "angsty". Is there actually a medium that often makes that kind of visual connection?

And about the frown... expression changes depending on situation, of course?

There's ways to do good story trailers without setpieces and dramatic line yelling.

This isn't a good story trailer.

For better or worse, the previous Regis design fitted more cohesively into the cast (that good ol' Nomura aesthetic), and he shared similar facial features to Noctis. The new Regis design has distinctive cheek bones, brow and nose. New!Regis looks more realistic, whereas Noctis and the previous Regis design were more highly stylised. It looks like an FFXII character has been transplanted into FFXV, and there is a weird dissonance between the two. They don't look remotely related... which is fair enough if that is plot related, but we obviously don't know currently.

Also, DILF!Regis was finnnnnnnnne, and it's been a few hours since this revelation and I'm still bitter.

Trailer was fine, not sure why there's so much drama around it. Sure there was no gameplay, but wasn't there supposed to be some kind of floor demo going on?

While I maintain that the trailer is not worth any hype it does show Regis as the biggest badass we have seen in XV so far even while crying and holding his kid. Standing with his sword drawn against 3 Gods or summons.

I'd like to see the game. You know the important stuff.

Watched it a second time. It's better the second time but man I hope there's much more substantial video/gameplay/something at the ATR.

"worst trailer in SE history" is a bit of an overstatement lol...it certainly wasn't something to ride home about and go, "WOW LOOK AT THIS!!!"

You know, Regis could have had a make-over 15 years after. AFAIK in the Jump Festa (2014) trailer, he looked like this:

It will be kinda odd if they suddenly changed his look in less than a year (or even 9-10 months apart).

I'll reserve my opinion for now till the ATB... Which is 3 hours from now I believe.

You mean generic king from any western series/novel/play/movie/cartoon ever is better than actual character design that creates unique physiognomies? I do not agree.

These two comments together are quite funny to me, as looking at the old Regis I was reminded of Tywin. A modern day Tywin would look exactly like that. Now he looks more like Eddard...get Sean Bean as the English VA.

I think both the actual scenes we got here are good, the main problem is that the second one dragged on too long. I kept thinking after a minute straight of that scene that it would change any second now but it never did. If they had cut this trailer down to two minutes or so, with only 45 seconds to a minute on the Regis-Noctis bonding, it would have been considerably better. There would still be a lot of backlash but I would say a good deal of it is from thinking there would be more given the length of the trailer.

Yeah, I didn't even thought about that. Put Regis' new design side by side to Luna's in this trailer. They look like two different games.
