Final Fantasy XV 'Dawn' trailer

So let's see...
...This is the first time we meet Noctis Lucis Caelum Dad,
till this point we had orignally thought his actual dad was someone else
the real King of Lucis. It seems to be that Noctics was given the power to see the light
in this trailer by those entities in the sky.

Did I get this right or no?

What a bizarre choice for a trailer that supposedly is the start of the FFXV promotion. I hope they will release another trailer during ATR, cause this is really not a strong start. Nothing but teasing once again.

Hopefully...even just gameplay. Though they promised the start of a promotional "blowout" for FFXV. Far from a blowout if this was the highlight. Hopefully this will just be the tease of whats to follow in the ATR

You're right, it's not a story trailer. It's a character trailer, and it succeeds admirably at showing a loving father who, I'm sure, will be dead within hours of the game starting.

Exactly.

I thought it was supposed to the start of marketing for the game.

And there will be more, be assured. We've seen the game already for 9 years now in different formats and even played a demo, it's just one trailer among many.

That was not what people wanted or were expecting but it's a really nice scene indeed =)
I thought a release date was coming, they said were going all out at Gamescom after missing E3....emmmm lol? TGS? Wait for the active time segment?

I doubt it was aimed at them. It's a snippet from the game preceding an event (ATR) watched mostly by hardcore fans. There are going to be more expansive trailers leading up to release, I'm sure.

Guess I'm a casual peasant for not understanding what's going on then.

Everyone has been moaning about SE showing off too much and having spoilers in trailers.

They release a trailer that lets the viewer take their own view from it, and then people moan about that.

They can't win.

The trailer works for me, It's refreshing to not have everything shoved in your face in flashy action and story spoilers.

This is clearly a big part of the story when viewed in the context of the story as a whole, we just don't know that yet.

Hopefully we get new details via the ATB though, if that doesn't shed light on new information, then I will actually be disappointed as a whole.

If you hate everything about it, if anything, it's still fucking beautiful.

UGH I'M SO TIRED OF SQUARE ENIX SPOILING EVERYTHING IN THEIR TRAILERS!

*Watches trailer*

UGH WHY DIDN'T THEY SHOW MORE? THIS WAS SO DULL!

There's a difference between showing major spoilers and showing a short contextless scene.

I really hope that the ATR somehow indicates that actual progress is being made on the game. This trailer needed to show off something that showed off that Duscae is not the only area currently in the game. This trailer would have been fine later but it basically tells us nothing.

This soundtrack will certainly be something! Shimomura is only getting better and better.

The game since the beginning was set to be some kind of Shakesperean tragedy, so as long as they keep it that way, I'm all for it.

Poor fans that stayed awake to late hours to see this garbage trailer, a game in the works since 2006 we are in 2015 and they show a 3 minutes hug scene.

Trailer was shit indeed. But even if it was the best trailer ever conceived by mankind, Kagari was gonna hate it. Hope ATR is great or we'll ALL hate it.

Trailer worked well when watched half awake this morning. I do agree I could've used about 30 seconds less of father-son bonding time, and maybe a look at another character or even landscape. I get what they were trying to do though. Going for dem feels and setting up some background for Noctis.

Guess I'm a casual peasant for not understanding what's going on then.

I agree that it's not very clear, and explaining doesn't make the trailer magically better, but the idea is this from my understanding.

"As the stars chose the son to be their light"

The gods (assumedly fal'cie that have appeared in previous games) have chosen Noctis for an unknown mission, which based on FF XIII (which is wrapped around the same mythos as FF XV) would not end well for the chosen one, no matter the result of his/her mission.

"The father could but hold him and mourn his destiny"

The father (King Regis) knows what awaits his son, but is powerless to do anything despite being a powerful man.

This leads to the scene where he (as the text says), can do nothing but hold him in front of the gods who have chosen the child to be their servant.
He can just assure the child (sleeping calmly, ignorant of his own situation) that he will always be there for him, no matter what. And this leads to the adventure we're going to experience in Final Fantasy XV.

It's a simple scene, but difficult to understand without the context of FNC mythos where this trailer really fails.

Oh boy! I can't wait to play Epic Crying Dad Simulator: The Game!

... Eh, it was a bunch of nothing, sadly, and no release date was the real disappointment, but I'm still going to play it.

Lol. That's just sidestepping.

If that's how you want to put it, it's not a good character trailer either. Yes, we get that he's a loving father. But the scene overstayed. You do not spend over 100 seconds of your 193 second (that's just over 50%) trailer on showing an loving father, because by 60 seconds the audience, even the densest members, would have gotten the idea. And 60 seconds is generous.

If in the scene with the little girl and the looming man started off with the girl saying, "Daddy!" and then he mistreated her like that, bam, 10 seconds and you've already established the guy is a terrible father. As it is right now, no lines of dialogue but 10 seconds were enough to establish that character as a bad man, possibly a villain and apparently important to the development of the little girl. It's an economy: concise and clear presentation with nothing wasted.

You don't get to call this a character trailer when the beginning of the trailer put up scenes that don't have Regis in them and the scenes don't do anything to flesh out his character. It's a story trailer. And it's a bad story trailer.

Not providing clear context for the FNC stuff was one of the biggest reasons FFXIIIs story was so bad.

Let's hope they don't repeat their mistakes.

I don't to read the codex to understand the story, and i usually like extra game lore.

well knowing the direct lore/story doesn't really improve the story. Fal'cie make L'cie, shit sucks for L'cie and they have to do stuff, and that's FFXIII's story in a nutshell.

Lmao the whole trailer was the King holding Noctis. Fuck.

The scene was very well done. But not something that translates well to being a trailer for a highly anticipated game.

They were hyping this conference since before E3, so they better have something more substantial in terms of gameplay advancements and a release window.

To think I was planning on staying up for this until I remember this is SE. I then decided it's not worth my few hours of sleep.

I'm so glad I did because this trailer did nothing for me.

And FFXIII spells this out for the player, just the vocal internet minority find it offensive that they had to learn a fake word or two so they pretend the game can only be understood through a datalog.

Well... That was really nothing...

I mean I get what it's trying to portray, the music and atmosphere was nice too, but it wasn't worth the 3 minutes. Seemed more like something to be a small character teaser that lasted 1 minute at most.

If you needed to read the codex to understand FFXIII, you either didn't actually care, or didn't pay attention. The story wasn't that complex, nor were the made up terms they used.
