Final Fantasy XV 'Dawn' trailer

We'll see how it ends up in the full game, but in the trailer it definitely broke my sense of disbelief.

Again, things could be different when we get the full game, but generally you shouldn't just plop these elements on top of each other and call it a day. It becomes an incomprehensible mash of things. If you want these differing styles in your art direction, you need to take smaller pieces of them and bring them together until you have a unified art style. You need to get influence from the design aspects of the eras, not just throw them in together.

Right now it looks like the character designer really loved medieval knights look, the story called for guns, and the environmental designer really loved the 1950s and none of them talked to each other.

When I was at Pax East for the FF15 presentation the game designers actually went pretty in depth into the designs and ideas behind the cultures and aesthetics in the game, it was a great presentation.

It's worth a watch. I'm on my phone so I can't pinpoint where they start talking bout the different cultures and inspirations unfortunately.

Hmm, why bother annouce the trailer if it's going to be just teaser?

I have a feeling that Square Enix might not expect this much of backslash and now rushing on something that can be a full trailer. ATR is supposed to be reveal of game system and detail. But not another trailer.

Japan seems behind the times when it comes to PR, at least kojima doesn't pull these kinda stunts.

Go to say, after watching the trailer on gamersyde, the visuals are incredible. Up there with stuff like Uncharted, Horizon and QB. The actual scenes were well directed, but the trailer itself is not the right one. Again, the hugging scene is just too long.

Or they might think that having dad cry hugging his son for 2 mins will keep the fan please for another 2 months before TGS...

Actually it's fine if they want to do story trailer. But at least give us more context. Something that we can talk about. It is not like we have a background of this game story and character..

It's tricky to get the balance right though. It's potentially interesting on paper, but they have to nail down the story explanation and the way the people react to different technologies along with the script have to be believable and convincing to not make the whole thing completely fall apart.

I don't know. Considering what we know about FFXV's world, it doesn't seem strange. We know there's a sort of "sacrifice something for something else" balance going on with the world's different societies and that kingdoms like Lucis sacrificed war tech for society tech(thus becoming more modern-like nation, but with lack of guns, the reason they still use swords as weapons), while Niflheim sacrificed technology to modernize their kingdom to have advanced war tech, meaning they were basically still in a state of medievalism, but with great mechanized weaponry. This is the world they live in. I'm sure they'll talk more about it(in months to come and within the game, unless the screw up and go the FFXIII route and leave all the world building to the data log).

Seriously, no matter how I look at it, the trailer was pretty lame. I hope the ATR will show new characters, lots of gameplay, magic and tell us a lot, A LOT, about Luna.

Why do trailers need to reveal everything about a game before it comes out? I hope none of that happens. Surprises are good. We already know plenty about the gameplay. Just chill.

So this is most likely a teaser for another trailer then? I feel like there was way too much buildup to a moment that didn't need to drag on as much as it did. Still, it nice to get a little bit more story info and the final shot of the sky has me intrigued.

I'm not saying they can't pull it off. They might. It's just going to be a lot harder with the amount of different styles they're trying to put in here to make it not look like a garbage heap of shit people in the art department kind of liked.

I mean on top of the medieval knights with assault rifles and 1950s guns we've got modern 1990s-2000s era campers, too. There's a lot of history behind some of these designs the game is grabbing, and without any sort of massaging into its own world, it comes across really strangely.

As I said, it's better when an art direction takes elements of things and kind of uses what works and what doesn't and combines them with an overall world goal/aesthetic to create something unique. This doesn't seem to do that. 1950s cars are literally 1950s cars. Those medieval knights are fucking literally knights. etc. There's no unifying design flare pulling them all into the same world.

THATS IT?!

It's not about revealing everything its all about giving some context/meaning about what's being shown to the audience. You want us to care about Regis and Noctis? well why should the audience care outside of a hug that lasted forever. Hell I rather take a tech demo of a city that they're doing if they pull another stunt like this.

33 pages for showing nothing. I mean, at least they still got a bunch of people hyped for the game I guess.

They really have to show something at the ATR.

Want context? Play the game when it comes out. That's what it's there for.

Maybe Tabata is trolling? Ha ha. I mean why change from the usual "In development" tag at the end to "pre order now"
I cant think of any other game to telling people to pre order without a date. I also read yesterday games can't be nominated for awards at gamescom if they're due for release after the next gamescom, so doesn't that basically confirm it's coming before August 2016?
