Mafia 3 Reveal Trailer (Hangar 13/Take-Two, 2016, PC/PS4/XB1)

Hopefully the ridiculousness of the explosiveness and cars flying like that are toned down at some point. I'm really looking forward to the sound track/radio though just going by the rock they've already played in the trailer and previews.

They have to know that this style will turn off the people who were fans of the previous games. Hopefully it's turned way down.

Not liking the main character at all so far. Sort of killed my hype for this completely, which is a shame. Need to watch the rest of the videos and see more of it.

I don't even understand how people thought this was acceptable to put in this game? Feels like Crazy Taxi physics

Yeah, I mean this was the game where you got tickets for speeding. I hope they keep some of that realism.
That was the best part. The realism.

Half the time, I got away from cops by slipping away, ditching my car, and changing my clothes. Can't say that about any other open world crime game

Looks alright. I guess I'm just glad that Mafia is back.

Although the vehicles blowing up when hit is a bit ridiculous. Not to mention that the car handling is all kinds of wrong. The handling is really supposed to be more sim like, now it looks more arcade-y and that's not cool at all.

Reveal trailer intrigued me but those gameplay shots of the driving is really turning me off, not really what I'd expect from a Mafia game.

The more I think about it the more I'm disappointed with the gameplay footage. It honestly looks like a Saints Row reboot. The over the top explosions, car physics, power fantasy shootouts and glamorized takedowns feel wrong. They present a game set in a period and environment that could make for some very high intensity situations, but undercut it with an arcadey sensibility that won't leave a mark or differentiate it from its peers. I figured they were going to come out and push the more dramatic, realistic qualities even more to get away from GTA and the like, but this is not that. One of those videos even says they took inspiration from Bullitt for the car chases? If what they got from that movie was Steve McQueen driving through San Francisco blowing up cars with T-bones, I think they watched the wrong movie.

I think it looks pretty awesome. Is it more over the top than previous Mafia games? Sure. I'm just not going to let that keep me from having fun.

There are about 20 people from 2K Czech working on this, but the core leads are different, most 2K Czech people went to Warhorse.

Well, I don't see how you would regard these physics as unfinished. I'm pretty sure they're working as intended, with them being flashy and all. Kinda shame really, since I always felt that the slow pace of Mafia is what made it unique and different from titles like GTA and Saint's Row.

Hell, Mafia 1 had an intro mission where you would escort people in a cab at a painfully slow speed. Judging by the gameplay shown of Mafia 3, it looks like nothing like the same series that would once fine you tickets for speeding. But then again, from what I gathered from the last page, the devs aren't even the same anymore so hoping for a sense of consistency might be a tad bit naive.

It also seems to function as an action cam or something. You know, to show the awesome explosions I guess.

Dudebro is strong with this one. It makes zero sense. It's right there on my face why do I need an extra camera from the same angle on screen?

I am honestly very disappointed with everything (except the music). That never happened to me...

I don't like the MC. I don't like the city. I don't like the time period. I don't like the premise of the story. I don't like what I'm seeing about the gameplay.

My main problem though is the city. Not the city itself, but the visuals of it. I don't know, it is just so bland. Mafia 2 city was so much more interesting... especially because of the time period.

But then again, everything I'm talking about is based on 30 seconds of footage, so I'm still optimistic.

Honestly i don't know what are you talking about. In that gameplay clips city is best thing. But i respect your opinion.

I don't know how you could like generic looking city of Mafia 2 better. New Orleans has a lot more style.

" Hey, let's make The Godfather 4 a romantic comedy about an ageing man who is a young teenager's godfather and they all go on silly adventures, because, you know, the word "godfather" means the same thing here as well "

I couldn't come up with a more silly comparison, but it's basically the same thing.

Holy shit this is the dumbest thing I've read so far....

You obviously have little to no understanding of what Mafia and Organized Crime mean outside of what you've seen from previous video games or mobster movies.

There's a lot more to it than 1940's italian american crime in New York.

I'm really glad you don't want to play this game. I don't want you to either.

That....was fucking awesome

Insanely hyped, trailer made it seem like someone who interacted with the Mafia instead of being apart of it. Playing off the different groups will be awesome. Fuckin' ace.

Press release:

“Mafia III continues the strong franchise tradition of a captivating story set in the treacherous and calculated world of organized crime,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Mafia III captures Hangar 13’s mantra of ‘every player story is unique’ through a cinematic narrative that responds to player choice

Mafia III is set in a reimagined New Orleans in 1968, one of the most tumultuous years in American history. This version of New Orleans is bustling with activity, complete with era-inspired cars, fashion and music. During this turbulent time, a cloud of corruption hangs in the air and the city has become a haven for organized crime. The Italian mob controls illegal gambling, drugs, and prostitution, while corrupt police and politicians line their pockets with the proceeds.

Mafia III follows the story of Lincoln Clay, a disenfranchised Vietnam veteran, returning from combat and looking for a home and a place to belong. Orphaned as a child, Lincoln at last achieves a semblance of family with the city’s black mob, finding the surrogate father and brother he has longed for. But when Lincoln’s new family is betrayed and slaughtered by the Italian mob, he becomes fixated on revenge and wages a brutal war against the Italians, disrupting the balance of power in the seedy underworld of New Orleans. As the story progresses, Lincoln allies himself with other criminals and builds an empire and a new family of his own that transforms the city.

Throughout the riveting story of Mafia III, players choose their path to revenge and build their own crime empire using cunning, stalking and deception, or through overwhelming force and firepower. Mafia III combines the best of cinematic storytelling with a dynamic narrative structure that responds to player choices, set in a vibrant city that responds to Lincoln’s actions.

“The Mafia franchise is known for its immersive sense of time and place, and for presenting compelling stories about life within organized crime,” said Haden Blackman, studio head and creative director at Hanger 13. “In Mafia III, we are introducing players to an unexpected new anti-hero and an iconic city to explore, all within a hard-boiled drama set during one of the most turbulent years in American history.”

Mafia III will be available in calendar 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation®4 system and Windows PC. Mafia III is not yet rated by the ESRB. For more information on Mafia III, visit the MafiaGame.com.

That sounds awesome. :)

Things exploding for no apparent reason

Protagonist walks like a douchebag

Shooting seems too arcadey and over the top

Dumb violence. Unless that guy he stabbed 11 billion times killed his entire family, it's just stupid.

The driving mechanics seem to be the best thing about it, the cars look as if they handle like they should from that era

But god damn, what a piece of shit. It is so much worse than anything I had envisioned. Wasn't there talk of Rockstar helping these guys out at one point? What a waste.

Edit: Interestingly the race of the protagonist didn't even cross my mind, but of course the internet is blowing up about it. Sigh.

Gramepray is still erily. So I hope it will turn out good.
But yeah, please turn down dose explodin' cars.

Like Mafia 2 after all, in fact I just instrawlled it a few days ago.

Was bored half way in the cg reveal trailer
Shooting looks like ass
Driving looks terrible in those gifs
Environments look plain & boring

welp

Would you cross to the other side of the sidewalk if you met him in real life?

I would not. I'm very tolerant of douchebags. It's a shame I can't say the same thing for games that look like they're going to flop.

Really? I feel like it doesn't have a personality. It is not something I would like to explore. The very definition of ''bland'' actually. But hey, that is just me.

Is he a dudebro to you?

He doesn't fit my criteria of dudebro. He is not a douchebag either. A douchebro maybe?

Persona 5 has style. This don't, sorry. I'm kidding, this is just my opinion. I prefer that L.A Noire/Mafia 2 vibe anyday. But again, I'm judging it based in 30 seconds of footage. I'm excited to see more.
