Project Zero (Fatal Frame) 5 getting limited edition retail set and demo

Again we see more changes from Nintendo. Rather than offering a 10 minute vertical slice that can only be played 15.76 times under the guide of a demo they have decided to go for a more extensive experience for this game. It would be weird for a free to start game to have use limits in any case. Especially as it sounds like the trial version is going to be the only downloaded edition (like how the limited edition is the only retail one).

It is not quite the shareware ratio of 1/4 of the game as it is more
1/5
if we look at chapters alone but of course you can expect later chapters to be longer.

The trailer on Nintendo UK mentions the game is English or Japanese voiceover with English, German, or French text. Was this known already?
Another change. With this game and Devil's Tird all NOE localised games being playable in EFIGS is clearly dying out (those games were probably too niche for Portuguese, Dutch and Russian).

NoE's LEs are usually really limited as well, so it wouldn't surprise me if most people will never see the game in stores at all. Getting your hands on Nintendo's LEs can be a real pain.

I can't speak for everyone, but at least where I live I can get every limited edition of theirs by just going into a store on launch day. Some (like the Majoras Mask 3D LE or Bayonetta 1+2 LE) are available for weeks or even months.

In this case it wouldn't be surprising if the game is digital-only in the US, though, considering that NoA doesn't do as much LE stuff as NoE. How many limited editions did they have?

Pandora's Tower and The Last Story were not very limited for sure, neither were the Pokemon steelbook editions. In contrast to that, the Bayonetta LE (the one with the book) really was limited.

At retail, the game will only be released as the Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water – Limited Edition bundle

So the retail version in general is limited editions only? Because that's what it sounds like. Guess I should pre-order then.

It really wasn't. People just panicked and pre-ordered several copies and of course there have been scalpers snatching up as many LE's as possible. After launch though, when nobody wanted to pay the inflated prices, many scalpers returned them to the shops they bought it from and the LE was available for months for even less then the MSRP- even online!

I guess those two are games, that wouldn't have gotten a Western release, if the Wii U had any kind of third party support. Now that they are basically forced to release (almost) anything, they try to do it as cheap as possible.

As long as this allows us to get games that would have otherwise stayed in Japan, I hope they continue with this kind of flexible release planning.

It's at times like these I wish there was a specific branch of Nintendo it's fans could reach out to show that they would support a physical copy.

Yes I know 1-10K people saying they will buy one doesn't justify the costs that go into it, I just wish NoA was about more open about this stuff.

Both are likely exceptions to the rule. They're going to bomb so hard it's a miracle we're still getting them.

If the Wii U had sold more, they'd be translated for sure. They just want to bring games as cheap as possible, because they can't do anything else.

Also hoping this comes to NA

Why do they actually call it Project Zero? Fatal Frame is a much better name.

Did this score well? I heard it wasn't that good.

Wikipedia says the original japanese title is 零〜zero〜

So I guess they wanted to stay closer to the original title.

Incidentally, the kanji symbol for zero, 零, is pronounced the same and visually similar to a kanji meaning spirit/ghost 霊

This is one of the few cases whereby I like both game titles. They both work well with the context of the games.

Anyway, day 0 (or day 零) for me, so pre-ordering when it becomes available here in the UK.

To perhaps quell fears. Nintendo of America has already confirmed a physical release of Devil's Third like two weeks ago.

If they can give Devil's Third a physical release I'm sure they can give Fatal Frame V one.

Fun fact: Project Zero 4 for Wii was meant to be called simply "Zero: A Japanese Ghost Story" before it got quietly cancelled in Europe.

I'd like to think so, but I can't bring myself to trust them fully. I just want confirmation already.

NoA better follow suit.

They won't. Asshats. In NA it'll be late, $59.99, eshop only, and no demo. :(

NoA will give it to us digital only, sub only and censored, giving this game a lazy digital only release is something I would never doubt with NoA, they are by far the worst branch of a company I've seen. I'd be ecstatic to be proven wrong but history is not on NA's side.

Kinda wish that retail isn't limited to special edition, it kinda causing me to worry that if I don't get my pre-order in I am not getting the game.

Are the pre-order up yet?

Looks really nice, but I don't want any photo of a ghost in my house lol, specially from a game where you capture ghosts in photos lol

I assume this will be "Limited Edition" as in the "Day One" type packages where the game comes with some extra goodies during the first print run. I assume that since it's a pretty niche game, the print run wouldn't be huge, but I don't think it's going to be a massive PITA to get like some of the other Nintendo shit.

Pre-ordered this bad boy.

Can't wait to find me some ghosts! The limited run doesn't surprise me. Here in Holland the Wii version of Project Zero II was one of those games published by Nintendo that actually got discounts.

I rarely buy LE's but this and Mario Maker are my next two video game purchases.

Do we know if it'll include the Japanese voice overs and all the costumes etc?

We do know so far, that the game will come with English and Japanese dubs; at least in Europe.

You have my attention.
unless this is EU only
It's probably going to EU-only, because NoA. If they do make it available here, it'll probably be another exclusive for their Nintendo World Store. :/

I know I might sound negative, and I apologize for that, but NoA doesn't really inspire much confidence in me.

Also confirmed for Australia.
