Xbox One and Samsung 40in 1080p Smart HDTV for $500 (Best Buy 8/9)

So can I go into a Best Buy tomorrow and order the TV, pick up an Xbox One in store while getting the deal or what?

Sorry but been out of the world for a day and wasn't able to follow the thread very well

Does Microsoft have deals like this in Europe?
MS is gaining ground stateside, but Europe is where the most improvement is needed.

Amazing deal.

This past week I've picked up the XB1 with Kinect for 250€ in Spain, Carrefour was clearing stock and you could get crazy deals on some of its outlets.

Just got home with my bundle! So excited about my girlfriend's birthday present :) she just got a new ps4 but her tv is just a 20 inch off brand from a million years ago. Big upgrade for her. Shhh!

The xbox I may sell to my sister/her boyfriend because she told me they were in the market for a new console and couldnt decide which one. They might be interested at the discounted price I can provide. I already have one and dont need one. Selling it to family would be a lot easier than online, too.

Just finished my barebones TV calibration. It seems perfectly serviceable, especially for the price

Switching to Game mode limits some stuff I don't like (for example, it forces a certain sound preset on you, but it also forces off a lot of post-processing I was going to turn off anyway, which is nice). Will try Rocket League now to see if the lag is a big problem

On the whole though, solid bundle and I'm glad I dove in! Time to install MCC, download some Rare Replay, and maybe check out that EA Access I've been hearing so much about

To the new Xbox One owners remember to drop off your gamertags in the gamertag exchange thread.

Gamertag: Xbox Live Mike

This was a great deal I cant wait to see black friday

Still torn on this, I could probably justify the TV as a gift to a family member but with tax I'm only saving like $200 over MSRP. I'm really not all that interested in upcoming xbox games but I guess it would be decent to have one.

This deal lasts the whole week right?

Placed an order online about 30min. before my local BB opened. There were only 2 MCC bundles and the TVs were still being unloaded. I was the first one there for it and scored.

I really don't need this TV now, haha.

This is the sort of insane deal you'd expect for Black Friday.

How is the overall picture quality? Are you happy with the set? I am not expecting it to rival my Panny Plasma of course, but I am hoping for a decent picture.

Absolutely. Thank you.

Alright, picture quality is definitely decent. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a "true white" out of the contrast options (even maxed out it wasn't white enough. Don't know what I expected with this set). The main thing with the calibration is that setting it to game mode (which you need to do) also turns off a lot of options. Some of them are good (it automatically disables stuff like dynamic contrast and motionflow) but some of them are weird (it locks you into Limited black range, which isn't terrible since you can just set your console to output that but it is baffling). It also locks the sound output to game mode with no way to change it.

Now I'm not saying you should copy my calibration settings, because lord knows I'm not super into this and probably fucked something up, but here's what I came away with (all calibrated in a pitch dark room, btw. That does make a difference):

Contrast: 100
Brightness: 44
Snarpness: 10
Color: 43
Tint: G49/R51
Picture Size: Screen Fit
Color Tone: Warm2

In speaker settings I had to up the audio delay to 80, since I am using the TV speakers for now until I move/get a sound system

The input lag seemed totally fine on my end, no issues whatsoever. However, take that with a grain of salt since I only notice that stuff if it's pretty bad, and on PC I generally play with vsync on all the time, which purist cry adds input lag. Which I'm sure it does, I'm not saying they're wrong, I just don't notice it.

For the price (that is, $250) I am more than satisfied.

Ugh, sadly I don't need a TV. Just an Xbox One. ;(

Guess I will still have to wait till Black Friday to get a good deal on that.

I'm tempted to get in in this deal but would rather sell the TV. I don't trust craigslist, but might use ebay. Never sold a TV on ebay. Anything I should know like extra insurance or a custom box to protect it??

Only way it will let me check out is if i pick a store and when i pick a store it says not available in my area.

It looks like it's sold out online and not available for store pick up.

Will they do a raincheck for this or what?

I'm pretty sure if you go into the store and ask them to deliver it they'll do it from their end and it will work. Some of them will let you take the xbox there and then if it's in stock but have the TV shipped to you.

Cool, I'll try that tomorrow.

Thanks a lot for this, but my color tone warm1 and warm2 seem to be disabled. Any reason for this?

Edit: Never mind, had to change it to Game mode first

Weird, I don't know why it would lock you to Limited range.

What effect does that last line have on sound output, exactly? What other options for sound output are there?

That sucks I was able to put it in the cart and everything, short of buying it. Too rich for this college student.

You can do that but to finish the deal you have to have a store to choose for pickup of the TV and most regions are out so not a lot of people can finish the transaction.

Stolen from slickdeals, I didn't see anyone else post this.

An Open Box Version of the 40" Samsung HDTV can also be purchased for shipping only along with the 500GB Xbox One Halo: The Master Chief Collection Console Bundle. The total for both items should be $457.98 with Free Shipping. Thanks MrFrump

So is the TV any good?
From my gathering, the TV seems to be decent. It's a step above your budget set, which is perfect since the deal is targeting college students with a budget. I did not see any tests or review from rtings.com and display.com. Don't expect great picture quality and low input lag.

It finally sold out online. I had it in the my cart all day. I pulled the trigger on an older Sony w800b for a bit more instead. The newer w800c has worst input lag and Android OS for that TV is apparently buggy.

The limited thing is truly only mildly annoying. The Wii U only outputs in limited, as does the PSTV. The Xbox One and PS4 can both be manually set to limited, and so can a PC. I'm not too bothered by it. When everything is set correctly it doesn't really matter, limited/limited or full/full

The sound thing I haven't played around with since I don't want to change the setting from game mode in case is fucks everything else up. From the manual though, the other sound options are: Standard, Music, Movie, Clear Voice, Amplify, Game, and Stadium. Game isn't able to be selected by the user unless locked in with Game Mode, Stadium isn't able to be selected by the user unless Soccer Mode is turned on (which is a picture mode similar to Game Mode, where it changes a bunch of settings and locks them in, just with different options/values/goals)

I think so. I already use an external for the wii u so I wasn't looking to get another to take up space, but sure I guess

Eh, portable drives are the size of a deck of cards. Stick it behind the system and you'll never even see it.

On the other hand, if you ever want to bring your games over to a friend's house, just shut the system off, pull the drive and plug it into your friend's Xbox One.

I went to best buy to check this deal out but they were out of stock. I ended up walking out with the Splatoon Wii U bundle on sale for $275 plus tax.

Not exactly what I expected to happen today but I'll get the XOne somewhere down the line.

You could have just asked them to make an order for you. :|

Contrast being at 100 cannot be right. I know there are some calibration methods which do not work that great and you can't really tell a difference when increasing or decreasing the contract setting. The contrast is only at about 76 comparatively on my primary TV.

Anyways, thanks so much for your impressions and calibration settings. I am not too concerned about input lag or having to use gaming mode since I will not be using this for gaming, but its nice to hear its tolerable if I did decide to hook up a PS3 to it or something, It pretty much will only be used for Netflix/Amazon Instant when I am in my bedroom.

Looks like I was too slow to jump on this, sold out everywhere in my area :(
Just order it for store pickup...

So I put mine up on eBay for $280 +$30 ship. Does anyone have experience shipping something like this? Since it comes unopened in a box, should I do anything else?

You can still get this deal. Just have them order it for you. They were willing to do this for me, but my parents got it at a different store instead.
