Rise of the Tomb Raider Syria Demo

That shit looks amazing. I can't wait to pick it up on PC. I also feel that her hair looks amazing, I don't see why people are hating.

Wow, the introduction cinematic looks so last gen, + her hair moves like she's in water.

Otherwise, the game seems okay.

Her hair... what's going on there? Some animations and that intro sequence could have been much better.

Still, this game looks good.

What a looker of a game. And this is a proprietary game engine.

Really amazing work by Crystal Dynamics. It might not beat out Uncharted 4 on a technical level, but the lighting, material shaders and cinematography impress me more than anything I've seen on the current-gen besides Battlefront.

Lara must be very heavy if she is constantly causing huge rocks and giant walls to collapse by just walking or holding onto them

Doesn't look that great considering it's supposed to be one of those super-cinematic games

Hopefully the PC version offers more than just unlocked framerate and resolution

Honestly thought I'm quite conflicted whether to get this for my XB1 or wait until next year on my PS4...I'll be ass deep in Fallout 4 and Halo 5 in November, leaving minimal time for it. At the same time I already own TR: DE on my PS4 and I'd have to buy TR: DE on my XB1 again because my semi-OCD compels me to have continuity like that, and the PS4 version looks and performs better overall.

At the same token, I'm really excited for it and want to play it now. Decisions...

Hahaha, she *literally* falls off a cliff and is fine within seconds.

Looks fun though. Fallout 4 still takes my money in November, but, this looks better with each video.

Camilla Luddington is still 100% terrible, but I like that Lara actually appears to be a competent adventurer this time around rather than a little lost lamb.

Gameplay could be straight out of a Quantic Dream game, though. Walk down the only available path and watch a cutscene. This kind of thing isn't what people were looking for when they complained that the 2013 game didn't have enough tomb raiding; they've just set a linear action setpiece in a tomb.

Those floating wooden pallet puzzles aren't going to do much to dispel the Last of Us comparisons :P

Cut-scene visuals and presentation look underwhelming, but the actual game looks nice. Really like slow paced moments like this in games.

I like how she holds her ribs in pain while walking and then goes mountain climbing like it's nothing.

I hate this.

I hated it in the last Tomb Raider, I hated it in Uncharted when Drake was shot and he's suddenly able to climb like it's no big deal.

Shit's annoying. If the character is injured, at least create the level with that in mind.

My fear is that this is their response to the "we want more tombs" criticism of the first game. "See? We applied the linear sequence design of the first game to a tomb setting! Everyone's happy!"

Man people sure are picky these days. It looks great to me, especially considering it's running on Xbox One and it's a crossgen, multiplatform game.

We all know at this point that it's TR2013 all over again.

Looks nice, some fun to be had but hope there is more to it.

Her over acting is so grating and the initial fall sounds and others seem ripped out of the last game.

She has slow mo because I'm worth it hair. It really looks like slow motion.

Player falls off cliff.
Breaks several ribs and ruptures lung.
Passes out due to pain.
Bleeds Internally.
You Are Dead.

Some of the people moaning about realism would make some sucky action games or amazing Rogue-like Games.

60 fps PC version coming early next year. Will be a nice palate cleanser game after fo3 etc and nothing else big coming in that release window.

Well, that made the wait even harder. I want to play this game. I DO wish they'd not use narrative in dialogue though but that's a small price to pay for what looks like an excellent game.

I can't walk. Let me climb up this mountain.

Besides that, not impressed with this demo at all. Nothing but walking, moaning, and QTEs. Doesn't look exciting at all.

agreed. one of the reasons i stopped playing the first one about 2 hours in. story didn't grab me and a lot of walking in small spaces that creeps me out.

does look very pretty though

I wonder if its too much to complain about the voice acting in every thread. I'm gonna do it anyway. Hot damn is Lara's VA bad. Why is she out of breath while riding in a car? She's not even doing anything. Reminds me of Mary Elizabeth Winstead in The Thing 2011 where she did that thing where she always gasps for air and breathes heavily to I guess add tension to the scene even though the situation doesn't call for her character to be out of breath. She was so bad in that movie.

Really enjoyed the previous game; really looking to this one. However...

Shut up, Lara. For God's sake, stop commenting on freaking EVERYTHING.

The truck crash looks bad. It's such basic "ball bounce" stuff from an animation perspective, yet when the truck goes flying into the air, it looks like it's getting yanked to the ground instead of falling naturally due to gravity. Maybe it's a nitpick, but there was a lot of this in the previous game as well. Drives me crazy.

You have to admire the design talent that manage to inject tunnel-ed level design into a desert setting. The first few minutes were garbage(and I'm very disappointed Lara wasn't wearing a scarf in the opening, I really wanted to see her rocking one the moment I saw the setting ;p ). That last third of the gameplay video though, looks way more interesting than anything in TR2013, I'm sold.

They really should have her talking into a recording device when she isn't paired up with someone. That would be a neat way of getting around the fact that she talks to herself incessantly. They have her listening to a recording then saying to herself "We made it dad". Why are you talking, Lara?

Or, ideally, they could just have her talk a lot less. The performance isn't good.

Well, that's a little different.

It's so ridiculous when they use the player getting injured as a plot device to create some drama in a cut scene and then do away with any of the impact of that injury as soon as you regain control of the character.

Just don't do it.

What's wrong with that? Uncharted 4 is more of the same too, and people sure are excited over it.

I think that these set pieces and constant near death experiences really lose their impact if they occur every 30 seconds. Plus her hair looks like she's constantly underwater.

CD meetings must have went like "uncharted amplified TO THE EXTREME!".

I know that I am in the minority, but this was one of my biggest problems with the first one... it was just too much falling and being stabbed, shot, raped and, generally, constantly sustaining what would be life threatening injuries in real life. For my tastes, Tomb Raider was just too over the top and it was a slog for me to finish. I hope the pacing is better in this one.

I see the quality of writing and characterization is gonna be straight up garbage again. Also I can't stop laughing at her underwater hair. Gameplay looks to be more cinematic uncharted style ripoff but I'm ok with that.

Anxiety, adrenaline?

Has it been posted uncompressed anywhere yet? Want to make some gifs :P
Seconding this. I can barely make out the cuts on her back and shoulders. Which, unlike a lot of games actually look like deep cuts in the skin instead of a texture. Glorious facial animation tho.

I think that they are making a mistake making these games more like Uncharted. They are going to lose that battle, and they know it given their choice of release platforms and timing. Tomb raider is no longer tomb raider. Might as well call it something else now.
