I think it was James Chen said that the One Frame Link guys looked over the matches, and that Infiltration did so much damage to Gamerbee's Elena that he could have won loser finals and the entirety of Grand Finals with it.

Obviously Infiltration didn't adapt fast enough and it fed into Elena's healing loop, but man, that is a flaw in the system.

Link?

loli androids running around

Alisa is not a loli though. That term is overused.

I can understand if you like something niche and as a result you get a smaller base to play with, or you get hitched to questionable company games (SNK and Arc Sys) you get fucked but that's the hand you have chosen. Only thing I can say about that is if you can build your scene so you don't need to have the overall FGC to boost up your game. That strategy is stupid
MKX ahem
. You need to have a scene outside of the mainstream FGC that can then join the overall one like smash like Tekken kinda did. I'm sure KOF would too but you have to rely on SNK who is less realiable than Sonic team.

Another thing I'd love to discuss is people who want games to have tightass links and exectution and all these mind games, then they get pissed when a lower level player plays 'stupid', you wanted all these systems you make your bed you sleep in it!

Yata runs very well for me online. The issue there is boredom, the only challenge is from one specific player named NickCool so matches feel like a chore now.

Show up? Maybe.

Have them know what they're doing and actually make the game worth all that effort? Nope.

I enjoy the social aspects but I really just want to play good players.

Kinda interesting that you say this. I remember watching all of your KOF13 videos on Youtube which taught me a lot about fundamentals. I still revisit some of those videos from time to time because of how good they were. I have gained a lot of respect for you for putting so much effort for the KOF and because of your passionate commentary on streams.

Shortly after the steam edition came out, I ran into you a lot on online. I knew I stood no chance and after I lost a game or two I remember you would troll me by spamming Leona's low B and low profiling everything I do for the entire match.... or spamming whatever other normal or special nonstop, this was proceeded by you immediately leaving the lobby. You did this on several different occasions, and I even checked your stream once after you did it and sure enough I was on it. Needless to say I avoided your lobby like the plague after that.

This behavior was a stark contrast to what I would have expected from the person making those videos. I am not posting this because of salt or whatever. I get it.. playing someone below your level can be tedious after a while. Honestly, I never really cared all that much. But reading your posts here about the communities being small and grinding not being worth it.. I just had to speak out. Stuff like this causes the already small community to shrink even more.

At any rate, the KOF tournament scene is far from dead. California, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and Chicago all have strong players and the tourneys still have a pretty good turnout. I say it's worth showing up just to support the scene and try to compete at the high levels. The game is far from dead, and even online there are pretty good players that will give you a run for your money. Laziefreddie, Ziwa, El Matador, Airlancer.. and so on.

It's weird how infiltration was playing gamerbee in loser's finals. He actually sent gamerbee to losers with chun vs. Elena. He was way more aggressive, did things like Hazanshu in and didn't stray far so Elena couldn't get a big heal off or she would get punished. Then when it was loser's final he played the complete opposite. Much more passive and threw a lot of fireballs that were absorbed, allowing much more ultra meter to be built than usual. I'm on my phone but if you look at the match between them right before top 8 you can see such a difference. I think infiltration played it way too safe. Maybe in his head, since he was in losers he shouldn't be that aggressive or gave gamerbee too much respect.

That earlier match is how Infil should've played Elena, all the time. He couldn't have picked a worse strategy for the Elena matchup.

Man how the hell did anyone get into Hearthstone. This game is boring as hell, god damn.

It's really 1 dimensional imo

Maybe it's just me but it felt like every strategy is too similar

Fartstone is the combination of them hooking addivictive personalities added with free to play and good marketing and their warcraft IP. It's a perfect storm. They really did well with their base. Me I will never play that. I'd rather get top 100 at evo than play that or a moba.

Actually 1 hour from now.
2 hours to showtime with @sethkillian joins @ElLoneStarGamer, @DasDanke talking about Rising Thunder and more.

Could go to single elimination, like the Japanese (whose tournament scene is fine) if you *really* want to save time

I guess we can start doing Bo1 so we can have even more sets on stream and get way more upsets too.
This road honestly is very bad I think

Topic du jour: bo3/5

See @evo2k, almost every game is bo3.

It's still considered the most grueling competition in the world for all games.

https://twitter.com/OneFrameLink/status/630410118421716992

Some context: Top Smash players (Leffen, Armada, etc) have been making complaints that Best of 3's for top 8 should be considered less than best of 5's at other tournaments. People from other communities are that almost all games gets 2/3 and why should Smash be special.

this would just give me more time to sleep on finals day

I should just turn the game off when I get to that point. I try to see if playing differently elicits a response, but usually it doesn't and I just get pissed.

There are good players in Arizona? Please tell me who they are.

If I lived somewhere with KOF players I'd be playing it. Regarding online, yes those players provide good matches, but that's 4 players. If my only possible positive experience is contingent on 4 specific human beings playing the game online with me, that really makes me bitter about the 1000+ hours I've put in.

Ultimately I have to change my standards or move.

He knew he could choose a harder counter with Juri but was worried about the Adon matchup. Shoulda just went with Juri from the start tbh. But yea, he did switch up his game a bit from Winners to Loser's finals.

This is what I've been saying since I was witnessing it unfold on stream. Infiltration let Gamerbee play the absolute ideal Elena match, which makes zero sense versus what he did(and should have) been doing before when he sent Gamerbee to losers. I'm still trying to figure out why he played the matchup like that in losers finals. I've never seen a Chun try and zone an Elena until that match.

I mean.. Chun can zone her out. But you gotta pay attention to how much Ultra meter you're giving Elena.

But why would you even want to as Chun when you can beat her with your normals? Infil was doing that the entire time when he sent Gamerbee to losers and it's like the dude forgot how he won when they faced off again.

Me...more so on SF4. I like Project M a lot, but honestly I never play too serious. I just love me some Ganondorf chokensteins and grab combos. I'll never give a damn about all the tech and learning it. I only do that for ASW and 2.5d tag fighters like KoF, TvC, Marvel etc etc.

I should just turn the game off when I get to that point.

The game was already a couple of years old when it came stateside and everybody knows that no one wants to play an old game. It was obvious from the get go that KOF13 wasn't gonna blow up anywhere near SF4 levels. I honestly feel it fared a lot better than I'd have expected.

As far as online goes, just because I listed four doesn't mean that those are the only high level players on there. Many may not show up in tourneys but I can easily list another 10 players just from my steam friends list that can easily place top 8 in a major tourney with a little bit of luck... and I am not even that involved with the online communities.

It's obviously nothing like SF4 where you can get competent matches all day against randoms. You may not get a lot of top level players join you sitting in a lobby all day, but if you keep a healthy friends list you can get good sets in against players on any day.

when people ask you to play smash or sf4?

Never. While I don't like SF4, I try to never scoff whenever somebody asks me to play a game that I don't like.

It's tantamount to folks saying shit like "lol [insert non capcom fighter here]" whenever folks in their scene ask them to play something that's not SF4. I just say "It's not my game" and leave it at that.

Almost. You know if they switched Marvel back to 2 out of 3 you wouldn't get so much discussion about changing the format. There would be no exceptions.

I would hardly call it "differently." You were just trolling. I am not really sure what kind of response you were expecting from that. If you are truly getting pissed at other people being bad, all it takes is 10 seconds to alt-tab, send a friend request and a message explaining what they are doing wrong. I do it all the time and it's not that hard. The sad thing is that it wasn't even that free.

I am not salty at all, I promise! :-D

Anyway, I'm gonna be in Japan for a week and half starting Wednesday. Time to go play with some JPs and maybe I can drag Kubo out and learn Doge tech from him in Persona, lol

Nice, I was actually planning on being there or Korea this week too, but RL shit came up, so I'm probably not gonna go till next month...ish.

I love it when people take jokes by developers seriously.

Jokes on Harada, since Chloe isn't really used much in Japan, apparently.

Last we heard, she was in the lower half on the usage charts. The only new character lower than Chloe was Josie, who had JUST released at the end of that month.

A character specifically design for the Japanese market...not really that popular in the Japanese market.

That IS a funny joke.

She's pretty low on the tier lists from what I heard.

The problem with Lucky Chloe isn't that she's an idol. It's that she belongs in Arcana Heart.

Namco's character design peaked with Tekken 5. Been downhill ever since. That said, I've never liked the robots, kangaroos, or loli androids running around- I prefer my 3D fighters to be human beings.

I'd even take DOA char design over Tekken char design these days.
Why can't Namco buy Bloody Roar. That would be a crossover worth talking about.

Between this and your love for Rogues in DFO, I knew you had good taste.

Acting like a troll in a match and saying it's "playing differently to elicit a response" is retarded. Just say you were trying to fuck with someone. It's okay.

I would hardly call it "differently." You were just trolling. I am not really sure what kind of response you were expecting from that.

Any of the right ones, essentially.

Sometimes I do [hop CD]xN, other times [crB, slight run]xN, or even [run up to footsie range, roll backwards]xN. The goal is to see if the other player has practiced the simple counters to these. Even if they know of them, in KOF that matters less than the mental ability to call shots. You can't counter these things by waiting and reacting.

I just turn the "match" into drills. Is it troll-ish? I suppose.

Downloaded the demo for the arcsys 3DS DBZ game and it's pretty interesting. I'm intrigued on how it approached designing a fighting game for a handheld console and its limited control scheme. The game far more in common with Jump All Stars than arcsys arcade fighters and I really like that game even despite it being not balanced and polished well in several aspects. It even borrows the team mechanic from JAS which basically let you have a team to up to three fighters I think and assists as long as you don't go over the an assigned value which is pretty dope. So all the characters and assists have a specific value attached to them and as you would guess certain characters have higher values which makes it harder to build teams for them with other characters with high values. I hope in the full release you can have preload teams like you could in JaS. unlike JAS there's airdashes, high lows, and cross-ups just like in a proper fighting game. The game also addresses a major issue I had with JAS and that was the ability to call assists while in hitstun. Anyways the game seems pretty fun and I like forward to it being broke wide open.

She's pretty low on the tier lists from what I heard.

From what I've read, other lower-tier characters like Asuka and Lili still get higher usage than Chloe simply due to the fact that they're more just more popular. In other words, being low-tier doesn't necessarily stop people from using you if they actually LIKE you...

"Drills"

This is getting pretty funny. Look man I didn't post that looking for any explanations. If you don't want to own it that's fine.

Nah , he's just calling him out. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah maybe a little bit of that.
