After the controversy over the F2P Rollercoaster Tycoon 4 (Link) and the new PC game, we finally have a premium RC on mobile.

Frontier has ported Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 to iOS.

You can get it now for 4.99$:

With a new mobile-friendly UI, the creativity, depth and sophistication of the classic PC game is all here - with NO in-app purchases.

It's been out for a few minutes so nobody (apart from Frontier) knows for now. But it would be really cool!

I won't be able to check it out until later this evening, but I am all over this.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is my favorite game of all time. I have deep fondness for 3 as well.

Haha, I like how "no in-app purchases" is actually there as a selling point. The message might finally be getting through.

Anyone taken the plunge and found out how well it controls on an iPhone yet?

RCT2 or bust. I prefer the 2D sprites etc. Plus, the first and second entries have got to be more viable on iOS, wouldn't you think?

No in-app purchases or anything. Is this it? Is this actually it?

Sounds way too good to be true.

I tried to buy it but it's incompatible with my lowly 5c.
Dragon quest VIII and KOTOR run great on it but I guess this game is too much for it :(

"NO in-app purchases"

Frontier, I fucking love you. Even more so if this turns out to be a well optimized port.
Please come to Android.

They put Transport Tycoon on mobile already, so it is definitely possible.

Why hasnt the original game been ported to mobile yet? The isometric style fits phones. Heck it would probably run better than the crappy mobile game!

WAIT WHAT?!

Frontier has ported the game they made as a studio, and the publisher zombiatari, who is the one that has the rights, has nothing to do with it becuase it app is actually distributed by frontier?

what madness is this? has Frontier got the right of RCT or something?

That would be the best thing ever, but I suppose it will be some type of agreement with zombiatari.
Still, strange they are the publishers of this.

EDIT
It doesnt works on 4s, buggers :(

While I think RCT2 would be a much better game for phones, RCT3 is a magnificent game. They thing is that the port is the vanilla without mods nor the 2 expansions, and its the whole pack what elevates RCT3.

Would love to compare the revenue of this game against the shit-tier RCT Mobile FTP extravaganza that came out.

Whatever, just another shallow, angry-birds-like, F2P garbage mobile game. That's all they offer.

Wait a second...

;)

I'll be picking this up to see how it runs. Looks awesome.

I wonder if my 35 coaster megapark I've been working on for like 8 years now will run on this. On my i7 3770k and 290 I get about 18 FPS.

It's for the best I think. Can't imagine playing it on anything other than an iPad to be honest.
Oh and I'm sure that Atari is cashing in on every opportunity they get so they must have approved of this port.

Yep, just found. They made a partnership in 2013! about frontier having the rights to release RCT3 on mobile devices. Seems we are seeing the fruits of it now.

This game's 11 years old. The newer iPhones are probably more powerful than a mid-range PC was back then.

The game was also super taxing on those PCs, and taxing on new PCs that came. Now it works good on computers (although it can still go below 60 AND 30 at times), but not that many years ago of that. It doesnt mean shit iphones can run games well that worked well on old computers or can move UE4, the game needs a really good CPU and card to run on the biggest and most detailed parks even now.
They probably have made the park size smaller, and woked texture and details down in the port.
Maybe theres a limit on number of rides you can have (RCT3ds, that was not made by them, but still, had a number of limited objects and rides that the park could have, and let me tell you the limit was laughble).

Thats why its limited to the newest iphones and ipads to work.

Wow, this is impressive. I'm running it on my iPad Air 2 and so far it runs and looks great.

How is the scenery building done?
I mean like how are the controls while building houses with rooms, and roofs, etc...
You had to put your mouse and press shift to make taller walls, so it would be intersting to see how they made it work here (theres a tall building in one of the shots so I suppose that type of scenery is still in the game).

bought instantly btw..

with NO in-app purchases.
even if you guys love the game on pc, rebuy it please so more devs understand that people like premium games with NO in app douchebaggery :)

The iOS platform 'exclusivity' is maddening. Outright refusing to support Android is baffling at this point.

ios was always better for gaming anyway.
less models easier to make it run better
it is as simple as that.

for emulating? that's an whole other story :P

At this point, that argument is nonsense. From my understanding, Android will scale whatever the crap you throw at it, assuming you target Android 4.1 and upwards. Plus there's very few SoC's at this point: Tegra, Snapdragon and Exynos.

And stories like that:

Wayward Souls on Android was pirated by 89% of players.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/08...torrent-sites/

Pirated downloads isn't the same as a lost sale. Arguably, those people would have never purchased the game to begin with.

That's like saying "we shouldn't put our game on Steam because it'll be pirated on PC."
