Marvels Secret Wars by Hickman & Ribic |OT| Everything ends... Everything begins

Peter might have ended up in Spiderverse. I think the most recent issue ends with Spider-Gwen running into Peter who was previously stated as missing. (it might not be the one from the raft though)

I was hoping SW #5 would be about 10 pages longer. Also, Hickman trolled the fuck out of me for a page when it looked like
Dr. Strange was still alive in that vault. I was really disappointed when he turned into Molecule Man.

I can't see how they wrap this up in 3 issues. The main event is too goddamn short. I haven't been reading any of the side series, so I can't speak for their contributions to the over-arcing plot.

They have contributed very little to date, but that might change in the final month or two of this event.

I sort of wish that Hickman had a companion book or two to the main series like he did with Infinity, but I think that this will read better as is once it is collected.

Considering what Hickman got done in the first issue alone, not really concerned with length at this point lol

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that.

Some more crossovers this week.

Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos, and Secret Wars Battleworld with Future Imperfect.
This really throws the chronology around a bit.

Star Lord and Kitty Pryde with Age of Apocalypse.
I honestly can't remember too much about that latter story, but I think this week spoiled a plot point of that.

Yeah I was already concerned about how they were going to wrap this up in the amount of issues that are left, and here with have issue 5 that only seems to be killing time until the next issue.

The side issues clarify things about how battleworld functions and tells some interesting side stories but they dont seem to advance the main plot very much. They just show whats going on elsewhere.

I'm starting to think that the series won't have any sort of big finale. Just something small where Doom himself decides against Battleworld and hits the big red plot button to transition into the post-SW world.
Maybe he rounds up all the strays and they just convince him to end it. Maybe due to a pending threat from the cabal who have got their hands on something and he doesnt have much choice but to give it up.

We get 40 pages next issue and 56 in issue #7, I wouldn't worry. This was a breather issue.
Most of it was.

Wait oh crap, really? That's thick. Okay maybe there's time...

Secret Wars #05

"Did you bring me something to eat?"

So the theory many had about the massive Molecule Man bomb was spot on; I was kinda expecting him to be alive. But it's weird.

As for the rest, I actually lolled seeing Black Panther and Namor being stuck with each other again. Poor T'Challa, Strange made a total dick move. Those two will work together, but I imagine both of them are ready for the kill.

As for the others... OH SHIT. Thor was pretty obvious at the burial, but the real question is where the Reeds, Maximus and Spider-Man are. Terrax could wreck some shit as well.

But man that Thanos grin... we all know (because of Siege) that he'll wreck the SHIELD, but it will be glorious. So many undead and Ultron doubles wrecking shit. Can't wait. Good thing Thanos will have another shot at the zombies; in Marvel Zombies 2 he was like killed on the second page by a very pouty Hulk lol.

Here's hoping Hickman will give this series a fantastic finish. If it does, it will be one of the best events I've read.

This is such a great story that I hope will hold up re-reading years from now.
It's not bogged down by the tie-ins and I feel like many of them actually supplement and add to the main book.
Unlike so many other event tie-ins where the purpose is "we spent 4 issues getting into the secret base to turn off the alarm so that in the main book the big fight could happen next month," Secret Wars tie ins are able to do their own thing and add to the tapestry.

This week I really liked:

Battleworld 4 - that first chapter had some amazing kooky art

Master of Kung Fu - wish the series went on longer! Felt a little truncated at the epilogue

Ghost Racers - All of the racers have such unique designs. I always resented Blaze for stealing Ketch's look when he came back as the main Ghost Rider. I'd like him to stick with the Stuntman look when we go back to business as usual

Secret Wars 2099 - seems like it's not well received on the boards here, but I'm enjoying it

Yeah, I think the events of Master of Kung Fu were handled well enough, but it definitely needed a proper epilogue.
I fear this might be the case for a lot of books, which have too much going on.

So I recently read through Hickman's Avengers run and now I've reached Secret Wars 1. I know how the tie ins work, but are there any recommended reads? The last event this wide reaching that I can think of was Civil War and my library bought almost all the TBP and I had a blast reading them.

This piece on kotaku sums up the must/should/could/won't reads fairly well.

No it doesn't. ;p

Ok fair point, perhaps just the must/won't whereas the should/could are up for argument? I don't suppose Totilo is the ultimate arbiter of taste but for the most part it gives someone a fair guide to go from (i.e. avoid Ultimate End). Personally I'd have put Master of Kung Fu higher up the list and Red Skull above Marvel Zombies.

Let's just agree that there is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to the tie-ins, which is pretty remarkable.

Yeah it's ridiculous how many of the tie ins are in the "good to great" camp, even when they have little bearing on the event itself. Embarrassment of riches is a good way to describe it.

We're at the point where enough of the tie-ins have kicked off and either stumbled or hit their stride that we could do with a more thorough guide on what is worth reading. I get the awful feeling I'm missing something important like where the fuck are
Proxima/Coruvs/Terrax, I guess they're just gonna turn up in Marville and kill everyone?

Hmm.... then a GAF Secret Wars Tie-in recommendation list then?

We have the tools to make this possible.

Universe was so adorable this week.
This is the 1st issue of A-Force I really got into. Not that the others were bad, they just never stuck with me.

Damn Master of Kung Fu really needed to be a longer series. It really felt like a manga with how it described the powers in the last battle.

Strange fucked up, how you gonna have
Thanos
of all people end up at The SHIELD, should've just let Doom clean house.

What was that last attack the emperor was planning to use on Shang Chi? I want to say it was based on the Grim Reaper, maybe baron von strucker but I'm not sure?

Master of Kung Fu was fucking stellar. It's a shame it wasn't an issue longer or at least an ongoing. It's in my top 10 right now.

Yeah it was amazing. I wish it was an ongoing as well.
