Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Have they confirmed if the Guitar will be cross compatible with GH Live? I might get Live if the soundtrack improves.

GHLive's guitar status is "once we get one in the studio, we'll see if we can make it work"

there's enough buttons, but it might get a bit painful..

I like the franchise a lot but at this point I dont' know why anyone would pre-order anything just for some songs. It seems like they are just making some incredibly strange decisions and I'll wait to see how the game gets received before I buy it at all.

Especially those expensive bundle sets. I'm not buying anything until they come clean with everything that's not in the game, or supported.

So why can't the Rock Band DLC be cross platform?

Ubisoft acknowledges progress in its games via Uplay points... whenever you're logged into Uplay playing a Ubisoft game, certain objectives create points into your Uplay account. Those points are accessible from the Uplay shop regardless of the platform you're on. I've earned Uplay points on an Xbox 360 and redeemed them on a PS3 game.

Why can't Harmonix do this with RB4? You sync your DLC with Harmonix servers on RB1/2/3 on PS3/360, then redeem those songs via RB4 on any platform.

WHY!?

Why can't Harmonix do this with RB4?
Because it's completely different?

There's a world of different between platform-agnostic points and platform-specific DLC. Ubi manages their own point system; they don't manage the Xbox/PS stores. What's the incentive for Microsoft to use their resources to supply DLC that users bought on a Sony platform or vice versa?

If Harmonix were able to support cross-platform DLC, they would.

The same reason why you can't go from Xbox to PS and expect your digital purchase of Destiny DLC or Batman digital copy to go with you. You did not buy it from that store. It's out of HMX's hands.

Those Ubisoft points entitle users to DLC content, regardless of where they're earned. The only difference would be if all of those Uplay unlocks are already on disc, and no downloading is involved. If users do have to download, then it's the same.

Furthermore, I know I'd pay another few bucks to regain the licenses of my RB1, 2, and 3 songs like I had to with RB1 and 2. If there was another one-time-fee to import DLC-only tracks registered to a Harmonix account, I'd pay for that, too.

That does not exist and, as stated previously, the info they would need is kept under lock and key by MS and Sony. HMX does not know what you bought and MS and Sony won't tell each other because they want you on their platforms.

Nothing like a Rock Band thread to bring out the people who believe it's all just flipping a switch. "They should just..." is thrown in front of a Herculean task like that should make it do able. Logic thrown away for the reason of "because I want it."

Because those are generic points that unlock content on the disc, not actual store purchases.

Despite being used to unlock on-disc content, those generic points are accessible cross-platform and cross-generation. If performing certain actions can on an array of games across an array of consoles on two different console generations can be tracked and user-identified, then why can't a user's DLC library be tracked and identified across the same? R* keeps similar information on its own servers, too.

That does not exist and, as stated previously, the info they would need is kept under lock and key by MS and Sony. HMX does not know what you bought and MS and Sony won't tell each other because they want you on their platforms.
Users' content and actions can be turned into tabulated data for publishers/developers records. That's not information "locked away by MS or Sony". Just look at R* and Ubisoft.

I would pay a licensing fee to download that content again, just like I paid a licensing fee to download the songs I already owned on-disc when I uploaded them to the next iteration of RB.

Logic thrown away for the reason of "because I want it."

Because their sales are dependent on it. This is an industry that is based entirely on catering to what people want.

EA can track that i've bought one game at Walmart and another at Target because they asked me to register their game and say where I bought it from.

At no point can I go to Target and tell them to give me a replacement for the CD I bought at Walmart.

I wasn't proposing a free download. I'm talking about paying a licensing fee to download content already purchased from another store...

Which is exactly what happens when you buy a RB2 disc from Target (or used from anywhere/anyone) and pay MS/Sony a few bucks to download those songs into RB3.

They will have it so you can pay the licensing fee if you want. It's just going to cost you about 2-3$ per song.

So buy the tracks again. What you want isn't possible. You bought licenses specific to a brand. Microsoft binds those purchases to your account and are not transferable. Bringing purchases forward and using on a new generation is at the mercy of the developer/publisher of the game if Microsoft is allowing access to that content (which they are if backwards compatibility is anything to go by).

...but, again, you're talking about something platform-agnostic that's either on-disc or stored on Ubi's/Warner's/R*'s servers vs. platform-specific DLC. It's not the same thing.

I know it's frustrating, and I'm sure that on the outside, this seems like an easy thing to address. If it were easy, Harmonix would've done it. Even if it were difficult-but-possible, Harmonix would still probably have done it. They can't.

So buy the tracks again. What you want isn't possible.

Oooorrrr they introduce a sub model just for folks like him. Just like I said earlier a sub model on the side from the standard pay for all your DLC would have been fantastic. I would love to buy RB4 on my PS4 but I don't want to lose my songs. If they introduced a sub model I could say fuck it and buy the PS4 version

I'm sure Sony and MS are the ones stopping Harmonix from doing this.

Sony could gain so much good will by allowing a one-time fee to allow users to download their 360's Rock Band DLC library at a notably reduced price. Those users would then be invested in Sony and more likely to purchase more DLC.

It's a dumb situation that's only being prevented by greed, and that greed is only getting in the way of customer satisfaction and further sales. Really dumb situation.

Welcome to business.

Of COURSE RBN songs will work.

The "30 Free" songs they're including for pre-ordering includes about 8 songs from the RBN.

Those songs are from HMX bands. HMX doesn't have to worry about negotiating bringing those particular songs to the new systems because those songs and charts were by members of HMX anyway.

Yup, at least not out of the box at launch. It's possible someone will come up with a solution or something will happen post-launch. I'm not holding my breath.

I really hate to be "that guy" but this is a deal breaker for me. I'm an amateur drummer in real life, and I play Rock Band as a drumming game primarily (if I'm playing solo).

I can't go back to a stock drum kit (don't even own one). It's not even worth me reading anything else about the game to get hyped. I'll stick to Rock Band 3 and upgrade when the IONs are supported. I want Rock Band 4 to be a success but it just makes zero sense for me to buy it without that support.

I don't mean this to be a complaining post, just want to voice my disappointment.

Seriously, it's cool.

Be sure to contact ION and request they add support for the drum rocker via their website.

http://www.ionaudio.com/support/customer-care/us

I sent them a note asking for support even though I've never used an ION kit

I see we have gotten our daily complaint post(s) about why Harmonix won't "support" cross platform DLC working. If any of these guys would search the thread they could see that everything they are saying has already been discussed ad nauseum. Harmonix is self publishing RB4 (aka less money, resources) and is in business to make money to stay afloat and are already allowing us to carry over so much stuff (instruments, DLC, etc.) that it's amazing people want more, more, more. The only things I think are legitimate gripes are no ION support, and no online play.

I understand completely. I'm "that gal" in much the same way. I only play keys and a Roland MIDI kit in RB3 so there's nothing in RB4 for me but vocals, which is definitely not enough. My dream version of RB4 replaced the RB3 pro guitar / bass with Rocksmith style input, but instead they ripped out everything I cared about. Sigh.

I am way behind the loop on this, but my wife asked me to find out...

Can retail Rockband 1-3 discs have their set-lists transferred over to the new game? If we only owned RB1, is it worth hunting down RB2 and RB3 discs?

Rock Band 1, yes, for a small price. Run to the Hills, Enter Sandman, and Paranoid don't export, although you can buy the original version of the former as DLC.

Rock Band 2, I believe it's no longer available. I think the songs from Harmonix bands can be downloaded in a free pack, however.

Rock Band 3, they appear to working on an export, but we likely won't have any updates on it for a while.

Here's a summary.

So, do I even need to bother, or have any relevant songs also found their way to the DLC store? I wouldn't mind cherry-picking my handfuls of favorites.

Makes me wonder if HMX could send an e-mail out to past artists/charters who've contributed to RBN in the past and gauge how many licenses could be renewed for RBN songs for both platforms if they do decide to roll them back out sometime in the future.

Have to admit though, at this rate RB3 will still be getting regular play.

From Rock Band 2, I'm afraid only Spoonman, Give It Away, and Livin' on a Prayer can be bought from the DLC store.

I hope that Harmonix can someone get the expired exports (Rock Band 2 and Lego Rock Band) working again somehow, but I'm not counting on it.

If you contact EA you might get a working RB2 export code. The time to call is now, though , don't wait. And it's not consistent if they can find a working code (people have gotten a code that gave them the Metal Track Pack instead..)

we seriously need career news here soon..........I'm very tempted to moving the money over to guitar hero live (I'm going to buy it anyways but $99 and then get $150 back for other games) .

Everyone keeps saying well that feature.............it can be added in later..........thats a HUGE problem. MadCatz is banking on this....if they bomb out so does RB4 straight with it. No publisher hurts the game even more. Sales on this are going to be hugely front loaded especially with a full band set being $80 more than what they were when RB1 and RB2 launched. Every damn game that has ever game out could have had the same excuse by a fan. Look how many folks are waiting for Ion or online news before even attempting to look at the game. Those are up front sales lost due to simple driver support and even a basic online quick play feature that could be handled via P2P. Hell the X-plorer the best guitar due to being wired as far as I remember isn't supported either.

"well it can be added in later" it doesn't mean shit if the content up front is jacked and not compelling to begin with. There is such little news on this game that it saddens me that we have more info on FFXV then we do on a game that's 2 months away.

I want the game to succeed but its really been worrying knowing that this is the last chance they possibly have at the genre like this and MadCatz last call.....you don't hold information when trying to save a certain business model/style.......especially being only 2 months out!

I kind of agree that it's hard to be hyped, for several reasons. For one, the price of the (almost) complete set is literally the same as the console. That wouldn't be a problem if I knew Rock Band 4 would give me as much enjoyment as Rock Band 3. But I don't.

I don't know what songs to expect. Probably, if the game gets its act together, we'll get a mix of old and new rock stuff. The thing is, I didn't hop onboard until The Beatles and what really made me enjoy RB3 was all the music that was partly influenced by the existence of the keyboard. Like, I doubt we'd get as much Billy Joel and Queen is there hadn't been a keyboard to take advantage of the variety in their songs. Now instead, I doubt there will be much of the piano rock I like, and if there is, I'll be annoyed that it will won't be playable on keyboard anyway.

I also don't know if _all_ my DLC will work, and if it will work from day one or be added haphazardly like the (frankly poorly managed) Singstar library. I don't have many RBN songs so that's not an issue. I do know that Bohemian Rhapsody won't be available and that _is_ the very top song that my group always wants to play. I don't want to spend $300 on RB4 only to have people ask me to put RB3 back in.

Finally, I don't know if my old instruments will work. The drums are dying either way and I'll be glad to replace them, but, especially since distribution might be sketchy, I'm hoping to use the PS3 Guitar Hero 4 guitar as a bass and maybe the Singstar mics as harmony mics. Will this even work?

if the guitar is wireless..........it should(with the hub that they are going to sell), all USB mics should work on the PS4 no problem just because of the system design in itself for recognizing usb inputs.

It's weird too because we now have the digital version of the game to pre-order......but where is the pre-order for the hub for old instruments?

ALSO

As a bonus, PlayStation®Plus members who pre-order the game will receive 10 additional songs to play in Rock Band 4 that are only available for free at launch through this PlayStation-exclusive offer. Additionally, PlayStation®Plus members who pre-order the game will immediately be able to download an exclusive PlayStation®4 theme.

---
Bonus songs include:

All That Remains – “Divide”
Blitz Kids – “Run For Cover”
Bring Me The Horizon – “Throne”
Dead Sara – “Mona Lisa”
Duran Duran – “The Reflex”
Janis Joplin – “Move Over”
Of Mice & Men – “Would You Still Be There”
Oh Honey – “Sugar, You”
Pantera – “Cowboys From Hell (Live from Monsters In Moscow Festival)”
Seasick Steve – “Summertime Boy”

How long are these exclusive at launch? Because I want all of them.

The PS3 wireless instruments already have to use a dongle to work, so people using PS3 instruments on their PS4 simply use the same dongle they've always used.

It's only the Xbox One people using X360 instruments that will need a special adapter. They haven't detailed the adapter availability/price yet though, which might be part of the reason they haven't detailed the digital pre-order yet for the Xbox.

Guess I can give my guitars to a buddy then since he can use them......still got the dongles and everything for them.

Good game Fyre! Haven't played in a while so I was rusty as fuck, and 16 songs in a row was one hell of a welcome back. Was missing stuff I shouldn't have! Still 99% and 100%'s across the board wasn't too shabby I guess!

Good games. And Hysteria on Bass for me either goes really well or I have to 50% it in shame.

My fingers are exploded right now, doubly so because I have to play with the woodstrat.

You've inspired me to hook up my ol' 360 and play a few songs myself. I'd be down to join you all sometime. I primarily drum but am too lazy tonight.

The whole Rock Band 4 announcement has gotten me to start buying Rock Band DLC again. I still have a pretty overwhelming amount of songs to buy before Rock Band 4's launch, though.

I'm wondering if Harmonix's sale on pre-Rock Band 3 DLC will end once Rock Band 4 comes out. I need to start buying songs soon.
