God Eater is watchable if you don't take it seriously and just try to enjoy the nice direction and some of the badass action scenes.
Actually, there's a lot of trash in it at the moment so digging through it for the few bits of gold might not be worth your time.
Watch K-on! It's cute and actually good.

I'll second Gurren Lagann. The show is so awesome, awesome doesn't even begin to describe it.
God Eater: Depends on what you're looking for. It's rule-of-cool fighting giant monsters with giant weapons. Featuring gorgeous backgrounds, unique and, imo, really great art design in general, great direction, great animation and great soundtrack.
But if you're looking for something realistic or story-heavy, then nope.
Other shows on Crunchyroll: Ushio to Tora is great. It's 90ies shonen at it's best.
And, if you're not watching it already: go watch Shokugeki no Soma right now. Best anime of last season and this season, too.
I rewatched the first 7 episodes with some friends who hadn't watched it, a while ago. And man, it just oozes style and badass every single second. So good.

Rokka is good if you can make it to the third episode.

why would one want to work at an american anime licensor, it doesnt seem like a job that would be around for 25+ years to offer stability, and there is limited to no opportunity for advancement. Viz has always been the one that seemed to me to be the one that would be able to last for decades, theres plenty of manga out there, they got novels too, they bring content catering various ages, and they at least probably get some support from the two media companies that established them. When was the last time a book publisher folded? Meanwhile how many anime companies have folded and gone away?
Also I dont see whats wrong with paying new grads a good wage, how else would they get some one to join a company in which people will assault you in comment sections?
Lastly what do they do all day in an anime license company, from their videos Funi seems pretty empty and pretty bored with the dull original video variety shows they create. I dont see how an anime licensor can innovate.
At the end of the day as long as Funi brings Free!, Seraph of the End, and all of Assassination Classroom, then I wont really be that concerned if they folded.

When you're a bulky ass brute like Guts who is known for his strength, oversized weapons are great. When you look like the love spawn of My Chemical Romance and Mom's Minivan it looks silly and too anime.

So now we begin our first arc and world building with the exorcist society. I like that the MC isn't a OP as hell and gets beat up regularly. That's pretty refreshing after watching Stardust Crusaders.
Who else would it go to? Not Aniplex since they already get all the shows that Aniplex Japan owns. That leaves Viz (which is perfectly good, but the don't pick that many shows up) or Sentai Filmworks. And I rather have Sentai Filmworks die. Their product is usually worse than Funi's (video quality, sub quality, dub quality) but more expensive.

Well, they actually gave an explanation for why they are able to do that in episode 1. Remember the bracelets? Remember the scene where Lenka went highspeed mode? It's pretty obvious they got injected with Oracle cells or whatever and are "super human". The "but it's not realistic!" card doesn't work here.

I may be biased since I love the games. I think it is pretty good for what it does, which is give you action packed scenes with kids wearing flashy clothes and huge blades and cannons to fight monsters that are trying to exterminate Humanity. The art is something very different from anything out now, it's gorgeous at times, the direction is often praised here even by those who don't like the rest. I'd say watch episode 1. If that doesn't sell you on it, drop it.

Does anyone else really like the design of Lenka in God Eater? It feels like this is the peak of all these years of making "generic anime protagonists", the ultimate form.
It's not super flashy but it looks really badass, I love it.

Yeah I think he looks pretty damn cool. I dig his rain coat lol. His personality is pretty Shounen, but I think it works well. He's not overly angsty, and plays a somewhat quiet role, taking stuff in as the player would in the games.
I'm just confused as to why they didn't go with Yuu. They even have Yuu as the GE1 protaganist in GE2 if you don't bring your save data over.

Maybe they thought using Yuu would be too much considering his personality is like that of a harem protagonist in the Manga adaption. So they probably just wanted to start fresh I guess.

the 'but it's not realistic' card was completely miminal to how ridiculous it looks considering the character designs. The argument was more of the ridiculous nature of these scrawny ass teens using weapons that are normally reserved for big manly men men men that are ripe with glorious muscles.
"but they were injected with Thanos cells" is as good of an explanation as you can expect I guess.
At the end of the day it's a mediocre show with generic character designs that happens to entertain in direction. And hey that's enough to get me to not drop it.

Kind of. They shut down publishing in 2011 and came back with a new incarnation in 2012, but by the time they wanted to start publishing manga again they'd lost most of the licenses. And yes, they were definitely hurt by not having the same brand loyalty that VIZ might with shonen jump when piracy and ebooks became an issue, but I'd argue they had other problems that led to their downfall.

Stop? Lenka has all the makings of 2nd best character design of this year after Yuu in Seraph of the End. That scene of Lenka walking all epically, and getting dressed or sporting just his upper body from coming back from battle, or his outfit as he swings that huge sword, are all great. I dont think he is generic, he doesnt have the "ill fight for my friends" mentality, at least openly, and I cant remember every having a bright smile like Yuu or Eren, etc.

I think it's just been overdone. Same old tropes, same old situations. I mean heck the show doesn't need to be rated R or anything, they don't need to explicitly show what happened. I can probably count with both hands how many protagonists actually did something other than run off or get cockblocked lol.

This episode was great. The show doesn't even seem to question how fucking outrageous it is to be attacking medieval level troops with modern 21st century equipment. Don't warp my words, Rito's a loser in every aspect of the show, he won't go anywhere with anyone. Besides, Mikan wouldn't go that far either, an OVA episode already proved that when she was under Celines' pollen.
