Atlus USA responds to question on PC Persona 5 release, sounds unlikely

Sounds like another case of out-of-touch Japanese management not realizing what kind of market they're ignoring. The port would pay for itself on day one and popular PC games continue selling for years.

Sega's figured it out, mostly. You'd think they'd try convincing Atlus Japan.

Given there is absolutely no precedent for this, why would anyone in their right mind expect Persona 5 to come to PC? It's like the people who thought Bloodborne would come to PC. It's never gonna happen. Get over it.

Now if only he'd give me a solid answer as to whether or not the Japanese voices will be an option in the NA release. Just keeps telling me there's no info to share on that...

(Also yes I know many people love their track record for dub voices I'm not trying to get under your skin here I just prefer the Japanese voices.)

That comparison doesn't make any sense. Bloodborne is published by Sony, Persona 5 isn't.

The reason I never expected it to come to PC is because, as others put it, Atlus lives in a bubble.

lol, Statham said the same thing.

It just Atlus being Atlus.
Yeah, I don't see any need to suppose a Sony involvement here.

Its Atlus. They need to catch up with everyone else regarding localization.

From what I heard their localization of titles is actually pretty quick.

Hearing about this stuff reminds me of what XSEED said talking to Falcom is like. Basically no room to maneuver, but it's not so bad because Falcom knows which platforms are important to support at the right time (in Japan, and now America recently).

About as likely as me getting struck by lightning today.
Their "survey" demanded that you pay an extra tax for voices on top of their Atlus Tax, should such a thing ever happen.

Instead of asking for a PC release, they should ask them about the release date

Do you really not understand that it's nothing like that? Sony paid for Bloodborne. They have a vested interest in getting people to buy PS4s. Sony did not pay Atlus anything for Persona 5. They have no say in whether or not it can be ported elsewhere.

The only thing stopping a PC port of P5 is Atlus Japan.

I think Sony "persuaded" them for a PS4 version, but other than that, I don't think they did.

The existence of a PS4 version is what made me think there is a deal in place between Sony and Atlus for this game. I'm not sure why so many people in this thread think it's impossible that Sony paid for exclusivity. It could just be Atlus not seeing enough profit potential of releasing the game on PC but an exclusivity deal also wouldn't surprise me.

While I'm not really interested in Persona, it is a shame Atlus isn't interested in pursuing the PC market. Maybe someday.

What? Bloodborne is a Sony IP is it not? Persona is not, it's an IP that is developed, published and owned independently of any of the console platform holders. I don't really see how it's so outlandish to think that it could be a possibility.

Guess I'll have a reason to fire up the old ps4 before 2015 is over.

Especially since they were bought by one of the biggest PC publishers in Sega. Would've been nice, but Atlus is a weird company.

I would spend so much money on Atlus games for PC.

I thought Square Enix throwing out ports would open up the opportunity for Atlus and others to start doing the same. This response is rather shitty. Like, they're saying it's extremely unlikely, and not even suggesting a reason.

Well, Sega could easily provide the necessary manpower to port the game over to the PC.

The Persona studio itself isn't that big, giving them even more stuff to do wouldn't really work out.
Just look how well the PS4 port worked out, the game took longer than expected.

I was more talking about stuff like dual audio, not region locking the only persona game to have full dual audio (P4A), atlus tax, fucking over Europe, etc. They do have a fast turnaround but theres so much to improve on.

If it came down to them just offering a paid voice pack DLC, I mean... I'd pay it

YOU MAKE ONE HHGTTG REFERENCE ON TWITTER AND IT TURNS INTO A DAMN GAF THREAD.

So you're saying we shouldn't retitle the thread to "Atlus' John Hardin promises Persona 5 will never come to PC within the next 100 years or he'll cut off his own head Mikami style"?

I do think in general there's a pretty big missed opportunity given how both higher end niche Japanese games and niche dating/relationship sims/visual novels have sold on Steam.

So one thing I'm keeping an eye on Steam-wise in terms of Japanese game sales is Tales of Zestiria. The reason being is that this is one of the VERY few times in PC history where a modern JRPG gets released the same time on PC as console.

I really want to look at the impact that title has and then contest how well a Persona 5 PC version would do, since I believe these two titles operate under a similar niche of gamers.

I fear this game might be the one that Canadians will say no to in terms of price and start a riot

Might be because the games are kind of in a weird spot there. There's no definitive version of Persona 3, so a port is unlikely. Persona 4 Golden is Vita exclusive right now. And it's entirely possible they might be worried about piracy and/or don't think there is a market and/or there are technical issues regarding Persona 5. To say nothing of the older titles.

It does seem like a missed opportunity, you're right. Especially in light of the Falcom and NIS games up there on Steam.

Get with the times Atlus. Other JRPG companies are making bank on PC. I mean even fucking Namco is releasing on PC. NAMCO.

If you dont have a PS4 you can always wait for Persona 5 the Platinum for ???

I mean, I'm going to get it for PS3. Probably an import.
But it's tough to play when you think of what my PC could do with the game. Disregarding graphics... having keyboard and mouse support in a turn-based game is really nice. :)

Yeah... don't post these things without any sort of evidence to back up the claim.

Not every console game has a PC release. Are they all moneyhats regardless of platform?

I've already explained that the existence of a PS4 version is what makes me think there's a deal in place for the title. I don't know what's going on for sure with the game. My original comment was more or less thinking outloud on what could be going on behind the scenes. I've already acknowledged that it might just be Atlus not wanting a PC port.

"Atlus USA complains on GAF about references being turned into threads."

To be fair, the question wasn't about Atlus, it was about Persona 5.

Who knows, maybe we'll get Digital Devil Saga in the near future! Believe!
