Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Jokes aside the patch got rid of chapter installs if you full installed. But I always thought that would happen eventually, game had such good gameplay to me but you never had a chance to really use it all that time.

Forgot about that, yeah. One of my biggest problems was how short act 5's infiltration was. I would have loved to explore Haven more fully.

wow, im surprised you could run gz, thats pretty impressive for a $250 machine. have to tone down the graphics a bit?

To the point of zero rain. Low on everything. On the other side of things before my XP desktop started malfunctioning, it could run Skyrim.

Dell Dimension E520, pentium D processor, 3gb RAM, Radeon HD 8250 card.

Aren't there 200 PS3s out there? The ones with only 12gb HDDs?

Yeah, so right now on Amazon the 12gb one is actually $177 and the 500gb one is only $220. Not bad.

If I try really hard, I would have $350 saved up in four or five months. But, I usually spend my money too quickly. Bad credit, too. :( But soon I'm getting a designated payee to put me on an allowance while they pay my bills for me.

No,
Paz would be something like 50 around the time of MGS2.

This isn't really spoiler talk so dont' worry guys.

Olga would be 46 in MGS2 if she were Paz assuming Paz is 13.

Paz is not 13, she's in her 20's, she just says she's a teenager.

And Olga in MGS2 is like 20-30's at most

Oh wait, thought this was that thread, sorry.

I'm gonna leave all MGS threads, I'm sure someone else will fuck up like this and post a spoiler here without double checking. TRUST NO ONE.

this.

the internet is going to be a scary place for the next week and a half.

meanwhile, i installed an MSF mod onto civ 5, and i'm currently building my empire before i make the whole world burn under my mighty army

Playing Ground Zeroes again and realised something....Chico seems really, REALLY sure that Paz is dead when you find him. He even says "they killed her...right in front of me".

Maybe Cipher has a Paz dispenser. :p

One of the tapes I believe explain that. Skullface tells him that she ended up dying to mess with him some more...and before that they were torturing/raping her in front of Chico. I was pretty shocked when I was listening to it.

Ah right, it's been a while since I heard the tapes.

Actually they tell him that Paz talked and she's going back to Snake, while Chico is going to stay there, Skullface tells him he can fix that if Chico talks, that he can kill Paz so no one knows he talked EDIT: and that he will even take some guards off so he can be rescued by Snake (now that I think about it, I think Chico had already talked by this point, right after he was forced "to take" Paz, I think Skullface was trying him to just call Big Boss to go there). Then he tells him Paz died.

Well, that's what I remember, maybe I'm wrong in the order and you're the one who's right.

I'm beginning to rescind my worries a bit. It's Kojima, the story and insanity will be there. It's just a big game so the story is going to be spread out over a much bigger slice of bread.

It'll be like MGS 3 except bigger scale. That game was also front and end loaded with cutscenes.

This is pretty much what I expect.

Also, this is completely tales from my arse, but I honestly has a vibe that MGSV will be more standalone than what most people think.

Eg. ton of reference to future happenings, but still focused on telling a revenge story with heavy involvement from Skull face rather than harping too much on ZERO,LET,the overarching plot stuff.

Kinda like PW. That game lends heavily to MGS3, but there's enough of an internal exposition within PW that you can grasp the basic necessities of the Boss's part in the story without needing to have played MGS3.

that's actually quite a good comparison.

mgs3 always had the best cutscene to gameplay ratio and for the most part left the player alone to just, well, play. this seems an extension of that.

Yup! Kojima has said as much. Makes me excited for a bunch of new stories that stand on their own in MGSV! :)

After MGS4 I couldn't give a shit if they decided to off long cutscenes for good. Probably the best news I've heard in a while.

For me it doesn't have to be all or nothing. They've all maybe had too much, but even if Kojima dialed the quantity back a fair bit you'd still probably have a generous serving. I want it to have a big story with a good amount of cutscenes but it can be focused and reasonable. I agree that I want nothing like MGS4 in this regard. Like ever again.

Boy oh boy was MGS3 front-loaded with cutscenes. It starts off with that incredible HALO jump scene, Snake lands like a badass, and then just when you think you're about to get into the jungle it cuts away to Zero spending twenty minutes explaining the entire history of the Cold War to you. Then you climb the tree, get your backpack, and as you hit the ground The Boss calls to waffle at you some more. Thirty-one minutes of sitting there with your thumbs itching to get to work before the game lets you leave the first area (I timed it :P). Then the stretch between finding Sokolov and starting Operation Snake Eater is like forty-five minutes.

I love that game with all my heart, and to be fair it obviously opens up a lot more as you get further in, but the opening hours have a serious case of:

Replaying the series over the last few weeks has me even more excited for MGSV's method of storytelling. I'll take cassette tapes over half-hour exposition dump cutscenes any day of the week.

I would like a nice middle ground between cinematics and audio logs. I worry with the sheer volume of missions that it'll feel like there aren't many cut-scenes.

I'd take that front loading of cutscenes over having to play cassettes to get story any day. I want Kojima epic insanely long cutscenes now more than ever because unlike MGS4 I know there's gameplay as well in V.

The more iI see of this game, the less likely it is I will buy it. Worm holes? I played GZ on my laptop and got to rescue Chico. After that, the aiming became messed up so bad on controller that I had to use the mouse instead.

I have no gaming machine other than PSone, PS2, Wii, and Wii U. I cannot afford a new PC and am torn by the idea of buying a 360 or PS3. I don't like the newer machines that much for some reason.

And OT I don't like the idea that Game Stop is selling old "piano black" PS3s because those things kept getting bricked by new firmwares that weren't properly coded for them.
C-cmon Morty, y-you know you want to play this g -buuurp- great new action game. Stealth, future, science, you know its going to be great Morty. Juuuuuust great.

Triple AAA titles need to rely on tapes now? Good lord.

We've been calling this game Peace Walker 2 for a reason guys, we've known this for years at this point. Did you not listen to the tapes in Peace Walker? All of the actually worthwhile story stuff is in there, but it absolutely sucks that you had to listen to them on a blank screen and not be allowed to do anything else, MGS5 fixes this problem entirely. I'd rather have tapes I can listen to during the downtime between missions than be forced into a codec screen for 20 minutes before each mission, killing the flow and momentum, I love the older MGS games to death but the codec mechanic would totally kill the flow and freedom this game is trying to present.

People complained about forced codecs in the past and now they are entirely optional, walking around Mother Base/driving around the desert/taking a mid-mission dump and listening to mission briefings will be rad, the game is 50+ hours long there's plenty of time to fully absorb the story if that's what you want to do, I see nothing wrong with giving the player more freedom in how they want to experience the story.

Tapes in PW are largely :

- non-story critical TRIVIA (the game has shitloads of TRIVIA like Big Boss talking about Che Guevara)

- detailed exposition for stuff that was told in cutscenes (we know Boss was important to Strangelove just through the story beats itself, tapes expanded it but there is no huge loss in not knowing)

Most of the stuff in the tapes are stuff that contributes to 40 minutes long cutscenes.

Yes, many of them are strong tidbits that add new layers of character development, etc, but I'd argue a lot of them are stuff that in older MGS games would've been part of the optional CODEC moments.

Honestly, detractors of the tapes in PW should really listen to them and what their contents are before deriding them. MGScanlon PW literally skipped EVERY TAPE (except 1) and it was not a weaker story without them.Just that the tapes add to the character involvement.

The great thing about the tapes is that it, so to speak, 'cut the fat' from some cutscenes and forced codec calls.

remember back in the day when reviewers beat the games before reviewing beat...
goodtimes...😒
not reading a single review....

He did see the normal ending. He says if there's a 'true' ending ala Peace Walker he didn't find it (and to be fair, if it is unlocked in a similar way to how PW's was, I wouldn't expect anyone to find it without a guide. That was some hot bullshit).

I think the major thing people are forgetting here is that a vast majority of the story will be told in the tapes, just like in peace walker, except this time you can listen to them while playing the game, which seems pretty awesome seeing as this game has such a massive amount of gameplay.

I seriously doubt any of the reviewers scrambling trying to finish the game in time sat around listening to tapes.

i agree that a lot of backstory will be told on tapes, but not occurring events.

@LupeFiasco: After 8 hours straight of playing #ThePhantomPain @Konami HQ all I have to say is MGS Fans just Call off work & school for the rest of 2015

IMO, the only stuff that should've been hinted better or integrated with the story cutscenes more are the Paz Diaries and the crazy thing about it is that even those who are neck deep into collecting tapes and listening to them won't find them due to how hard it is to get them.

The motivation for Paz to break and reveal Zero's location to "save BB" doesn't make sense without us learning that her loyalty to Zero was slowly being broken down by how comfortable it was being a normal girl on MB.

Just wrapped up Day Three at Konami LA. Two minor notes (that might've already been covered in earlier posts):

-I appreciate that a game-changing weapon like the silenced sniper rifle wasn't unlocked until I was at the 20-hour mark of my progress (your mileage may vary).

-There are sorted columns for the side missions based on importance, just in case you want to focus on the optional missions that greatly enhance the story.

Would you consider the story heavy side missions to be well worth the time invested? Do they seem necessary to get a complete picture?

Sounds like it has a traditional open world RPG structure in quests, not unlike The Witcher 3. Mainline missions that drive the story, but also optional secondary missions that can contain a lot of important character/world building narrative. Kind of like assisting Triss in Wild Hunt; you don't have to once you've completed the start of the Ciri arc, but it certainly pays to.

Absolutely. Some will wonder why they weren't part of the main mission list.

Not sure if you can answer this but would you agree with the french magazine that there are only about 5% cutscenes in the whole game?

Disagree or Agree would be enough ;)
