Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Huh -- I tried Gouken back in SSF4, but he never clicked with me. That's pretty cool though... I don't even know if I've seen that in tourney play when I've watched streams
Gouken has been used very situationally by Infiltration to good success, usually to stuff out defensive Guile/Sagats. He also landed a couple counters on yomi reads. But otherwise counter, like in Tekken and KOF, are rare in tourneys as players are unpredictable and can punish whiffs.

I would actually like him back in the game as well.

Me too!!!! Me effing too!

I play as Ryu on Ultra just cuz I will play him on 5...if Gouken is in or a character with his moveset I'm droppin lame ass Ryu for my guy.

So many good buttons on Gouken too. Cr. mp , hp, hk, & Fwd Mp especially....then cr.mp to flip is such a good mix

It's a bit old, so I'm pretty sure someone already posted this. But look what EventHubs found in USF4.

Yes, it's real (even though you could easily argue that it's fake by just looking at it).

So going by that logic, Alex, Haggar, & R. Mika are safe bets......right?
Well those posters are probably directly ripped from the SFxT stages they came from.. So doubt Capcom knew what the entire roster would be in 2012.. We already talked about this too.

edit: I think it's entirely possible Haggar, Alex, and R Mika were down the road dlc for SFxT, but after SFxT bombed Capcom abandoned them. So if that is the case they might have picked them up again for SF5, because they already had the concepts and move lists drawn up for SFxT...

For Haggar, I'm not sure anymore since we have three more newcomer spots which are more likely to be Zen, Rachid and Laura.

I'm pretty sure that Hagger would be more likely to be considered as a newcomer right?

Technically he would be, but this wouldn't be his first Capcom fighting game.

You actually might want to try Karin. She has a high reversal and a low reversal. You can do them on their own, but the best part is that you can throw them into her rekka strings. Say they block the first one or two rekka attacks, make your next move a reversal to catch them trying to punish you. Or if they tend to hit buttons even when you've caught them with the first couple rekka hits, tack on the reversal and punish them for their impatience.

On top of that she also has a 360 command grab, various rekka combinations including kicks that knock the opponent into the air, elbows that knock them back and sliding sweeps (all of these can be done as moves on their own outside of a rekka string as well). Also she has an anti-air move with the same motion as Cammy's hooligan combination. She has an interesting combination of moves.

Indeed, I miss that the most about her. The rekka chains were fun as hell, plus she just had so many options in general!

I will be very happy if she returns. But...

If I had to pick between her and Juri... Juri all the way.

Man I hate the wait for roster reveals. :-/

I hope they put Sean in as a playable character.

Maybe have him stray away from admiring Ken's style and taking up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. That seems like some cool development.

As a playable SF character? Yeah, Haggar would considered a newcomer.

Even if Mike's not on the starting roster, I hope he's a shoe in for DLC.

I really don't think Capcom is going to add Haggar to SF V. I think it's possible but unlikely. His fame came and went with MvC3 and he just simply never was a Street Fighter character. I think Alex and maybe Zangief will be the only other male grapplers. R. Mika better be in the game though.

I don't think those nessesarily mean anything. Siliconera confirmed Alex and R. Mika (Along Karin and Urien) and at this point those are the only rumors for returning characters that seem credible.

What does that even mean? Final Fight and SF crossed over long ago, so he's in the same universe. He's as much SF character as any other FF character. They just haven't given him a chance yet as playable in a new SF game. Just because they didn't add him to Ultra doesn't mean he's not popular and people don't want him in SF. That's like saying Alex's fame came and went with SF3, and Mika's came and went with SFA3. It really doesn't mean anything.

The posters/billboards and other background stage elements were replaced pretty much wholesale when they were ported over to Ultra, as they contained a lot of Tekken stuff, or easter egg references to characters already in SF4 (IE, a giant Fuerte billboard was a key part of the half pipe stage in SFxT) - so I'm pretty sure those easter eggs are new for Ultra, for 2014, when SF5 was obviously well underway. For what it's worth.

One thing I am curious about - what's that Mika art from? Haggar's is plainly Marvel 3, but is that Mika art new? This is what has me most curious about that.

The Alex one was originally in SFxT, here's proof (far right billboard in the distance):
Don't know about the R. Mika vs Haggar one, but I assume because the billboard texture quality is low like Alex's, it was a poster in the far background that got put as one of the front ones to replace the tekken themed ones.

soooo... while ono's tweet about preparing for PAX was mentioned here I don't think I've seen the follow ups posted the next day mentioned yet :3

And I'll go to XXXXX at early September. It was my first time going there. Of course Blanka's pocket has something ;D

SF Japan Team are making preparation for Tokyo Game Show! Yesterday,I could watch to it situation, they are proposing a funny plan ;D

Why would he censor the name of the first location? What 'funny plan' could TGS be about? Ono dressed as Mika or Karin perhaps? :P

There's a Gamestop SFV tournament in Vegas, September 2nd. Could be that.

Your guess is as good as mine, though 'something in blanka's pocket' usually equals a reveal of some kind so I guess it's worth keeping an eye on until he clarifies it :o

Thinking of 'funny plans' what if they had a TGS reveal with a silhoutte of ingrid with her theme tune and whatnot but then revealed it was Karin cosplaying as her? :P

If he reveal one at this championship and another at this week PAX, it will be one character per event if we go by my previous list (TGS, BGS, PGS, PSE).

But, the way it's worded, I think we might have a lot more information around TGS. More stages, perhaps story mode, more modes to go along with new characters being announced.I am also not sure if they would announce a new character at this tournament, perhaps a teaser.

So, when will be PAX this week ?

All I'm saying is that I think it's unlikely that Capcom will add him in SF after being in MvC3. He's a popular character and he was one of my main's in MvC3 and I've always been a big fan of him and the Final Fight series. Guy is my main in USFIV. I just know Capcom enough at this point to know that he'll at the very least be a DLC character down the line, not a starting roster character.

I hope for DLC. I guess him in MvC is a case of being careful what you wish for if that means Capcom feels like since they put him in any game the job is done. I would have rathered him not be in MvC if it meant not ever having him playable in SF.

So we're down to 8 character reveals, with 4 months til end of the year.

PSX 2015 will be held during first week of December; we got Claw's reveal during First week of August.
Assuming we get 1 character reveal during December, and maybe 1 during PAX Prime in a week's time, that leaves 6 characters to reveal in 3 months.

That's just my speculation :3

I think we'll probably get two at PSX. Either two during Sony's press conference at the event, or one during the conference and another right before the Grand Finals of the Capcom Cup.

There's 7 character reveals left, not 8. Assuming we get one this week, two reveals in September, two in october then the last two at PSX fits nicely

This would make sense, since:

One in this week PAX
Two for TGS in September
One for BGS and one for PGS. Both in October.
PSX is in december. They could announce 2 in there, but that would leave november with nothing.

BUT WHAT WILL WE GET IN NOVEMBER?!
Better be a trailer showcasing what modes will be in the Console release @_@
