MGSV:TPP LAUNCH TRAILER

It's been an honour.

Good Job.

People ignoring this makes you wonder how many acutally played any of the previous games.

It is all about the patriots supressing technological advancement to maintain control. Also MGS is a military SCIFI game. What's with people suddenly having problems
with their suspension of disbelief? Are you seriously telling me everything in this series was completely fine until you heard the sound that the Bipedal Nuclear Mech makes?
...okay then.

I have problems with consistency and retconnings, sci-fi dosn't excuses those 2 things.

Lol Kojima trolling with that hallway scene?:P I doubt he would outright show a big spoiler for the launch trailer. Anyway that was a sweet trailer for even the series with him at the helm overall. I still not sure about really checking this out tbh. I liked what I played of the series in ways, but bleh think I lost interests a bit while ago.

Not to mention that Shinkawa did a marketing poster for it:

Oh man that looks so good.:o

man what a weird trailer

like at first it was all emotional and cool. felt all "goodbye koji you bastard" yadda yadda

then it focused on a metal gear with a whip??

fitting for MGS tho, just weird

If it's in a trailer its probably not that big of a spoiler, yall need to find your chill and hold onto it. That Metal Gear is full anime and I love it.

Big Boss is obviously not Skullface...it's a red herring. Besides it's probably just a hallucination or there to purposefully mislead people. If it was true, then GZ wouldn't make sense. Also, when you see Big Boss in MG1, 2 and 4, his head and face don't represent that of Skullface either.

That was an incredible watch, I really can't wait for 9/1 at all. God man, the first few minutes were emotional as hell. So good. Lol @ so many people calling it "spoilery", it's a launch trailer guys, of course it's going to show SOME stuff you've never seen before.

You people need to chill out with all this spoiler stuff. Watch the trailer, not really that bad spoiler wise.
The Skullface stuff is either a metaphor or a way of showing that Skull is a figment of BB's imagination, maybe a Fight Club kind of thing. The Metal Gear was cool but this trailer is totally worth watching. The first two minutes at least.
Putting this in spoilers just in case (also a fight club spoiler)

I can really imagine Kojima thinking and scheming during the creation of these trailers. "Hey Steve, can you render this certain scene with a different character model? People will go ballistic!"

You're taking it way too literally. I have no doubt that it's a metaphor, and while it could be a hallucination, it would merely be a visual extension of that metaphor.

I feel like reading this thread is more of a threat of spoilers then watching an official launch trailer.

then again, I am the kind of person who consumes official media trailers before launch and don't consider that spoiling anything.

its what the company wants you to see/think before release.

haha, if MGSV retroactively makes the explanation in Rising canon (and thus makes Rising officially canon) I will laugh. Loudly.

It is officially canon and the suppressing and controlling of weapons and technology is definitely mentioned as something the Patriots did in the other games.

And this is aside from just information and cultural control through "memes", collecting data on the perfect soldier, and whatnot.

People freaking out and taking the skull face scene literally is equal parts hilarious and sad. Come on guys.

I have problems with consistency and retconnings, sci-fi dosn't excuses those 2 things.

So what gets retconned here? Like I said, one of the big points of this series is the grip the Patriots have on everything. And even then, there is quite possibly a reason why this Metal Gear wasn't continued after TPP. We don't know, because we haven't played the game. In a series like MGS bigger is not always better. The massive use of nanomachines supports that.

Putting this in spoilers just in case, bunch of you seem on edge

Hey man thank you very much, now I'm seeing MGSV as "Fight Club" :C

That actually wasn't a very good trailer. It started out as a metal gear retrospective, shifted to big boss' character arc, and then it's balls to the wall metal gear action for the last two minutes. Uh, okay.

E3 2013 Red Band will always be the series' best trailer.

This trailer shows more than I was expecting, but the fact some things are uhh... made "clear" to us makes me think that Kojima is leading us on. Ultimately I choose to believe that the trailers are made to let us have our expectations subverted, so are part of the experience.

Anyway, that's why I choose to watch all the trailers and not consider myself spoiled, but I'm still not going to discuss specifics anywhere because I know others have different perspectives.

So hyped right now. So. Hyped.

Oh damn.

So then "from FOX two phantoms were born" actually means Big Boss has a doppelganger...

Makes sense ...

I mentioned it in another thread, but Otacon sucks at making things.(Spoilers for MGS1, 2, 4.)

We can assume Otacon built MG Rex through some blueprints from the MGS3 scientist that his dad probably left him
Emma helped Otacon with the tip about Metal Gear Ray
The virus for Arsenal Gear was Emma's
The MK2 from MGS4 was built with assistance from Sunny
Sunny is the one who creates the 'FOXALIVE' with Naomi

Otacon has literally done nothing by himself. Metal Gear Rex being weaksauce compared to previous MG's and future MG's makes sense

There will be more games :p

Yeah I know "not the same without Kojima" but still...

IIRC Kojima said this was the end of the MGS line.

Hopefully Konami acknowledges this and calls the other games "Metal Gear __".

Not to say future games will inherently be bad, but it is nice to see MGS as a by-product of Kojima & co.

That's the joke :D

And this installation just might make it conclusive.

It would also totally explain why they were able to build a Metal Gear later on even though the Patriots held tight the advanced Metal Gear technology from the time period.

Well, the retrospective was actually a way to lead up to the Metal Gear reveal.

There's at least two more gaps that I think justify more games.

I can really imagine Kojima thinking and scheming during the creation of these trailers. "Hey Steve, can you render this certain scene with a different character model? People will go ballistic!"

I don't even think it was supposed to be that. It was just overt symbolism to show that all those people were the same. The only reason people think it could be something literal is because Metal Gear games are batshit crazy and ever since the big reveal from MGS2 the fans think what Kojima had for breakfast has a hidden meaning with dire ramifications on the Metal Gear mythos.

He also has two hands in all of those games.

Sure, just saying there will be more Metal Gear games, whether they're called Solid or not.

they will be shit

I won't touch them.

Maybe. Maybe not.
