where can I buy this soundtrack? it's godly... reminds me of the genesis shooter days sigh

Yes, I played the shit out of both and various other 3D games on my Amiga

They looked nothing like this. You can't achieve that look on a SCD, SNES or Amiga 500.

But that wasn't your original claim though. You said that flat polygons weren't done back in the 16bit era. You never mentioned anything about the image quality.

Looks cool, though it looks more like an OutRun 2 knockoff than a throwback to the 16bit generation. I was expecting to see large pixalated scaling sprites.

None of the SuperFX chip games could produce polycounts or run at frame rates like this. And Silpheed for the Sega CD used FMV video to simulate the look of polygon environments. Though it did use very low poly models for the tiny ships and enemies. There's nothing 16 bit about this at all. Not even early 32bit machines like the Panasonic 3D0 could produce models like this.

I'm not slamming the game, but it is misleading when they call it a tribute to 16bit games.

Please see my response above.

I'd love to see this with some kind of "lo-res" filter, even if it keeps the polygons. Doesn't even need to be CRT, but if they just dial the resolution back to something more "retro", it could look really, really cool.
nope

Do you get anything by 'Pro-ing' all the races. I got 100% on CA, but nothing seemed to happen.
You need 110%, which you get by getting all the blue dots, not just finishing the race and collecting some of them. That had me confused too for a while.

I'm loving this game so far. The graphics are not "literal" 16-bits, but rather modern renditions of the same concept.

It says this right in the OP, some people can't read apparently.

"Horizon Chase brings back the graphic context of the 16-bit generation and creates a style that is inspired in the past without letting go of its contemporaneity."

"You'll feel the retro soul of the game on a completely modern body."

Anyway, the game is freakin awesome. Was a huge fan of the Top Gear games on the SNES, and this feels and sounds like those games.

Got this last night and yeah it's fantastic.

Never played a lot of outrun or those style games (just dabbled), but I really like the simplicity and purity of what this game is.

And make no mistake, the graphics are awesome. Only on second area, but tracks manage to surprise me with new unique looks and feel as I progress.

This game is very good. 60fps, runs so smooth.

Apple should pick this up as a marquee game to launch with Apple TV. Really nice game.

It's eventually coming to Steam/OS X and possibly Android
That's great to hear, I think their stylised approach will scale up nicely to a big TV experience.

Between this, Power Drive 2000, Drift Stage and that other game whose name escapes me at the moment, the subgenre seems well covered. Well, if Sega won't give us new Outrun but the market demands something like this, someone will eventually step in.

Very pleased with this game. It's a nice reminder than mobile games aren't only a sea of F2P crap.

EDIT: also picked up Legend of Grimrock for 99 cents. Wow, been playing mostly 3DS the past few months and kinda forgot how much a dollar or two can get you on mobile. Have to admit, these may not be full out Nintendo games, but they are good.

YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!

THE SOUNDTRACK CAME IN TODAY, AUTOGRAPHED TOO!!!
I have spent like 40 bucks on this game so far. Too early to officially call it, but unofficially? 2015 GOTY

EASILY

High praise for a cheap mobile game.
You know what's sad? It came out of nowhere and beat The 90's Arcade Racer to market.

Well, they're usually crap, grindy or laced with obnoxious IAPs
This bucks the trend, since even Vector Unit's cheap games have a ton of IAPs on mobile
You should check out the iOS threads; dozens of quality mobile games come out very month. The last few threads have had 20+ recommended games featured in the OTs

Finally got my hands on this. I like how Barry put some not-so-subtle nods to the classic Top Gear music. The credits theme is 95% Track 1 from the SNES game!

For all intents and purposes, the music alone makes this game Top Gear 3 (I know Top Gear 3000 existed but that was more like a Spinoff). What a time to be alive.

Amazingly-looking game, right-up-my-alley mechanics, godly soundtrack.

Will control like shit.

/sigh

For a huge Outrun fan like me (for "huge" I mean that imo Outrun is the best arcade of all times) is this Horizon Chase a good choice for short&fun gaming session?
Many mobile racers become boring after few hours so what are the strength points of this?

(Eventually I will buy this on PC or console if it will have improvements)

Bought this yesterday and played the first area and damn, it's so good. Visually is very pretty and it controls pretty well too. I'm loving it and I'm not even the biggest racing fan around. Really recommended, especially for a buck.

Played the first two areas, second area is better. It may be due to the iPad 3 being too weak to run this optimally but it doesn't feel like smooth 60 fps for me. Still a good game, which would be even better with a proper controller

i picked this up blind from the "recommended for your new iphone 6S" bit on the app store because i like outrun. it's great! incredible visuals (especially on the 6S plus), spot-on handling, perfect music. one of the best iOS games i've picked up in months.

i love the way the graphics evoke '80s racers with flat polygons. it's a style out of time.

I have 100%-ed the game on my iPad Air but, out of curiosity, I have tested the the first races on my iPhone 4s and it's amazing how well it runs on this old device. The programmers deserve many credits for that. I only have observed slow downs in the menus so far, probably when the game is decrunching data and trying to work out those mere 512 MB of ram... Great job guys!

And that music... It should hit Spotify very soon, I can't wait.

Thank god it does not. The controls are just fantastic and many options are available to fit your style, various combinations of touch controls, gyros or MFI controllers, your choice. I played with touch controls and it works very well as they perfectly emulated the "binary" behavior of the cars you can find in games such as Lotus Turbo Challenge, Jaguar XJ220 or Top Gear.

I'm in love with this game, it's such a well done love letter to these arcade racing games from the late 80's/early 90's and I won't forget it in my GOTY list. These guys behind the game have been so smart about what to keep from these games and what had to be subtly enhanced.

Thanks for whoever bumped this. Grabbed it on sale and it is probably my favourite racer on iOS. Has a real vibe of lotus turbo challenge on Amiga - the classic way the road is drawn is very much like super hang-on and the music is fantastic.

I would almost have bought an MFI controller, but just saw it is coming to console so I'll double dip instead :)

Ok, I'm giving it a try then /cautious optimisim

I use config "Auto Accelerate 3" and I don't notice any cons vs playing on a SNES with controller. In those games you never needed to leave your thumb from the accelerator so this frees my two thumbs to use each of them to steer left and right (since you just steer by tapping the left/right corners of the screen in this config), and at least one of them is always free when I need to use Nitro or brake. You don't need analog steering in this game because the originals didn't have analog either. It's perfect. Give it a try. :)

I tried the analog steering because I just hate on-screen buttons. The last option in the line is ok, I guess, but the game applies very noticeable auto-correction of the steering that way.
