MGSV:TPP LAUNCH TRAILER

Who's the merc next to Quiet in that ensemble shot at the end? Johnny Sasaki Sr.?

I guess so.

I find it odd ocelot was missing in that ensemble shot. But I dont want to know why because probably it might lead to a story related spoiler. Guess ill wait and find out

Fucking amazing first 3 minutes, but the Metal Gear footage at the end felt disjointed from the rest of the trailer.

Also, I don't think the thing you guys are freaking out about is a spoiler at all. Either way, I'm much more intrigued now to see the story play out than I was previously with the whole "the story is sparse/inconclusive/badly paced" comments.

I am amazed some of you did not see this straight away. I assumed most people here follow the series enough to have spotted it

I noticed the petals and butterfly, I just assumed the fire was carrying over from the end of Ground Zeroes more than anything, didn't even make the connection.

The idea going on at Reddit is that the plans and whatnot for Metal Gears was destroyed upon the dawn of the later games. This would explain the Peace Walker and MGSV Metal Gears appearing more advanced than REX, or the MG Metal Gears. Then, Hal might have found a bit of his father's schematics and built REX in the shape of this Metal Gear, without knowing that there was more to it. Besides, Hal wasn't attempting to build a weapon of destruction when building REX.

Also, Metal Gear RAY was more advanced than these. In terms of movement, they blew it out of the water, and speaking of, they were water-capable as well.

I can't wait for the explanation of how they went from this to TX-55 ten years later.

I love this stuff. Nobody needs to explain or justify anything.

I hope that camo suit (or more locale appropriate versions) are usable in Phantom Pain. I always preferred them to the sneaking suits.

TPP is about Big Boss's descent into evil. He becomes what he hates.

OR, [stupid time travel theory goes here].

Huh funny because just now on the 500 hour marathon there was something about time travel from a GZ mission. i didnt pay much attention at the time though.

The great thing is, it still leaves lots of questions that need answering.

I mean, unless time travel is a thing either Skully is an hallucination or... well i don't know, and I like not having all the answers.

You mean the Raiden mission? Lol, that's just Kojima making fun of Metal Gear Rising. It's not even considered canon.

Some of them even have drills instead of treads/legs, spinning sideways, and still moving the tank forward lol.

...not sure if you're being sarcastic or just ignorant. Screw type treads actually work and were developed by both the American and Russians.

Oh, god, that was a beautiful love letter from Kojima to Metal Gear. Ow, my heart.

...THEN AWESOME BIPEDAL GIANT METAL GEAR WHOSE NAME I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW TO SPELL! YES!

With how this game seems to be setting up BB's reason for building his hatred, and MGS4 was about letting go of that hatred (and MGS3 was so heavily built on the previous games) I'm tentatively expecting the best version of the series playthrough not to be chronological, and not to be release, but to be a mix of both.

1 2 3 V 4

3 isn't as enjoyable unless it's played after 1 and 2, but with how final 4 was, I'm expecting V to fit best THERE. (and 4 isn't really a significant downgrade from V in as much severity as you'd get from going pure chronological order with 1 in the middle)

V seems to be so heavily bleeding in and coming full circle, and 4 was about bleeding out and letting go...That final scene of 4 was all about BB making amends with the Boss and closing things off with Zero. V looks like the game that makes Zero matter....that's just what I'm predicting.

I just wish we'd gotten an awesome PS4 port of MGS4. I wonder if we'll ever get that. MGS4 would be SO GOOD with a solid 60 fps and higher res.

I also want to say, Theme of Quiet might now be my favorite metal gear song, more than Way to Fall or Say Goodbye to Yesterday.

One might say the trailer gets spoilery precisely at 2:45. Some might think it's just showing you, for the very first time, what Big Boss looked like in MG...

GUYS BUG BOSS IS SKULL FACE AFTER HE INVENT TIMES TRAVEL AND GOES BACK IN TIME TO MENACE HIMSELF FOR SOME REASON AND CHICO IS QUIET AND IVE NEVER HEARD OF A VISUAL METAPHOR AND I CANT BELIEVE KOJIGOD WOULD SPOIL THE GLORIOUS STORY FOR THIS GAME.

Watched the trailer again after sleeping and I'm now hype as fuck. The first can not get here fast enough.

Oh, god, that was a beautiful love letter from Kojima to Metal Gear.

'Memories, I want to give them to you, so you can see what we left there'

Pretentious? Hell yes. True? Hell yes. I truly think Kojima is one of the 'visionaries' in gaming. I also understand that his 'vision' doesnt suit the modus operandi if todays industry. The 'games' themselves might suffer under his ambition, but damn, I'm pretty sure he 'gave it all'. He is not a Miyamoto who focusses on the more 'core' experiences of gameplay; but atleast he tries/tried to tell a story with conviction, and personally, I find that more impressive than another AAA-production with a storyline full of tropes (Im looking at you, Mass Effect) that ticks a lot of boxes but doesnt 'mean' anything in the end.

I fully expect their explanation is that a humanoid MG still isn't feasible on it's own, but if you have Mantis supporting it, he can essentially manipulate it's body like a corpse, which is kind of badass honestly.

But is that Kojima pulling from the canon aspects of Portable Ops or straight up ripping off RAXA?

Yep the burnt BB is probably from MG2.

Which opens a whole new set of speculations.

While reviews have been spoiler free, they provided bits of information that you can't help putting together, which will inevitably have you thinking about more theories.

Right now I think we have enough elements to come up with something that might turn out accurate, although a few reviewers swear
there's no way anyone could see that coming
