It's worth getting hyped for though, right?

You got MGSV (crap game, I kid), Uncharted, Mass Effect, FF7 Remake, and a bunch of other stuff. The smaller audiences aren't being neglected either so you've got plenty of Japanese games like Shenmue or niche JRPGs, and then there's a bunch of other stuff incoming.

The only bad thing is early announcements.

Remember Rime? That game? From 2013?!

There's honestly like a dozen games which were announced over two years ago, and haven't released. I think this is also why early generation is frustrating for a lot of people. You get games announced, and many times, it's when they're too early, and it makes matters worse. But since you've seen them for so long already, you want to see more new stuff, but that's not always possible since then you'd just have lots of early announcements.

This is why the middle of the generation is always better. Everyone has to make sacrifices in the early part with things that are just really far away.

But wow, is it going to suck if these games end up being disappointing. All my faith is on Uncharted 4 now. It's going to make me feel good again. I balee in Nathaniel Drake. He's not the hero I deserve, but the hero I need.

Edit:

Oh right, there's Persona 5 at the end of the year. I'm curious to play that too. Hoping it's as good as everyone says it is.

Been waiting so long for that and even Xbox One's Below............both were announced in 2013

Even though I won't be able to watch live, I will do some Bold Predictions
-Persona 5 Worldwide launch December 8th(except Europe, because fuck you Europe)
-DanganRonpa 1 VR launch title in Japan for Morpheus
-DanganRonpa 3 is also a Morpheus game(The creator said that it will come out in an unexpected way)
-Level 5 will show their new game, will blow everyone pants off. Release date 2016 worldwide
-Some TLG stuff
-Gravity Rush 1HD+2 packaged together for PS4. It looks amazing but doesn't blow everyone pants off
-The Yakuza team are working on Shenmue 3, makes Yu Suzuki's version non canon. It is also a Miku spinoff
-Dragon Quest guy comes out, shows pretty DQ 11 stuff
-Bandai Namco comes out on stage to reveal they are changing their name back to Namco Bandai like it should be
-Bloodborne expansion is about an evil forest, launching in late October/November
-Shu comes out, reveals new AAA game from Japan studio. It is a rhythm gaming starring every character to star in a PlayStation game ever.

These are the guys who sold GOW 3 HD for $40. No way they'll sell these 2 together.

-Snip-

For sure.

The games being announced so far ahead of release can be disappointing but at the same time it was very much necessary for companies like SE to do, after losing so much good will last gen. And it has worked out wonderfully for them, people are talking and are super excited.

Really hope that Sega and Capcom are also able to create such a positive outlook soon as well. They have a ton of great IPs at their disposal.

Yep.

And Quantum Break. That's the only AAA title, aside from Uncharted 4, from back then yet to release. It's crazy.

I'm envious of FPS and open world fans though. How great must it be if you're big fans of these genres right now?

You get Call of Duty every year. You also get many other FPS games like Battlefield, Wolfenstein, and Destiny. For open world fans, they basically have everything. The entire world is in their hands because lots of games are going that route. Then they have Rockstar releasing big AAA open world games.

I could only wish I had that many titles for my preferred genres. I just can't...

This is why I wait for Uncharted. My time will come.

No Man's Sky :)

No Man's Sky :)
That was announced in 2013 too, wasn' it?

On a more Japan note, I think the way forward there now is to try and help developers to become more open. There's a mentality over there where they're quite closed off, and afraid of sharing knowledge. To some extent, I understand that, but it'd be a lot easier to get everyone moving a few steps forward if there was the kind of sharing of technical knowledge like there is in the west. It's a pretty crucial time now, since a lot of those companies need to develop their positon in their market. A lot of change is happening over the next decade.

As for games made in Japan, I wonder if anyone remembers Eternal Champions? It was a fighting game. It wasn't very good, but back then, I guess I managed to somewhat enjoy lots of things. Also, another old school game I wouldn't mind seeing come back is something like Dino Crisis. There was lots of crazy stuff back in the day. We're honestly due a dinosaur action/adventure game.

Just thinking about all the announcements made, Kens reveal in SFV, I almost want to shed joyful tears. This Gen is pretty much wrapped up for me, PS4 is going to be on everyday for years to come. In fact, I don't even need Sony to have a bunch of surprises, just updates on games already revealed. Such promise in a lot of titles, already.

The Witness
No Mans Sky
The last Guardian
Gravity Rush pS4
Tearaway Unfolded

I mean wtf? Is Sega making a new Virtua Fighter??!! Capcom making a new DmC or MH spinoff for PS4/Vita?!! Level 5 Jrpg? SE making a studio called Rpg factory. Sony trying another Legend of Dragoon scale Jrpg??!! don't even need anymore hype. All that has to happen is the games need to be good. This is the real HD Gen, I couldn't be more hyped right now. And we don't even know what GT7 is gonna look like. What sucker punch is doing. What quantic dream is doing. What Sony Bend and Santa Monica are doing. Is Jenova Chen making another Sony game??!

This year, its too much. Ps2.0 is back baby, and I can't wait to jump the fuck in.

Until Dawn and MGSV leading the charge. And you know what screw the haters, I am Liking the Order!

Wow I forgot about this. Ok, I'm excited then.

Where's that gaffer that leaked all the info about this years ago?
Yeah, where is that guy? What a dick he was.

It's funny you mention PS2. I think PS2 has the best games library just in terms of sheer variety of good and great games. It's really ridiculous. But my favourite system is the PS1 because it introduced me to many of my favourite franchises, such as Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Tekken etc. I used to think it's going to be impossible for me to really like another game franchise again the way I liked MGS or FF, until Uncharted 2 and 3 came along. Now that's kind of shot up there too.

If there's one thing I really, really want from the current generation of consoles, it's to play a new IP that has that kind of impact on me, and becomes one of my favourite franchises. Granted, none of the above mentioned have been entirely consistent in pleasing me (except Uncharted so far), but they have enough entries which were some of the best games I've ever played.

That's really what I want. I've realised that I'm a lot more picky now when it comes to games, but to have another game which just clicks with me would be incredible. I feel there's a few that could do that, but it's just a matter of waiting and seeing.

999 was a good surprise recently. If the sequels are as good as the original, I imagine I'll be quite satisfied with discovering such a gem of a series. But those are quite different from traditional games.

Can't wait for all the new JRPG announcements.

Your name and avatar combo have just reminded me how awesome it would be if a new Doko Demo Issho game or anything starring Toro got announced at this thing. That's a world class mascot gone to waste if ever I've seen one.

Agree. Toro is a PlayStation legend. And I hope SCE Japan Studio will make another standalone Toro game as soon as possible. Well, a cat can dream.

I want a Puppeteer Remaster, that game came out at a really bad time. It came out a week before GTAV and people looking forward to the next generation. So it was forgotten and more people should play it.

Yeah, where is that guy? What a dick he was.

yea last Gen really wasn't for me with all the focus on shooters, casual experience with motion control and Minecraft. All meh to me, but I think with Japan realizing they don't have to imitate the west in order to create compelling software that's profitable, hoping we see some real gems out of that side of the development world.

I'm definitely more picky now, still trying to finish TR, really can't see what the fuss is about, but I know compelling storytelling is almost a must for me. In fact the only games I love that doesn't really revolve around story is SF and GT, from the AAA space at least. So I hope more mature themes keep being tried, and we really push the medium to be up there with the Oscars in storytelling, while at the same time innovating and keeping up engaged with gameplay. Really bummed it seems Kojima chose one over the other in MGSV.

On a VERY realistic personal perspective, I'd be happy if the conference will have Ys VIII footage.

If I wanted to be more hopeful, I'd like to see a pair of two/three mid tier announcements for Vita (like last year's Estival Versus and the aforementioned Ys VIII)

And finally, for the DREAM section, I have:

- Gravity Rush 2 for Vita (Everybody's been hoping/speculating it's PS4 only, but my wish will be eventually crushed only when I see it with my own eyes)
-FFXII HD Vita , which is ironically far more likely than GR2 at this point lol.

Is sony going to show up with any indies at the conference? Dont remember if there were any last year.

There are some very cool ones coming from japan.

I also forgot one last Bold Prediction!
FF XII HD is announced but is never released. They then proceed to bring out every Square Enix employee and say " fuck your neogaf" in every language.

How much do you feel UE4 has helped Japanese development over the last 2 or so years?

Vergil for main character please.

Yes please

Man I wish it's Winter already, so we could have our first proper look at FFVIIR. I really need to know how it's battle system going to be like.

But I'm still very excited for this presentation. So many titles I'm looking forward to!

I highly doubt you're getting a proper look at FFVII in the winter. You're getting "more information".

Muse: Together is the New Alone. That is one very cool looking game. Look forward to hearing more about it.

I forgot who it was, it might have been shinobi, but a year or so back, I remember one of the insiders said there was a PS4 port happening. I wonder whatever happened to that.

Probably would've done better as a launch title.

I hope it is true, it was an amazing game. I agree it should have been a launch title, it would have spiced up the game selection. Fingers crossed for TGS.

Have you heard anything about a possible GT7 reveal for later this year?
