3DS Customization Thread | For the Love of Nintendo...

I didn't even check the shipping since it's 5 euro more, I'm hoping that amazon fr will have it in stock. 38 Euro shipping to canada is too much, at least amazon de shipped 3 cover plate for 15 euro.

Hopefully amazon fr will have it in stock or restock it (and allow international shipping).

So I was under the impression the 3DS XL couldn't have its cover plates changed. But today I got an e-mail from PlayAsia with links to these:

It claims to be compatible with the LL/XL but I've searched online and haven't found a single thing about replacing the top cover for the XL (I know you can replace the bottom cover). Could someone explain to me what I'm seeing here? Is it actually possible to change the LL/XL top cover and use the top half of these cover sets or would I really only be buying a lower half cover? I'd love to DBZify my 3DS XL =/

Edit: Aaaah, nevermind, I get it now. Hard Covers that go over, like a shell, for your 3DS XL. Stupid PlayAsia e-mail confusing me and listing it as new Plates.
 
Those are clip on covers. They go on top of the 3DS XL. If you look at the monster hunter one you can see a black XL underneath it.
 
Can anyone link me on some decent N3DS pouches? It seems like there isn't much of them at all, and most of them look fugly, while N3DSXL gets really nice ones :/ I wonder why is that
 
I'm kinda peeved the regular 3DS in North America does not come with the blank default plates.

Anyone willing to part with yours? Preferably white?

Technically Europe's first n3DS didn't come with blank plates either.

Ambassador and the additional Smash plates (which are still not available to buy separately*)

*In Japan you can, but they are technically different since they sport the Japanese Smash logo.
 
Yeah I'd be more than willing to trade both the Isabelle plates and the (bundle exclusive?) HHD plates for one set of the white plates. I'll even pay money for it on top of the trade (nothing crazy though)

If I go through with the order anyways. Though I most likely will... used to have a JP unit and it was glorious but I missed having the NA firmware so much that I sold it and bought a US XL (which is still great, but...). Now here I am, going to sell that XL for the NA regular (after transfer)... oi.
 
I imagine the plain white cover plates are something you'd be able to get through Nintendo's online store eventually. They sell replacement battery covers for the XL so hopefully they add the original white plates too... later on of course, nothing there yet.

The extra plates aren't bundle exclusive, they're the Japanese HHD plates that came out at the end of July. They could certainly be exclusive in the US, though.

Ah. I thought they were bundle exclusive everywhere! (At least in Japan)

I know that some other LEs there had bundle exclusive plates so I thought HHD would have been the same. Thought I had some real good trade bait there, guess not. :p

Still, if anyone is willing to part with their white faceplates, PLEASE let me know.

There are a few that went up in price for a bit; the runs seem pretty limited in Japan so if you miss preorders on the newer ones you'll often have to pay $5-10 more. It fluctuates, especially now with Europe (and maybe the US!) in the game. I haven't seen any as pricey as Boo, though. I imagine the Docomo Mario plates will get there if they aren't already.
 
I'm looking for recommendations for the best grip for the New 3DS. I have this one for my 3DS XL Poptart.

The closest thing I have found is this silicon shell but it's opaque white. Surely everyone doesn't go around exposing their beautiful cover plates to the elements?!

The Zelda ones did increase before/shortly after they released it but it went down as soon as they reprinted/released more stock. Afaik they haven't reprinted the boo plate. I hope they do though.

I think you can only get it through nintendo japan's online store but from the post above it seems like it will be difficult to get. There are other "plain white" from some 3rd party amazon jp seller but it doesn't look like it will match.

Nintendo has a some nice looking cover plates for the white n3ds, why not get one of those or you can get a decal perhaps.

Six months ago I actually couldn't decide between the two colors, but I eventually imported a black european model (I'm an American). I've come to love the way that it looks with my faceplates!

Now the New 3DS is finally being released in America, and white is the only option. I jumped at the chance to preorder it, but I can't help being nervous that I'm suddenly going to decide I hate the white.

Some faceplates will look better on the black model, others on the white model. I went black because I wanted the wooden plates, which I think look better on black. Then you get plates like these:

Which obviously won't look as clean on the black model. Honestly, glancing over it, I think there are more plates that will look better on the white N3DS.

IMO: I think the black one looks nicer, it has cover plates that looks great on it BUT there are more cover plates that looks nicer on the white one.

depends entirely on the cover plates you're buying. some obviously look better on black, some look clearly better on white, some look great on either.
 
So Nintendo Japan has an online store for spare parts (just like NoA's store) and they sell white and black cover plates on there. As far as I know this is the only place where you can buy them. Before I go through the whole process can anyone confirm or deny whether they ship to forwarding services like Tenso? I sure hope so...

e: fuck it, put an order in with the Tenso address. Hopefully, everything works out.
 
Remember when we said the great thing about cover plates is that it removes that element regret that you missed out on a special edition because you already have the system…
 
My problem with cover plates is that ever since I bought the wood plates, I don't want to switch them out anymore. It just feels so nice. The wood texture is so comfy.

I'm still sporting the blue gingham plates which is the first set I bought. Simple and clean.
