R. Mika's popularity in Street Fighter is baffling

Look at the other Street Fighter V characters.

I would be more baffling if she didn't fit in with the rest of the cast, but she does.

Also, puroresu

No fun train pulling in the station here!

R. Mika is a cool character, man. You seem kinda grouchy.

Of course I'm grouchy. Birdie has been the only character revealed that I actually liked. If the rumours I've heard of Alex, Urien, and Karin being playable are true, this roster will be terrible for me.

It's the ironic generation. Nobody played R.Mika. Now she's cool because she was a shitty character that nobody liked.

People probably like her now because she's completely different. Just like most of the characters.

Y'all need to keep up with SFV more.

What kind of characters do you like? I mean, at some point, the cast doesn't matter because they are avatars for playstyles. That's how it's always been in fighting games. Mika, Birdie, Vega, Bison, even Ryu and Chun are playing out different. Nash too. The focal point shouldn't be on "who can I mash with" but "who's got a fitting style of play for me".

I can't speak to her moveset or fanbase but I think it's great they are calling some niche characters back into action.

Hopefully the gameplay designers give her some love.

How come no one is bringing up this sexy ass beast. You ask me, I think some people had heart attacks when they saw this specimen today. He's showing more skin than she is.

As a straight male I gotta say... Ryu looks absolutely amazing with that beard.

Sometimes people get tired of eating the same god damn thing every day. Like when I go to the chow hall. Every week is the same shit. Chicken breast and salad for me.Sometimes I want to try something new or revisit an old dish that I haven't had in a while. That's why I'll try the Mongolian cuisine line or have cheeseburger from time to time. Because eating chicken salads everyday gets pretty flippin old.

As a non-SF person and spectator, I liked what I saw in her trailer. Yeah she's revealing a lot of skin but it doesn't seem too sexualized. She looks powerful!

I've never liked her outfit. It doesn't even evoke any pro-wrestling outfit I've ever seen. Instead it looks like lingerie, especially when it used to have hearts — the frills and the thong just looks awkward as hell. It could be revealing without looking like it was bought from a sex shop.

Her fighting style seems dope though, especially the non-fanservice-y moves.

And I can never bring myself to object to this:

she literally has a move where she and her equally busty friend smother her opponent with their asses

It's a female character thats proportionately thick and has (maybe a bit oversized) assets to match her body design. Of course it's gonna gather attention from normal and/or thirsty gamers. Whats new?

By your post, OP, we outta have a civilized discussion about Chun's thigh and boob size ratios vs her waist. /s

op will have a meltdown with this one too

EgazgW9.jpg

Well there it is. Try not to hyperventilate OP.

I never saw her as a titilating character at all, I saw her as a comedy character. Cammy as a design is all about T&A much more than Mika imo.

This discussion about her being exploitative is all very alien to me and seems a completely new phenomena that came about with her announcement in SF5. I chalk it down to a load of hot air from fans of the series who resent her inclusion as a representative of the lighter humorous side of the series and who are probably more eagerly awaiting the arrival of legitimate, serious macho fighting characters in the series and not just half-naked eye candy... like Urien for example who's glistening bare chest and taut bulging frame covered only by the tiniest wisp of cloth are much more fitting to the series.

Here's another shot of her. Her waist is not itty bitty.

And no actual woman on this Earth looks like this? None? Nowhere? Maybe there isn't but I find that hard to believe. Also, it's a fighting game, most of her fans likely care about her movset more than anything. Anyone who likes her specifically for her looks probably isn't a serious fighting game fan.

There are Marines on this base at various gyms that have bodies just like her's. I mean exactly like her's. And they are freakin strong. There are HITT gym instructors that have the same physique. I guess she just looks normal to me because of the environment I work in.

I like R.Mika because I'm a wrestling fan and her moveset looks amazing. Take away the exposed ass (which I don't think is necessary) and she's basically a Joshi wrestler. And the "male gaze" stuff doesn't really fly with me, since I'm not into women.

On the subject of which...

Well hello, Ryu.

When I was a little kid playing Alpha 3 I thought the fact that she summoned a wrestling ring for her super was the coolest thing ever. Sure the outfit is cheesy, but as a kid who was a wrestling fan and loved Street Fighter I always thought Mika was cool. She feels more like a wrestler than Zangief does. I'm glad she's back.

Wow. Even back then I didn't care for her "sexiness" and to be quite honest, I really didn't think she was sexy at all back then or even now. I just see a female wrestler who's over the top and loud that actually looks built/thick like a wrestler, not some hourglass model fighter from DoA. Her coming back is great and seeing her improved and more awesome moveset is a bonus, I'm glad to have a female grappler back again after a long wait. Also comparing R.Mika to the DoA Girls and SC girls is just lol. I don't mind them at all but I think you need to look back at some DoA costumes or even SCIV Ivy again since R.Mika's costume is nowhere close to many of those.

This "buh nuh uh played hur" argument needs to eat shit already

First statistics pulled out of your ass aren't info. Second that rules out a bunch of other alledgedly "good picks" - who the fuck played Q is just as "good" an argument. And lastly fans of other characters don't have to justify why they want them in the game so why the fuck do Mika fans owe anyone jack shit?

Its fine if you personally aren't a fan OP but I feel the vast majority of the statements you made in the OP are in serious need of a citation. Lots of assumptions and projections out the wazoo.I'm also not seeing how Mika is tiny waisted or whatever from her art or 3D model. Shes around 5'5"/5'6" and just over 150lbs. That's the right height/weight range for many female real-life wrestlers.

I've never liked her outfit. It doesn't even evoke any pro-wrestling outfit I've ever seen. Instead it looks like lingerie, especially when it used to have hearts — the frills and the thong just looks awkward as hell. It could be revealing without looking like it was bought from a sex shop.

It's not really that far off from what is typically worn in Japanese Joshi wrestling. Maybe a little exaggerated as SF costumes tend to be.

Her old fighting style was alright, but her new moveset is amazing.

However I agree with you. Her current costume is hit or miss with most people but what if she had a UFC / MMA fighter like costume, where it's just shorts and a sports bra? She'd be showing just as much if not more skin, but would people still take issue with it?
Or is it the thong like aspect of her outfit that causes much of the issue, like Cammy's?

Is it really that surprising, though? I mean,...honestly? C'mon, you know why she's popular.

Me? Well I appreciate those assets yeah, but her actual moveset in V looks quite inspired. She looks like a fun character to play with, especially in the hands of a pro player. I don't care where she falls on the tier list; a fun-to-play with character is always worth having in the roster.

op will have a meltdown with this one too

I can't bite my bottom lip hard enough. And this is her actual alt? Looks great!

I can't play a character I don't like. I know that sounds pretty lame to seasoned FG players but it's the truth. The perfect mixture of personality and gameplay is what gets me to main people.

Back in SFIV I played as Rufus and Adon because I loved their personalities AND their playstyles. Since they're likely not coming back, I've been pretty down about SFV tbh.

In SFV, I like Chun Li and Vega as characters, but I'm not a fan of their movesets as they are a little too defensive for my tastes. Birdie seems like the only kind of character that fits the mold of someone I'd enjoy playing as. If I sounded salty in the OP, that's probably because I am. I loved SFIV, and it feels like I'm gonna be left in the dust for this game. It's petty I know, but it's a frustrating feeling since everyone around me is celebrating so hard.

One of my favorite characters in ALpha 3 and in SF period. It has nothing to do with her being designed for the "male gaze," or whatever. In fact, her personality was so childish and bubbly that it's difficult for me to see her as sexual at all.

Fuck all you people that can't get that people like different things and try to make others feel bad for liking the things they do.

I was going to reply, but this works for me.

thats pretty much the SF hardcore fanbase , Almost any character that hasn't been in an SF game in a long time rises in popularity polls.

Once Karin,Alex,Urien,Q and Mika are in and the rest of the SF4 cast get in via DLC. Watch how top requested characters for the next SF game will be Maki,Ingrid,Eagle,Juli,Juni,Twelve,Necro.

Before the whole Mika...etc requests it was filled with characters like Poison,Elena,Rolento who got in to SFxT and before them it was Ibuki,Dudley,Guy,Cody who got in to SSF4.

TL ; DR long time returning characters are popular.

You do know that there will be character DLC right? and theres a chance Adon or Rufus can can back?

I like Chun Li though. Even if she's not wearing much clothes in a costume, she's still a great character. Mika on the other hand... ya, not so much. She's pretty empty honestly.

Nope. Even less so in 5.

Edit: and come on chunli is a generic revenge story character

She's a pretty bad character IMO (and her hair looks stupid in 3D). But hey, she apparently has fans along with an original moveset, so it's okay in the end as long as we get more non-half-naked blondes. Like Karin for example <3 Reveal the superior Alpha girl already.

Also, yeah, Ryu is pretty hnnng. I say they should give him an Ultra where he smashes your head against his perfect abs :P

This stance makes it even more bizarre that you would say that people didn't play her because she sucked. What about the people that play characters JUST BECAUSE THEY LIKE THEM?

Like me. I go by looks and fighting style and don't give a shit about tiers. Mika was a really quick, hella mobile grappler with awesome personality. After she wins she puts a fucking tire on and does more training. That's how hardcore she is.

Fuck this, going to play Alpha 3 now since I can't play Mika yet.
