Halo 5 Opening Cinematic

I love how, from the Halo 5 splash screen to the Xbox One advertisement, it's all one shot. Not cuts, no shaky cam. Just one clean, single shot.

Did the Elites forget to grind or something? I know Master Chief's taken them out a bunch of times, but I never got the impression he did it effortlessly. These Cov forces got clowned on, jesus.

Need to watch it at home, I assume it's very cliche and hollywood movie like? Hope I'm wrong!

I mean it's halo.... A couple cyborgs vs evil space aliens... If you're expecting something oozing with originality, you'll be disappointed...

But if you like good action, you've come to the right place...

The more I watch the video the worse it becomes...I liked it at first, but now. These "Spartans" are way too sterile for me and this whole sliding-down-the mountain thing just....dunno.

Hope the game will be good.

*off to play some good old Halo 1

...
Seriously, what happened? Those designs are beautiful. Exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping to see in Halo 4.
...

Because all but 2 of those pictures are of Forerunner soldiers rather than Prometheans, they're more like AI constructs than a living being.

They missed the opportunity to have the intro played as a spartan team sliding down a mountain shooting shit all around on a sunset ? Like journey but with a shotgun

Now to look for the details...?

Based off of the population densities of favelas, that impact would have killed thousands if not tens of thousands.

ALSO WHY DOES THE UNSC HAVE FAVELAS IN THE 26th CENTURY WTF

Good point. I think it's the music that fucks up everything for me. I miss the old theme.

It also looks a hell lot like the opening scene of Avengers 2

FWIW the 'monks' are back.

If the entire game is like this bombastic idiotic heroism (which I love) then we have a problem. We shall see. As it is, hypppeeeeee

Probably a lot of refugees/hurried rebuilding after the Human/Covenant War, and not enough resources and space to put everyone up properly. I don't think any Halo game other than Reach has actually concerned itself with the impact on the civilian population that giant space wars naturally bring, but I'd wager most people playing the games aren't that concerned by Halo's lore.

That's a lore-based reason, not a practical one, and 343 controls the lore. They could have done whatever they wanted with Halo's art direction, and they chose to go with the confused and garish Forerunner aesthetic we see in Halo 4. It's a damn shame.

This animation movie is for you:

I'd forgotten about this movie. Treasure Planet is my jam.

Cautiously hyped after that.

As someone who always thought there was a disconnect between the books and games in terms of presenting Spartans as Super Solidiers, this trailer made me smile.

That said, it does raise the question of whether or not 343 can deliver in the gameplay department, and I worry that the cinematic is a bit too OTT and the gameplay does not hit the same bar.

Especially bearing in mind that Guardians campaign is going to live or die by the squad AI (IMO) - this has me a bit torn - if the AI is up to snuff (hopefully Tim Longo's Republic Commando experience helps here), and the mobility gameplay enhancements flow well then Guardians could be something special. If not... could be a clusterfuck!

Some other observations
+ Music - I might be more hyped for Jinnouchi's OST than the game!!
+ Great CG work
+ After a few watches, it's clear that Osiris is NOT simply obliterating a Covenant ground army; this army was already under Orbital attach and dealing with opposing Covenant ground forces (Arbiter?). Osiris is constantly on the move and only engage enemy forces when necessary. So I don't think it's as OTT as the initial watch suggests...

- It does evoke some Avengers vibes

One thing I'm thinking - a lot of people have noted that Locke is a flat emotionless character, with no personality. I'm guessing that he's got a story arc and we will see the character grow, and the Master Chief's state of mind at the end of Halo 4 might have something to play in that arc, just possibly. I hope so anyway!
I noticed the cutscene has some cinematic versions of a couple of the new and sort of lame looking in-game actions like the ground slam and charging through rocks. Which only adds to my suspicion that the campaign is going to have lots of opportunities to use these features shoehorned in. We'll see.

Covenants look so weak on this video...But i dont remember them like that

They were darker, tough enemies...This is not good

Looks pretty good.

I do think that they probably are bingo on ammo now. But damn the music and the scale of the cinematic gives me a good feeling =D.

PS.
I freaking missed Buck haha

Why's "Forerunner Activity" the correct way as opposed to the rest of the screen?

Because the briefing panel is 360°, and the titles have a static ad reverse title so the viewer can have a quick idea of what each panel contains as it spins around before it gets to them. And it just looks cool haha.

what have they done to halo :|

They are finally brining the games up to speed with the superhuman Spartan strength and ability that they have in the novels.

They really need to make a big budget Halo movie. No need for live action - if cinematics in a computer game look this good, imagine what they could produce in a dedicated CGI Halo movie...

I remember seeing a golden elite among the enemies on legendary....then running the hell away.

The fact is that John-117 doesn't play in Legendary.
In fact, Spartans are far better than Elites. Especially when Elites are occupied by another opponent. Spartans come to their back, and crush them in a single punch.

Fact is. I didn't read the books, I only played the games where John-117 does play on legendary, providing me with some of the finest gaming moments I had in my life.

I am happy that they've decided to follow the books an that this is good for many of the books' fans, but I'm none of them. I am a fan of the games.

For those saying the Covenant felt too easy, isn't this a 3 way fight with Prometheans thrown in also? Looked like the Covenant was fighting the Prometheans and then these 4 Spartans showed up wrecking shit in between.

Yes, you're right. Also you can spot some bulky Halo 4's Prometheans.

Really cool but everything looks so weightless. Spartans look like they're floating over the landscape, running on air. Makes it look very silly :(

Also the spartans are normally way more tactical in the books(only read 4 so far). Cheif/Kurt/Fred always seemed to plan things out a bit more thoroughly before they went jumping into massive fights. I guess that's just not conducive to the medium.

Music 10/10 though.

There are "tactical" operations and then there are "we need to get on that planet through this small scale war down there" operations.

They are probably using their jet-packs for combat skills, hence the floating in the air. Would be damn cool if you can use that in gameplay.

I have been seeing this all the way through the thread and it seems crazy to me that a military unit comprised of absolute combat specialists (buck was an ODST, the guys who make marines shine their boots), in armour that increases their reaction time into picoseconds and allows them to do shit that would make batman cack himself, wouldn't be able to drop into a situation assessing the tactical requirements on the fly and execute them without any drama at speeds that make it look easy. This looks like a well trained, slick, insertion crew doing their thing and it doesn't make their enemies any weaker, it just underlines how good the team are.

All of that plus, they are just trying to get through. Thus not killing/destroying everything on the path.

It's not really Halo though, is it?

Except it really is...

This is the type of things Spartans have been doing all along... If your read the novels... Except now they have better suits...

I'm baffled that anyone would suggest otherwise... Sure they were 'tactical' when the situation calls for it... But they were always great at using their enhanced reaction time to handle stressful situations on the fly...

for me halo was always that 1 guy against the universe, that sense of being a badass and that everyone knew not the mess with you, also the fact that you were the last spartan alive, it made it even more cool but that magic for me it is lost, will get for MP but what i always enjoyed the most in halo were the campaigns and this seems to take an ever crazier turn than halo 4 did

He never was the last spartan alive though. He wasn't even the only one on the Pillar of Autumn. Linda was in cryo as well.

Real elites as I know them would have clotheslined one of those spartans and screamed into his face before trying to kill, all I can see in that intro is bigger sized grunts being slaughtered.

Modern halo is upsetting to me, story wise.

Fuck book lore. For the purposes of the actual games themselves, it was all about the Chief being a lone wolf legend.
