Halo 5 Opening Cinematic

There's Covenant in Halo 4? Which is my point. They should've stayed Forerunner only.

Why? 343 could have added a whole bunch of new aliens on top of the Forerunners and they're would have been just as much complaining. I still loving fighting grunts and elites. I do like having new enemies though, hopefully 5 has some in store.

They look to have thankfully got rid of those knights in 5 which is good. Having the covies is nice, and it never gets old fighting elites imo. I only wish that they would go back to fully armoured elites like in Halo 3. I dont like the bareskinned designs that 343 have.

I know I definitely would've been far more engaged in Halo 4 if they made new Forerunner tiers. I remember seeing Covenant in that initial Halo 4 reveal at E3 and my eyes glazed over immediately.

Check again. There are knights all over most of the media in Halo 5 since E3. There are a few of them in the opening cinematic to boot.

I hope Master Cheif beats the shit out of them

-snip- - removed because of my mistaken interpretation of PDC's quote

+1
#teamchief

I hope that the next two months are focused on Chief. We've seen a lot of Locke and his team.

The lack of Chief scares me :(. I don't want emphasis on Locke. Give me Chief! :(

That was absolutely beautiful, holy fucking balls. Could possibly be one of the best things ive ever seen.

Truly hoping Chief rolls in there like a freak of nature, and drop kicks Locke right in the grill.

#Teamchief baby!

What I got from the video :

-Locke is smug and robotic and is afraid of using his face to convey emotion.
-snip-

What's up with Locke though? The pizza i'm eating has more personality than him.

Is he really that much of a stick in the mud?

He gives Palmer a run for her money from what I've seen so far. I don't understand why 343 continually creates characters who continue to be as interesting as paint drying on the wall with overly self righteous attitudes and bugs up their asses.

Thought that was pretty weak.

1. There was a weightlessness to the action as they floated down the side of the mountain in unison;
2. Making your characters calm as ice / as excited as if they're reading a newspaper doesn't make them seem better, it makes the action seem less consequential;
3. If you constantly have to use characters other than your iconic one to inject human intrigue into the story / cutscenes then you have a problem with your main character. Where was the Master Chief?

I'll be honest, though - the Halo universe has never interested me, even when I loved the series from a multiplayer point of view. I think it's poor. Nothing I saw here would change that.

— here I'd counter that if your story is entirely dependent on a single character, then that itself is a problem and 343 bringing more characters to expand the story is actually the right move.

Sigh, looks like chief is taking the backseat after all

343 should just have Locke's team running around fucking shit up, looking unstoppable, and then they run into Chief and get wrecked.

343i are doing a great job of hyping Team Osiris.

But us Blue Team supporters know how any potential (fair) fight between Mark IIs and this group would end.

I was gonna tag some of the DBZ power level debating earlier for Spartan II, III & IV's but meh. Instead I am here sensiblechuckle.gif -ing over people feeling that Osiris punching a hole to an objective through a fight that seemed to already be in motion before they got there.

For all the gaffers that think its unreasonable/doesnt fit within the universe, did you forget that you spent the majority of the previous Halo games as a **single guy** who tore through enemies repeatedly?

Edit: part two

Knights are in the game. They are also in Warzone as well.

Oh shit... What complete with those fucking watchers?? I liked the look of the soldiers in the E3 demo. I was hoping that the teleporting bullet sponges were gone. Oh well, not the end of the world.

Hm... it was okay to watch. But for me nothing special, I didn't feel like Halo. Some random strong guys shooting and jumping.

Well he's half right. There should have been no Covenant and there should have been even better designed new foes that evolved the Covenant battles while introducing fresh foes.

When I fired up Halo 4 after being on media blackout and discovered that the myserious adventure I imagined at end of Halo 3 approaching the sphere was more covenant my heart legit sank.

Of course then I got to fight the new Promethean foes and to be fair wanted the covenant back because they were better designed foes even if they were also old hat (and also an enemy fully resolved at the end of Halo 3).

The fact that there's still a covenant to fight makes plenty of sense, and it's a point that appears will be better explained in Halo5.

The Arbiter doesn't represent all of the covenant... He doesn't even represent all of the elites... Just because the Arbiter agreed to a truce with Humans doesn't mean the countless other alien factions are so kind...

The majority of the covenant we fight in Halo4 still hold the Forrunners as god's despite MC and Arbiter proving otherwise... And so, they still want Humanity obliterated... Oh and their leader doesn't believe any of the religious shit... He just pretends to because he absolutely despises humanity and needed the religious nuts as allies..

Yes, it's stupid that none of this was explained in game... But just like in real life, politicians signing a peice of paper doesn't erase decades of bloody hatred...

I'll be honest - I hate this. I am single player only for Halo. I have zero interest playing as any other character other than master chief.

I don't like what 343 is doing with the series.

Playing other major characters besides Chief isn't exclusively 343's doing, nor were they the first ;)

Kazuma Jinnouchi already killing it with his score. Great cinematic! Over the top completely but I dig it regardless.

Been kinda cold on Halo 5 and the info dropped but this has brought it up a notch.

Could you in any way come to terms that some of the core values of Halo have changed, and end up liking the new values? Same thing as I said to Hubble:
Yea, well put. There's then two types of developers: ones that add and make changes to make it more accessible, and ones that continue the legacy, like CS GO, and hope that players find value in those core aspects that have been static for the entire series. Unfotunately for some, 343i is the former kind of developer. That's just it, you either like their new direction or don't. Is it possible to still enjoy the new game with it's new set of values? Halo is no longer the same Halo, but is the new Halo a good game, even though it's no longer the same Halo? Could one come to terms with the change of direction and end up liking the new game based on it's new set of values and not old? I think so. Like I said about BO3, I'd rather have MW1, but I still like it enough on it's own.

Playing solo, the only other character you would be playing as is Locke. Did you not like what Halo 2 or ODST did?

What about The Arbiter in Halo 2? I mean, playing him was a significant portion of the game. [EDIT: Beaten like the original Covenant.]

I liked this cinematic and I believe this dual narrative type of campaign has huge potential. Of course, we will see what 343 did with it but personally, from the story level, I liked the campaign of Halo 4 the most, so I'm optimistic. I mean, the interactions between The Chief and Cortana in H4 were something absolutely special.

You asked, me a couple of posts above, why I say "It didn't feel like Halo". You sort of provided the answer for me in this post. It is difficult for me to explain, but it feels like a lot of those elements/values which I connect to Halo, have changed. I know the series needs new fresh ideas, but the direction feels different from what I like about Halo.

Anyway, I am still looking forward to this one and of course I will give it a chance, because I am also fair, when someone tries something different.

Definitely trying to wash the lame taste of Halo 4 away, but it's just too bad the actual gameplay combat won't feel this kinetic. Did the Elites and Knights lose their energy shielding or did Spartan weapons get a huge boost in power? Nitpicking aside, nice opening.

Possibly. This is just my initial impression.

I did not. Didn't like the arbiter bits and didn't like ODST as a whole.

Well there are plenty of other game franchises out there just waiting for you to play them. I for one like playing other characters within the Halo universe.
