Steam Controller trailer, $50

Using track pads to move looks like playing a mobile game, they'd have to have demo stations at best buy so we could try imt...

Is it likely that game stores may have demo stations with Steam Controllers? It sounds somewhat good to me, although I kinda wonder if people might get soured on the idea of the controller if they only have a very limited experience of one in a store when in takes a while to get used to the unusual controller design.

Intrigued by this, but from the sound of it I won't be able to ditch my traditional controller any time soon. Doesn't seem like this would work well for, say, NBA 2K16.

I'm often astonished how much people were happy to abandon d-pads in favour of analogue sticks. I suppose ten years of xbox 360 controllers were enough to make people think that d-pads were all but useless.

I read a review recently from a PS4 player struggling with VVVVVV complaining about 'tilting the stick' and responsiveness, when they had a good dpad right there.

I was really hyped for the steam controller and the steam link, but I'm having doubts now...

My PC is close to my tv, so a long HDMI cable would probably work better than the whole steamlink/ethernet connection.

I'd really like a controller for my pc games. Next year is dark souls 3 time, and this time I want to play it with a controller as intended.

Maybe it would be wiser to invest 150 € in a xbox elite controller instead of 150 € for steam controller/link.

I've never held a xbone controller so I don't know the best option for me.

It sounds like you don't need any of these things. Just get a normal X1/DS4 controller and call it a day.

Just get a standard xbone controller you'll be fine I promise. Wireless adapter comes out next month too iirc.

Agreed. Altough the Xbox elite controller seems to be a great peripheral, the premium price is not worth it in my opinion. Specially for a pc gamer that wants to play some of his games with a controller.

I believe that controller is directed towards the console FPS gamers who want to get a competitive edge.

The Elite controller will be totally worth it. I'll use it for games like Metal Gear Solid V, The Witcher III, Rise of the Tomb Raider and other console-like games, while I'll use my Steam controller for Cities: Skylines, Divinity: Original Sin and maybe even some of those console-like games as well. Nonetheless, I'm super excited about both.

I also think he should go for the Elite, instead of the standard controller, single-handedly because you can map every single button to whichever action you want to be there. And with the four buttons in the back, it'll be great, and with that textured feel.

The Xbone controller has driver issues for me in Windows 10. Some games think you're alwaysholding the r-stick down to the right, and in Big Picture Mode it won't let me access my library with it.

And I've seen other people bring up the issues as well. I don't know how big it is, but... be cautious.

Valve is generally pretty cool about these things. They could be trying to meet some internal numbers or something though? I think it sets a good precedent for their hardware sales.

Maybe they're games where the Steam controller works particularly well? (generating good word of mouth)

Rocket League is the game of the summer basically, it's good everywhere from desk environment to couch, has a big community, a competitive scene and is heading to Linux/Mac as well, so technically it can be a launch title for Steam Machines, and according to Valve plays well on the controller.

SAN DIEGO, CA - August 27, 2015 - Rocket League, the popular and critically-acclaimed sports-action title from independent game developer, Psyonix, is one of the top games of the summer. Having sold more than 1 million copies via Steam since its release last month, Rocket League is now officially heading to the SteamOS and Mac platforms later this year. To prepare for the SteamOS launch, Psyonix and Valve are immediately offering Rocket League for free to those who pre-order (or have pre-ordered) any of the Steam Hardware devices (Steam Controller, Steam Link, or Steam Machine).

Rocket League brings players a high-powered hybrid of arcade-style soccer and vehicular mayhem. Offering easy-to-understand controls and fluid physics-driven gameplay, Rocket League boasts more than 10 billion possible garage customizations and multiple match settings. As one of the best-selling titles of the year, Rocket League is already one of the top titles featured in multiple eSports leagues throughout the world and has been one of the most watched games on YouTube and Twitch throughout the summer.

"User reviews, sales of Rocket League on Steam, and its surging rise among eSports enthusiasts make it clear that the game is an absolute sensation," said DJ Powers at Valve. "In addition to being tremendously fun, our testing shows it plays brilliantly with the Steam Controller. So it was a natural decision for us to work with Psyonix and offer it to gamers free of charge when they pre-order a Steam Hardware device."

"We're extremely excited about SteamOS and Mac," said Dave Hagewood, Founder and President of Psyonix. "Our PC players have already proven how much passion they have for our game, and this is a great opportunity for us to bring Rocket League to an even wider audience inside the Steam family"

For the next 48 hours, Rocket League will be available on Steam at a 10% discount to celebrate the big news.

If being able to switch around buttons is important, then the DS4 is still a good option. It's silly to pay another 100 for a function that should be standard.

Does anybody know, if the Steam Controller includes corroborating motion-control aiming. I love the aiming in Splatoon and it would be great, if the controller can simulate the same extended accuracy.

It potentially can but hasn't been enabled by valve.

I used the 360 pad a lot on PC. I've had to make sure my adapter was plugged in and so forth. I have enjoyed it, but I've ordered the Link and the controller. I'm excited that it's finally an official Valve product for their service, but I also realize not everything will be able to utilize it.

I have an XBO controller and a DS4, but I haven't wanted to transition over yet. I was surprised I got Rocket League because I have it free on Plus and then I saw the price tag for it. It's a lot of fun and it'll be interesting how well the Steam controller works with it.

I just hope Fallout 4 works with it. That's another reason I preordered. It'll be interesting to see how well it works together.

Best rechargeable batteries money can buy right now? I've two pads on the way, so a good four pack available in the UK would be amazing.

Will the Canadians still be able to get it a month earlier as a pre-order bonus?

I think everyone who pre-ordered it before the stock went out in June will get it in October whether they live Canada or not. If you pre-ordered it afterwards you'll get it on November.

Thank you Valve for making this amazing controller!

Our Steam controller arrived. It's waaay better than the last iteration we tried. Couch RTS gaming might be possible.

@Fenrakk101 its slightly larger than an xbox 360 controller, the grips are a lot thicker

Still hoping Tommy Refenes will make a write-up again, like he had for the first version.

Have there been any extensive write-ups from these people getting them early? Seems like all I see are twitter blurbs so far, your think there would be more interest in analyzing it.
