Everyone but Miller and Ocelot should be called Quiet.

Mission 23 spoilers.

Is Eli ever going to talk? I'm guessing not...
I just did this mission...

He talks during his battle. He says "Bastard!" And "It's not over, Snake. Not yet!" His accent is very British.

It's pretty obvious who it is. I hope he speaks in cutscenes later on because his voice actor is really good, probably the best in the game so far.

Is there any way to view the mission ranking screen again for a particular mission? I can't seem to figure it out if there is...

Buddy system question for a certain character.

How does Quiet's AI work (or doesn't)? Was doing a mission and she magnetized to the first outpost I ran across even though I wasn't going to do anything there. Couldn't find a way to get her to follow me to the real outpost so she did nothing the whole mission. Do I just need to level her bond up more?

On the Side Ops, most of the completed ones are greyed out, but some are able to do again, 70 for example. Is there any reason to? Did I not do it right the first time?

Wondering why the game is using fictional weapons instead of real life ones like all other games did.

Costs money to license them.

Idroid -> Missions tab -> give them an order. They are more useful the more you level up the bond.

Has anyone been able to get online and make an FOB? I really want to get the
Stun Knife
for DD but it seems like you can't build it unless you have a security team. Unless you can get security team a different way?

So I finally go the Fulton upgrade to start grabbing vehicles. Does anybody know if vehicles you deploy with at the start of a mission will automatically Fulton if you get on a helicopter or do you lose them? I'm kind of afraid to test it.

Post Mission 25 spoilers

Gaaaaaaaaah
this fucking virus. Like I already figured out the pattern and quarantined accordingly, but still, there goes a third of my staff :P

Is there a shortcut for pausing a cassette? I'm sometimes out in the field listening to cassettes, and then Kaz starts talking. I end up having to quickly shuffle through the menus to pause the cassette. I wish there was a faster way to pause and play. I'm using a DS4 btw.

Idroid > mission > buddies.

Then order her where to go and what to do, she works different from other buddies.

A few pages back I heard someone say the boss fights were the worst in the series so far including MGS4. I'm baffled by that because
I just finished Quiet and that's in my top 5 mgs boss fights for sure. Kicked ecery boss in MGS4s ass.

Game is stellar up to through mission 11. I'm not a mgs narrative nut. (The cutscenes in previous game made me want to break things, but this game has a great balance). I'm actually intrigued by the story. Interested to see what happens.

You can recognize Ocelot by.....
We all know the difference. The problem is tapes where him and kaz are having a conversation, it's even worse when big boss is in the mix. They all have that bland, low voice with the same cadence etc so it all starts to blend together. Like, in the field I know it's kaz who keeps commenting every time I extract a solider. That's not the issue. It's when there are multiple characters talking back and forth it's really, really hard to tell who's who. Mostly it's Troy bakers fault for putting zero personality into the character and doing his horrible cowboy imitation that barely sounds like a cowboy half the time. It's almost like he's trying to imitate kaz in the tapes where kaz is also talking. It's annoying.

Ah, I see. Thanks. Was thinking all the buddy commands were only in the call menu, or that she'd be programmed to "leash" back to you after a certain distance.

Question about FOB: which unit members do I lose when someone invade my FOB? Only from security team or any other division that I expanded as well?

Goddamn, this should be called Metal Gear Souls, although at least in a souls game if you discover items, you keep them after dying. It's frustrating and annoying to be discovered after an hour of stealth, die, and then have to start at the beginning of the mission.

By the way, did you know that this game was directed and written by Hideo Kojima?

I finished my first boss battle. Entertaining, but not very difficult, and one of the few missions where I ranked S. I’m starting to see a pattern in the general mission structure, they don’t seem to vary beyond extract X, or eliminate Y, but the absolute freedom that you are give is very much welcomed. I’m starting to get a lot more stuff unlocked at my base, and I think I have a lead for some more story elements now.

Post Mission 10

Defeating Quiet wasn’t too tough at all. Focusing on the sound, made it fairly simple. I also unlocked DD as my buddy and know I have a lead on finding Huey. Things are starting to get interesting!

When/how do you get the ability to take Quiet out on missions?

Also, is anyone else still seriously unable to connect to the servers? I've been able to connect one time since launch.

Urgentish question: I'm about Mission 24 or 25, and it concerns soldiers on Outer Heaven:
I think the infection is by people who speak English, but is it primarily English, or secondarily English? Do I have to quarantine everyone who speaks English, or just the primary English speakers (those with three dots or their only language)

You know spoiler culture has gone too far when people complain about being spoiled by the game itself

I kinda remember playing a game where the encyclopedia entries or the loading text were referring to a big event that hadn't even happened in the game yet. I did kinda get annoyed by that.

Post mission 29 spoilers.

Code Talker is the most interesting charatcter so far, loving those cassette tapes.

Got a great voice actor too.

That's the only boss I've faced, too,
and I honestly found it pretty disappointing. Great looking boss arena, and when I got there I was so excited for another hour-long redux of The End's sniper duel, but Quiet doesn't really see you that well and the way her sniper scope glints gives her position away so easily. I think it took like seven minutes and five headshots and it was all over; I never even got spotted, let alone actually shot at.

So you don't think it's silly that the game will say "ALSO STARRING SKULLFACE AND THE SKULLS" and then try and surprise you that they are in the mission?

It was dumb in MGS4 when the opening credits had Phil Lamarr and Quinton Flynn's names in them, it's dumb here.

Ho-lee sheeeit. I just went to MB and they had a all surprise waiting. Then I realized it was my birthday, lol.

I think its a deliberate design choice

It can be shitty but I'll tell you that it forced me to play a lot differently than I've played other stealth games. I almost never reload a checkpoint now. Makes for some ridiculously tense moments. Flares and mortars, omg.

And I *love* the fact that going lethal only results in a minor point reduction. The Fulton system is enough to ensure that players will attempt to be stealthy.

Seriously, MGS5 is head and shoulders above the rest of the series when it comes to the actual game. Other entries have toyed with a sandbox/simulation but various technical issues prevented them from living up to their promise. MGS5 is a goddamned revelation.

Mission 23-on character spoilers:

Someone spoil
Eli's role
for me?
Liquid is by far my favorite character in the series and I was so hyped to see him in this game, but he hasn't talked in cutscenes so far and I'm afraid it's going to be more of a cameo, without even a confirmation of his true identity.

Aw yiss, managed to S rank mission 16.

Fultoned the truck, and then blew up those skull motherfuckers with my rocket launcher
.

I did it on my first try, too!

It took me so many tries. No, Phantom Pain, I don't want to wear the damn chicken hat.
.

The opening credits of the prologue also spoil a very interesting name.

wow yeah fuck Quiet

she just randomly killed a dude I had tagged with A+ R&D

also killed a guy as I was interrogating him

DD dispatched.

D Dog gets in the way sometimes. Just shot him in the head.

Keep playing, you'll want to. When he speaks, you'll know.

Once you get the tranq rifle she is amaaaaazing.

Awesome, this is promising

did you tell her to cease fire? If not, it's your own damn fault lol

edit: or your bond is too low and she's fucking you over on purpose. She's vindictive like that

So why are you able to play all the missions as one of your own random recruits? It's really weird, everyone still calls you Boss and acts like everything is normal even though I'm playing as Rancid Raven or whatever....

...nah dude. Opening credits are bogus, almost vain.
I like it. When I see "featuring Skullface" I get excited and want to see when it's going to come up.
It's not a surprise that Skullface is going to be in a mission. I don't feel like they're trying to surprise you. It's just a personal thing I guess. It's a lot like TV shows where the one line synopsis I the guide spoils thing that would be interesting or commercials show big reveals that happen in the show themselves. Sure it'd be cool to not have that but you're learning it in your own anyway.

You know you can tell her to cease fire right? She will automatically take anyone out if you are under alert.
So once you take her in two or three missions you level up her bond enough to purchase the tranq sniper which has made her my most used buddy in The game.
