It's a sign of the times that I intuitively played as if it had regenerating health, and didn't consciously think about it for a long while into the game.

I don't like how there's no countdown timer for combat/caution status in this game. It feel like you're idle for a lot longer in this game.

Quiet encounter

While the boss battle with her was good did anyone feel a tad underwhelmed? I did it at night (not sure if that makes a difference during the day) however it seemed relatively easy I just marked her, popped up shot and repeat. I wish it would have surpassed The End's sniping battle, but feel Quiets falls a little short

I had a lot of fun my first time through because I thought you had to tranq her to recruit her. I only had the WU pistol and a pair of NVGs.

Man, fuck
Huey
, little
bitch is responsible for most of what happens, lies about everything, then blames Snake for having to kill infected people?

Well, I'm not even waiting for all alert conditions to pass, like I did in previous games. I have not once hid under a bed or in a dumpster waiting for "normal".

I either continue my infiltration while they're on high alert, or I peace out of there for awhile and do something else. Maybe that's what the designers intend.

dear god almighty, lol I at least had my tranq sniper made at that point, I thought bringing her
health down lethally would have instantly killed her, interesting

I just listened to one cassette tape and Big Boss talked more in that single clip than in the actual game from what I've played so far.

poor weeaboo

Never thought I'd open an OT for a mainline MGS game and read a majority of the posts complaining about the lack of cutscenes. Is this the MGSV Kojima troll? After all the complaining of 1-4 and criticisms of cinematic imitation, he's completely turned the ratio on its head.

How the hell do I
spot infected staff members? The game just says "ok, we have no clue" and then also doesn't really specify if I see it in the menus or when I'm on the base running around?
(staff management burning question)

I didn't bother. My only advice would be to just keep doing main missions ASAP.

It's actually really easy if you play the tapes about it. They all have something in common.

Ikr. And the so called lack of cutscenes is HIGHLY exaggerated on here. It's just that you spend most time on the field. Then you have people who don't listen to tapes because they are pro codec and anti tapes lol. Seems like MGSV splits the fan base (keep in mind most haven't even beat the game yet). You have those stuck in the past and hate it and then those who love the evolution of the series.

Ok folks, need an honest opinion here, as I'm not sure if I should buy this game.

Background: I've played most of the MGS series, and while I appreciate a lot of what they bring to the table, I've never exactly found them to be my thing, you know? The only mainline game in the series I've beaten is 4(though I've come close on 3 and the remake of 1, but I lost interest).

The main issue for me has been the controls. They have always felt clunky and have really hampered my enjoyment of the series. I like most other things about the series(although I'm not too huge on stealth games in general).

So I guess my question is: are the controls actually decent this time around? The open world and more of an ability to shoot stuff seems like it may be up my alley, but I really don't want to get myself in the situation of buying yet another game in this franchise and realizing that it just isn't for me.

the controls are by far the best they have ever been and it's probably the best controlled stealth game ever made

game is also the most different from the series without counting spinoffs

go for it

Also when your staff starts getting full the easiest way to deal with it (while you're getting the resources for more platforms, anyway) is to just recruit people with better skills as you keep going, the bad people will get knocked out to the waiting room and you can reassign them or dismiss them easily from there.

Why are some side ops repeatable? Just for grinding?
I guess, but unless the GMP gains go way up the further I go it's easier to do the short main missions and those pay out huge. Like mission 11 is extremely short and pays out 120k, mission 17 is also very short and pays out 170k.

Or you can go super repetitive and do the Medical Bay target practice over and over where all the targets are right there and you don't even need to move and get 30k each time, unless there's a limit I don't know about. I did it like 4 times.

Just finished Mission
46
.

What an incredible game, and series... I love Hideo Kojima so much.
I can't believe Metal Gear is finally complete.
MGSV is definitely GOTY. The gameplay was superb and I'm so glad the story delivered too.

Thank you, Hideo Kojima. You are my favorite game developer of all time and I hope you get to realize more of your absolutely insane visions.

lots of people talking about epic escape with Huey on the mission he's introduced;

uhh, in my case
I think I might have had some more LZs cause by the time the Metal Gear showed up my chopper came in like right beside it and I just got in immediatly

kinda bummed that I somehow avoided what others are saying was pretty hectic? destroying it was cool tho

maybe I just got rid of all the guys before getting him too or something

goes to show the ways you can change mission outcomes and all

Just got the game tonight. Only 3 hours in. Mission 4. Did a couple side ops. I'm loving the game so far. I didn't play Peace Walker so this is all new to me.

If controls are your main worry, worry not. It's the smoothest controlling MGS game yet. Just be aware it's practically the anti-MGS4. Open world, short cutscenes, dialogue mostly via cassette tapes. It's very different but I'm sure you're aware of that already.

The sheer variety the buddies have is really impressing me. I sorta thought they'd all be useless tag-along AI partners that killed enemies occasionally, but they've ended up being hugely varied in their tactical uses. And it's nice to see their equipment upgrades and bond unlocks bringing huge changes and additions as well.

Fantastic stuff.

this feeling seriously tickles my pokemon bone

Probably just a boaster. Hunting for the best leads to a Mother Base filled with them.

Now, here's a useful tip probably almost no one would ever realise (no spoilers):

Now that you finished the game pass by the spoiler thread because the story really needs support over there.

Fuck you. Fuck mission 29. Fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck everyone.

I can't do shit. I try to kill the big guys with rocket launchers, and they refill their health.
I can't call in a helicopter. I can't do anything. Fuck this mission.

Fuck you. Fuck everything. First time I angrily turned off the system. I'm so irritated.

Fuck.

It's a sign of the times that I intuitively played as if it had regenerating health, and didn't consciously think about it for a long while into the game.

I was going to say the exact same thing. Wasn't until I entered this thread that I remembered that the other games had health bars. Amazing how that can happen, when you think about it.

And I just had a bizarre glitch related to that, two. I was surrounded by four (enemy spoilers, mission 13)
walkers who were kicking the shit out of me in cramped quarters so that everyone was clipping on each other
, but time slowed down for about 3 minutes and I could not die so long as I didn't press triangle to do first aid. So I was able to abuse this glitch to kill of all these enemies and others in slow motion, and ended up clearing out half the base, invulnerable... but very very slow.

Apparently
They can't jump onto the roof of buildings, so if you climb up the ladder near where you start you can just use an anti-armor sniper (if you have one) or a rocket launcher (Be careful not to hit the old dude) and all you need to do is dodge the rocks they throw and deal with their minor gunfire. I however just spammed them with my Rocket Launcher and finished them off with the AA turret

That (roughly mission 10-12 spoiler)
med bay
scene, though. So dumb. Fits into what I think is going on with the game, though. Kinda sucks that I figured it out after mission 2, but oh well.

This is what I thought happened to me, and I was disappointed. Then the heli door refused to open, rockets started coming over the next hill, and oh god is that... yes it is! Fucking RUUUUNNNN

Things got quite terrifying from there. It is a terrifying opponent.

This is how I ended up beating Mission 16.

I was kinda concerned about it since I read a lot of complaints about how hard it was, but it ended up being pretty cake.
I never even fought anyone. I used airstrikes to take out both tanks, had Quiet snipe the remaining foot soldiers and after triggering the Skulls cutscene, promptly backed up and got Quiet to (unsuccessfully) snipe them before figuring out that they were shambling slow enough that I could airstrike them as well. The fact that I never even got my hands dirty made it pretty fun.

It's undoubtedly the best "playing" MGS ever made. I don't know how much harder you'd be making the game for yourself by going loud every single time, but if you have no interest in stealth, all that means is you're now stuck playing an amazing one man guerrilla warfare simulator.

It's amazing. It's amazing.

Another hot tip for those that don't realise it: To set your vehicle upgrades, be sure to enter the customisation screen on the ACC so you can equip your newly-unlocked stuff. Otherwise you'll just be using stock equipment, wasting money on those upgrades.

It took me 33 hours to realise this.

The secret to beating mission 16:
If you only destroy one of the vanguards and manage to halt the target, triggering the Skull attack will make the soldiers leave their vehicles. This means you're free to use the armoured vehicle to kill them. It ends quickly.

Before discovered this, I spent over an hour skating around the map on D-Walker trying desperately shoot them to no avail. I was not prepared for heavy combat on an un-upgraded D-Walker...

...so, is there a way to get D-Dog after you've killed him? I think I ran him over with the horse at night (didn't even see him?) and I've only just found out that he kinda just randomly appears after some mission and you need to extract him.

Finished that a few days ago, but I'm right there with you pal. I absolutely hated that mission, I almost just gave up on the game right there.

Spoiler MISSION 20.

You can fulton fucking Volgin?? what ?? how? i was fighting him and he was stunned on the floor and the fulton option appear when i was near him. What? it is possible?

I think my solution was the simplest:
I drove around in a tank, blew up two of them and let Quiet kill the other two

Mission was done in a few minutes, surprisingly fun! :P

People that are struggling with
The Skulls
on mission 16
should bring DWalker as a buddy. I took them out in less than a minute!
