Rashid Confirmed for Street Fighter V

Could you give an example of what an equivalent would be that most people could understand?

Is it like naming an american character "John" or something like that? I think Rashid sounds cool as hell, personally, but I obviously don't understand the context.

Although it does sound cool, Rashid is pretty common name among the Arabs. Its also one of the given 99 names for god, it literally translates to: Guide one to the right path. The name really doesn't describe what the character is supposed to be or do. They could've given him a name pertaining to his abilities or something.

A metal owl would be cool though

I wasn't expecting him to be this cool at all. He might have competition with Vega for being my main! I was a little disappointed with Necalli, but it looks like they still have the same touch. Necalli's the perfect new character for Akuma and E Ryu fans, this dude is the perfect new character for me.

Like "of the turbulent wind"? :p

So, I'm guessing nobody thinks this Rashid character is a lazy design... a fucking guard from Aladdin. So. Fucking. Lazy.

I guess Street Fighter fans are just getting the art style they deserve. Or maybe I'm the fool for thinking that Onotroll would come up with cool characters like these

Why would they do that? Name one other Character in Street Fighter who is named after their abilities.
That's some pre-school shit.

It's common, but not Jhon's common, I'd say it's upper mid tier of the common Arabic names, something like... Frank maybe.

Are you honestly calling Goh - villain from Van Damme movie #211 - and Duck King - literally THE 90's - not lazy designs? lol

an arabic character revealed on 9/11?

hmm...

you suck. wow, i bet you think that everyone not american is arabic or a communist.

sad to see such people still existing. why are you using the internet.

man, thanks capcom for new characters.

i hate to see tons of "old" characters revealed as new ones.

i want new elements. if i want to play old stuff, i play sf third strike or ultra street fighter 4.

Here's a slightly better look at Rashid.

Is that English voice acting that I hear? I know it was in the Gamescom & PAX builds, but they never featured English voice acting in the trailers up to this point.

I love the part where he recorder turns the camera back on himself and goes "WTF?" like twice <3

The only place I've seen it tossed around is here on GAF, where bland seems to be code for "I don't like this character." I'm sure it's mentioned elsewhere too, but I don't see it as some defining trait that some are making it out to be.

In the last big character poll he placed second among characters introduced in SFIV, and in the middle of the pack amongst the entire roster so he's got a healthy share of supporters.

I just really don't care for the dismissive attitudes people have towards characters they don't care for. Fighting game rosters are so contentious already, that needlessly throwing other characters under the bus doesn't really add anything positive to the community IMO. There's characters I don't like either, but I try to refrain from tearing them down and instead focus on who I like. I'm not always successful in this, but it does make it more enjoyable IMO.

I won't deny that sometimes "bland" and "I don't like this" are synonymous but the concept of a character design being unappealing to someone because they fail to differentiate themselves meaningfully from the rest of a cast, their real world inspiration or because the design is very muted or grounded in not one without merit. Right or wrong, lord knows the KOF and VF crews tend to be slammed with this critique. I mean, why do you think Juri is bland other than you're not a fan of her? (Note I'm not critiquing your opinion and you don't even have to elaborate if you don't feel like it, just that without elaboration its easy for someone to argue its just because "you don't like her").

Unless people are being dicks about it (and its the internet so some nonzero number of people are dicks, that can't be helped) I don't think merely saying "I think this character is boring (however that is defined)" counts as tearing other people preferences down.

With regards to Abel, all I'm saying is that its not a fringe opinion. I never meant to imply its the majority opinion - just that's its not like one guy (here on NeoGaf, elsewhere online, IRL) who feels that way. That doesn't have to impact your affection for him.

Good one.

El Fuerte? lol umm

ummm Ryu? uhhhhh

Seth.

Fuerte means strong. It doesn't describe his abilities.

Ryu isn't named after his dragon punch.

Seth is named after the former community manager of capcom.
Ryu has a dragon punch

birdie's hair makes him look like a chicken
Don't make me bring Count in here to post eye roll reactions gifs at you.

Thank you for articulating this better than I did rigby

Maybe we would have gotten Cody if they had named him Rocky. Then he would have been a character with a more interesting name that reflects his abilities and he would be popular enough to be in the game.

Fucking hell, those two look like complete shit, lol. Knowing you are serious when you say they look cool makes it even fucking funnier.

Pretty sure that has been debunked. It was more of a biblical reference (Seth is the brother of Cain and Abel)

Wow so that leaked roster was actually right, guess we'll be getting Karin, Urien, Alex, and Laura then.

His animations look pretty cool and it seems like has a lot of juggle moves

Seth himself has discussed it being named after him. Either way it doesn't describe his abilities in any way.

Naming your character after their abilities is the same as naming your fucking cat Mittens cause it has white paws.

Name like عاصف = Asif? rare name and weird to translate and I think they wanted a common arab name.

Asif = Wind

Zen & Laura are confirmed legit thanks to the Ken Bogard leak. Karin, Alex, & Urien are still in question (or more specifically Alex & Urien, since they were in a post separate from Rainbow Mika & Karin), as they were part of the Siliconera leak (the guys who leaked the existence of the FFVII HD Remake). This lingering doubt is more so since recent comments by Capcom kinda threw the Siliconera leak into question.

Well, you're right about one thing -- Duck King is pretty cool.
