Rashid Confirmed for Street Fighter V

They said that we have to play story to find out where he came from? The stage in his announcement trailer and background of the official concept art were inspired by New Zealand but we don't know where it came from tho.

matt dahlgren said he's Aztec, his name is Aztec. We know where he's from brah

So on topic-
He looks good and reminds me more of Adon with Ibuki style dashes and speed. Seems awesome! I'm more interested in trying Mika of all the new (ish) characters but he seems like he could be pretty good. And I agree that his super is kind of lame looking, but we will see what happens.

Off topic-
A buddy of mine who is Arab actually detests how he looks and how "generalized" he is. So this makes me wonder how important the idea of diversity and representation is in gaming. Or more or less this one specifically. I'm personally of a Spanish background and don't really care for representation of that. But out of curiously I am mainly asking this.
If a new character came into street fighter (like someone passed "Zen" and "Laura" assuming the leak is real) and they come from your cultural background, are you more likely to use them or less or does it depend on the characters abilities and style.

Looks like a Tekken character. What happened to Capcom? SF characters used to have a great design without draw on overused stereotypes.

The serious karate man from Japan?
The fat sumo man from Japan?
The cocky military american?
The anorexic thin bald headed voddoo man of India?
The flamboyant bull fighter from Spain?
The cocky african american who ofcourse is a boxer in Vegas?
The proud and honorable indian wearing denim and a feather?
The dancing smiling black guy from Jamaica?

That's not how it works. It would be Capcorp if so.

Capcom predates Dragonball. It was named after capsule computers, which is what they called arcade machines.

I know Capcom is older than Dragon Ball though. I was just explaining the original posters logic behind what they said if they were correct.

I mean this one.

that character hasn't been revealed yet. next month, it should be a newcomer named laura

Abilities and play style come first.

Which is why I've never been interested in playing Zangief.

And now we're getting a stereotypical Aladdin man instead. O how the mighty have fallen.

More on topic though, can we even get any veterans any more? Rashid's moves basically deconfirm all of them except Dhalsim, who will be deconfirmed by Zen.

Only thing I'd change about his Super is the ending of it; he's just doing the russian dance which is dull, if he finishes it with his Falcon kick it'd be much better.

You forgot bear-man from Russia.

Yeah, the sounds the guy makes even deconfirm Dan. Pretty crazy.

Yes, I'm aware of this fact ever since his reveal when people figured out with his name. The guy said that we would know his origin when we play the story mode. They made it sound like there are more than what Necalli really is.

I would argue some of those are more trope than stereotype, but yeah. Sf has always been tropey

They just take characters from other fiction. You would be astounded if you actually sat down how many street fighters are based on other fictional folk or real people. Its a lot.

well matt dahlgren said he's Aztec so there you go.

the story stuff likely means how he's tide to the Illuminati and how he's still alive, but he's Aztec and from the Aztec empire.

You know, looking him over, he does seem a shade or two darker than actual Arab men, particularly native Emiratis. Dunno if this was intentional or not. Maybe it's just the lighting? Piggybacking off another gaffer's comment that his name is more common in Pakistan than Arab nations, maybe he's a mix of the two? Would be cool.

What a cool fucking character..... I will def be using him.

Edit: I am serious, also the super is pretty lame, I agree. Everything else is very cool.

I just noticed that this might be the first trailer where the newly revealed character isn't beating up the one revealed before him.

Arabs come in a variety of shades, depending on where they live and their family tree.

I always thought CAPCOM was just lifted from NASA:

Generally, only the Capsule Communicator communicates directly with the crew of a manned space flight. During much of the U.S. manned space program, NASA felt it important for all communication with the astronauts in space to pass through a single individual in the Mission Control Center. That role was designated the Capsule Communicator or CAPCOM and was filled by another astronaut, often one of the backup- or support-crew members. NASA believes that an astronaut is most able to understand the situation in the spacecraft and pass information in the clearest way.

Rashid: the gift that keeps giving

Why reveal him on 9/11?

Can these posts stop already?

Also am I the only one who wants to see every new character ASAP? I want to see the new designs... then afterwards see the returning fighters.

but it probably wouldnt be optimal for hype before release

Then again, knowing that Alex is the most wanted fighter back, him being revealed last would be pretty dope.
