the fact that little kid liquid and little kid mantis became weird sorta friends and they met big boss and ocelot and master miller and big boss and otacon's dad is still so hilarious

it's like that plinkett review of revenge of the sith where he's amazed that lucas didn't put in a scene where little kid han solo meets baby luke and leia

Fuck you, Rick Berman.

I think someone compared it to ff8 orphanage which I found aptly stupid. Kojima loves his contrivances.

I was like 80% sure Code Talker and Raven would be related for that exact reason.

It was funny to hear on the Bombcast, Brad saying that MGSV didn't fall into the prequel trap of constantly tying into the future/previous games.

Hey guys, there are new rumors on reddit about new content being unlocked.

ALL ABOARD THE LUST FOR, I MEAN HYPETRAIN!

the grey fox twitter guy went on some rampage earlier and posted a bunch of tweets saying that the tapes are mind control elements and a bunch of shit about grey fox but then deleted them

lmao this shit is more entertaining than the plot of the game

All of the series' characters are inexplicably linked several times over for dumb reasons. It's like a Moebius Strip of Stupid.

Just makes me mad that Kojima just did'nt run with that nonsense.Example: Ch.51 side missions playing as Eli trying to figure out mini Mantis won't wear shoes.

Watching grass grow is more entertaining than the plot of this game.

All this meta shit is actually part of the game...

just the fact that ocelot and big boss actually knew each other in the 1960s was kind of star wars prequely, but at least the rest of the cast was new enough. Then Master Miller and Otacon's dad and mom and Liquid and Mantis showed up.

I liked the story. This is probably the only MGS where I looked forward to the next cutscene, since I wasn't being suffocated by them. The only thing I didn't like was Kiefer's voice acting, and the fact Psycho Mantis seems so ridiculously powerful here compared to MGS1. I like Quiet, I just laugh at all the stupid pervy scenes. She's just too OP, never doing mission 45.

Just a heads up, at the endgame on FOB's you can build and steal nukes from other players. Maybe its when the grand total of nukes held by all FOB hits zero? That would explain the "random" names in the credits and why it says his total disarmed nukes, etc. You can see them in the resources tab on the very right (IDROID->Mother Base Tab->resources->go right.).

Oh my god what's wrong with your faaaaaace

even years after peace walker, i still can't get over how awful it is that otacon's parents worked for big boss and that his mom knew the boss and developed the first ai that would later be used to develop the patriots ai, and his dad was responsible for building the first metal gear, and also killing the guy who disabled the leader of the patriots. oh yeah, and one of his later metal gears (which was going to be piloted by Otacon) was piloted by little mantis and little liquid, and he even got tortured by ocelot. cool

if kojima had had more money, he would have made it so that the DARPA researcher who finished the patriots AI was actually emma's mom/otacon's future step-mom (so that emma would have "work on patriot AIs" even more fated for her). he also would have had huey leaving anime VHS tapes with robots around for little hal to find, and going to work at armstech where he developed REX v.05b with the help of... uh, vamp or something, and constantly telling baker "hey if I die you should hire my son someday"

Since everyone starts at 0 nukes and the requirement of everyone disarming their nukes so a cutscene is unlocked globally is insane, I'm guessing it's just triggers after you (or your alliance) disarms a certain amount of nukes.

I really liked the story. The tapes were really well done(especially zero), and after thinking about the twist a bit I actually like it.

Even chapter 1 has a lot of bitchwork. It's like half filler.

Most of it was at least new spaces and fleshed out proper missions. The filler aspect was that nothing was having plot wise, I can get over that if the gameplay feels like it has a nice ramp up. And for the most part it always did.

Even the side ops on some level ramp up, but that doesn't mean there needs to be 15 prisone extractions or whatever. Considering it probably only really ramps up like 5 times, 6 or 7 of those missions would have been better thought out.

So nah, I actually disagree with Chapter 1. If I did bitchwork, it was because I wanted to do bitchwork (side ops), but the main missions? I was into those.

liquid and mantis, with sahalenthropus in tow, venture across the mediterranean to Israel/Lebanon and then venture further into Iraq and meet a young girl who is good w/ a sniper rifle. they have a few misadventures here and eventually make their way across asia until they finally hijack a boat and sail to mexico.

There they meet a young boy skilled in the art of acting and he tells them about his pen pal, a strong native american boy, who lives up in alaska. they take the boy with them and travel to alaska so that he can meet his friend, however once there Ocelot finally catches up to them and keeps them all on a compound until they grow up. from then on you see the adventures of these kids and occasionally see ocelot's legs appear while teaching them a valuable life lesson

Foxhound Babies

Did Liquid refer Mantis to Foxhound, or was it just some awesome coincidence that they were recruited for the same unit? Must have blown his mind.

Sigh...

So for some reason, Miller turns on Big Boss and tries to help Foxhound, but Liquid kills him and assumes his place in MGS. Why and when this happens, we don't know, and why does Liquid recruit or trust Ocelot?

Actually makes even less sense than that.
Both Miller and actual Big Boss end up at Foxhound for some reason. While Venom's chilling in Outer Heaven. Which makes zero sense since everyone knows that Venom isn't real Big Boss and exactly what he's doing. Since Anderson knows, the AI should know.
So MG1 was basically send snake to kill Venom?
Which makes MG2: AHA I Big Boss will take on the AI after all muhahahahaha.

And Miller gets shot in the face by Liquid somewhere prior but not far off the whole shadow Moses incident.

Before I found out about the cut Mission 51, and because the ending was so inconclusive, I actually thought briefly that they were trying to imply that Rex was actually just a modified Sahelanthropus, or something. I wouldn't have put it past the game.

Threedogg wrote a post about the MGSV story cuts: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1snekc6

There have been several people who have dug up files from the pc version showing that there was a chapter 3 entitled "Peace" missing from the game, people also seem to have found that the rehashed chapter 1 missions as a part of chapter 2 were also added late into the game. This really shouldn't come off as a surprise, why in the hell would chapter 2 have more chapter 1 rehashed challenge missions than their own stand alone missions, why do we have to sit through random chapter 1 story content while playing new story content in chapter 2. I know its possible to avoid doing those missions and do side ops instead but it is still unarguably terrible game design, the rehashed challenge missions are classed as main story missions in the same list and anyone would think that these are required to progress the game. The game just looks and feels massively unfinished and rushed once you get through chapter 2, not that the game visually seems unfinished or anything, whats there is beautifully polished, but what isn't there is about half of the game.

Although I must admit it did take a bit of time for me to realize just how bad the problem seemed to be. I think the mindfuck of the ending initially made people unaware of how out of place that whole mission even is in the context of Chapter 2. The last two story missions of the game are "Shining lights, even in death" and "The Man who Sold the World." How the fuck do we go from Snake telling Kaz that they are wearing their comrades into battle to the revelation in the hospital. That's literally what happens and it is so atrociously jarring and paced. What we have here is the final mission of the game most likely, appearing about 25 missions before it should have. It's absolutely infuriating..... To go from the ashes scene to BAM!!! Waking up in the hospital again, time for the big twist. Absolutely terrible and inexcusable.

The Shining lights mission was likely the turning point that led into the third and final chapter which really showcased Venom Snakes descent. The eli mission perhaps being the end of chapter 2 or the beginning of chapter 3, apparently that mission was also to take place on a new map. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B4JIHh5Jqk Here is an unfinished version summary video that was included to show fans what should have happened, it was included in the collectors edition. Eli hijacking Metal Gear was obviously the most blatant plot thread left open so I guess they wanted to show the fans what they were unable to complete.

I hope we get to learn the details about what happened during development someday.

Johnny is the key to all of this if they get Johnny working. 'Cause he's the funniest character they've ever had in all these games before.

i like to imagine Liquid and Mantis spent their whole lives together, always keeping in contact even when working for different countries, until Solid Snake finally left FOXHOUND and they saw it as a perfect opportunity to reunite.

Damn, backlash is hitting this game hard. It's too bad the game ends on such a sour note that you're inevitably left feeling unfulfilled by it.

I was definitely disappointed in the story and the cut content but with some more time, I still feel like I played one of the best games of the year.

Ok I am sure these questions have been asked 100 times and I apologize but what is this Mission 51 thing? Proven cut content? And why did it say Liquid was a clone of Big Boss at the end when they say the complete opposite in a tape

Again going back to that push/pull between toys and art.

MGS V is a great toy, its fun to play. Its very poor art; one's reaction to it probably depends a lot on what they wanted out of the experience.

Liquid doesn't match venom snake's DNA, he does match big boss's DNA.

It's a video in the collectors edition that basically goes over what would have been if they finished it.

As for Liquid, you play as Venom Snake, ie. a medic that got facial (and body?) reconstruction to look like Big Boss so your DNA wouldn't match a clone of Big Boss.

I wish I could ignore the games glaring failures. It's like a beautiful and delicious cake that is still raw batter on the inside. I'm envious of people like you.

Look for mission 51 on youtube.

Liquid is a clone of Big Boss, the chadacter you play as isn't Big Boss.

Ok yeah, that makes sense. Guess I'll check this mission 51 thing out

Yes, Mission 51 was an intended mission to resolve the Eli and Sahalanthropus storyline.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B4JIHh5Jqk

And yeah, they told Venom Snake he wasn't the father, which was true as he's not the true Boss. Big Boss is obviously the father. They talk about this during the Les Enfante Terribles tape.

They must have separated but kept in contact for their previous backstories to even make a lick of sense, so I would think that your idea would be the most likely way for that to work.
