I'm not really arguing you here; I just want clarification...
How can we be anything but subjective when talking about our feelings regarding whether MGSV was a successful game or not?
It's more of a... and I'll just invoke Godwin's law... that sometimes people will say "it's just my opinion that Hitler was an ok guy because he's a vegetarian and a decent painter" with little to no justification.
Art should be justified. Opinions should be justified. If I'm going to say MGSV is the worst game ever, I need to justify it, and conversely the opposite. But so often, people just say their "opinion" with little to no to poor evidence and leave it at that. It's ok to say "I like this" and give no evidence for it, but when you give a judgmental statement of "this is great!" or "this sucks!" and not give any evidence, except hiding hind the shadowy word of "opinion" is bullshit.
"Metal Gear Solid V is the best game ever!".... why? Oh, it's just your opinion? well, that's bullshit.
And so often we try to hide behind our shitty taste with "opinions". I'm glad you like wrestling and consider it art with its storylines and acting or faux athleticism or whatever, but until you express it with
thought and heart, it's "your opinion" and that's worth as much as my spit.
In short, lots of people on the internet hide behind "opinion" to hide behind their crappy taste or lack of taste. And, for whatever the reason, people in this "nerd culture" of things excuse "opinion" because, on the internet, they reign supreme.
That's my major issue. Defend your bad taste or lack of taste in arts, and maybe then you'll elevate your taste and subjects. That's what I mean with the defense of "opinions".
It's like saying it's okay to have guilty pleasures. You either have pleasures or you don't. I love Bring it On and will argue that it is a fine movie. I won't say it's crap but I enjoy it anyway.
