It's like saying it's okay to have guilty pleasures. You either have pleasures or you don't. I love Bring it On and will argue that it is a fine movie. I won't say it's crap but I enjoy it anyway.

Eh, I don't really agree with that assessment to be honest. I have watched movies, animes and read books which I know were not well made, have very poor character development, shoddy writting, plot holes galore, odd pacing and many other flaws, and still enjoy it nevertheless, sometimes because of these things as there's something oddly entertaining about a trainwreck. Just like there's some enjoyment to be had by reading unintentionally bad fanfics. I'd definetely never argue that they're quality works whatsoever.

Yes.

This is the darkest, most negative this thread has been since the first one was made. The vitriol in here is palpable. I dunno what happened. People were complaining and voicing their concerns before but apparently MGSV is now Satan. Whatever.

Hype backlash is the one true constant in the universe.

Ghost Babel is the best sequel in the series.

What game had the best hype/hype-backlash ratio? And vise versa.

That might be a decent thread....hmmm
MGSV doesn't have that big of a backlash since it's saved by the amazing gameplay and because it's playable at launch. We only have like two major bugs and no widespead performanxr issues. Not even the biggest backlash in recent months *nod to Arkham Knight*

Grinding out these endless side ops and taking glances at this thread.
Entertaining as fuck.

Also the enemy sniper.
Just shut the fuck up Ocelot.

Define "best". Do you mean a game who had a lot of hype and very few backlash? If so, then The Last of Us had a pretty decent hype/backlash ratio, as in there was some backlash, like there always is, but for the most part reception has been mostly positive even a year after its release.

Dark Souls was pretty hyped between its niche audience and it's still one of the better regarded games of the last gen.

I just thought people were having fun making fun of the story.

Well, I finally made it through all the missions.

This is probably the best gameplay experience I have had all year, and the most dissapointing story I've experienced.

I can't believe Kojima just MGS2'd us again, except the reveal doesn't happen till the very end where you learn you do not play the character you though you would. I'd probably have accepted it more likely if Hayter voiced Ishmael/BB instead of both Venom and BB being voiced by Sutherland. This is what the MGS4 ending would have been if Hayter was just taking to himself instead of Doyle taking over the role of BB.

I kinda understand the disappointment people had when MGS2 came out. The you play as raiden twist was spoiled for me years before I even played MGS2 for the first time, so it never bothered me. The trailers made me expect this was going to be the story of how BB went from hero to the villain of MGS.

I thought the idea of nanomachines was ridiculous in MGS4, until Armstrong in revengeance made me ironically love them, but man

this is all revenge and parasites which is in borderline lunacy. The skulls and their wormholes are practically fantasy to me. If anyone can tell me which cassette tape explains how these things work, it would be appreciated, because this tech seems way more advanced than almost everything in MGS1 and 2.

I am glad to know I am not the only one who just fucking lost it at the "such a lust for revenge line"

In the end, this game is undeniabley fun. Its probably the most satisfying gameplay experience I have had all year, but this story is not what I wanted.

Maybe I'll learn to except it in a few months or so. I'd joke and say I want off Kojima's wild ride... but Konami is shutting the rollercoaster down. Even though the ride makes me feel nauseous and dazed, its still sad to see it close.

Still trying to decide if Quiet or B&B's are worse. Probably Quiet, the rain scene gives her an edge

Those B&B "photoshoots" though

B&B photoshoots were considered eastereggs though.

Quiet is in a bikini all the time and all cutscenes focus on her boobs because Kojima is an old perv :D Whole photosynthesis reason was bullshit due to Codetalker and the Skulls wearing clothing. And, well, just how it was written and designed. She could have been wearing the XOF uniform and be fine. Or atleast Leona level of clothing:

Anyone else dislike the way they handled Zero? I'm really tired of them trying to sell him as a villain with him barely appearing in the series. IIRC, he appears at the start and end of MGS3, as a good guy, at the end of MGS4, not speaking a word, and then in some tapes in TPP. And in some of these tapes, he actually tries to help Big Boss. Just in the Paz one you see him trying to do some harm. Am I supposed to just accept he's a villain because people keep telling me to? Or am I missing something here?

Yeah, I really hate that they keep telling me "how bad of a person Zero is"... but the only times I have ever seen him is in MGS3 when he was David Oh and in 4 when he is the decrepid man about to die in a few seconds

ishmael doesn't exist

skull face doesn't exist
(WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO?)
they are phantoms

ground zeroes is a VR mission, all tapes were made AFTER you were rescued

zero was never debilitated, he is still in control --- everything is a lie - 1984 ministry of "truth" - the times do not add up

what secrets will MGO reveal?

the ruse cruise never stops

Anyone else really bummed you never fight Skull Face?

I mean, he was set up to be your giant arch nemesis, the most cruel villain in the history of the series.

And he's nothing really. How he acts, and how he actually thinks are jarring. He feels like two entirely different people.

I loved Nanomachines, Son.

MGS stories are at their best when told with a charming goofiness. Didn't get that in TPP.

So the game tries to explain with science the cobra unit powers then ignores the elephant in the room that is Psycho Mantis, nice...
Also finally got what Kojima meant with farewell sausage it was a warning to what Quiet unleashed to russian's crotches in her last mission, WP Kojima you magnificient bastard.

Damn, the trailers were so great, I watched them over 100 times during the past 3 years. Such a goddamn shame how those perfectly delivered lines ended up so disappointingly in the game itself. I just now watched the final Kojima trailer which I refused to watch out of spoiler warnings. Again... such a masterful trailer, holy shit, how can you butcher your own game so much.

There was actually one really great scene in the game - the one where Skull Face walks out of the helicopter and the camera movement pins to his hat while he starts talking in this demonic voice. Holy shit could I not know that it would go only downhill after that...

His entire motivation makes no sense.

My language was taken from me, (I guess by Zero) so I have these fantasy parasites that will kill anyone who speaks english. Then the world will need my metal gears for a new language.

This rivals Armstrong in incredibly poor villain motivations, but Armstrong had a goofy almost self aware charm to him, like he was parodying other metal gear villains.

And for fucks sake, Saehlantrophus is controlled by revenge.

Weather control????? That's a thing?

Yup. You can let your support change the weather whenever you want. Still playing it and still unlocking cool shit. Just yesterday I got the ability to tell DD to fulton whoever I knocked out instead of me going to them.

I find it funny that the spoiler thread reached part 2, lmao. Man, that twist did something alright.

People should listen to tapes before asking stupid questions and claim that somethings aren't explained in the game (ex: Mantis, the man on fire and skull face) . The concept of language is very interesting to me and vocal cord parasite and parasite therapy explains nanomachines and Fox Die virus. In the truth tapes, Zero tells Skull Face that developing parasites to target languages (obviously Skull Face disagree) is unnecessary because you can target individuals (Fox Die). The real Big Boss using Venom as a decoy and ignoring The Boss's "The world would be better off without snakes" while 100% approving Zero's plan to create another Snake made me see him as an evil bastard now.

It's VERY easy to see who has been giving a shit to the tapes and who isn't. I don't blame those that don't though, if you pile them up you'll never feel like listening that's why I listened to any tape I got as soon as they gave them to me.

Am I seeing this correcty, I have built an FOB and that also increased the number of staff I can have on each base ?

btw. Online is insanely bad, nothing really works. Let's pray that won't be that bad for MGO.
But it will.

Yeah and then after you get through the incredibly disappointing "ending" they throw like 8 more tapes at you. Also, how many fucking tapes were there about the biology of the vocal cord parasites that just kept.repeating.the.same.shit. Top that off with Code Talkers cadence being agonizingly slow, good lord I think I ended up fast-forwarding through most of them and I never do that in an MGS game.

You can say the same thing about the codec conversations in the previous games (I find a lot of them boring). It really depends on if you like the language concept or not. I really like it.
