Seriously, Quiet on Extreme might be the best boss fight in the entire series. I spent hours trying to beat that one. I also do not see the problem some people have with the Skulls, I found the confrontation at the airport quite intense. The combat mechanics are pretty good and these battles give you a chance to put them to use, every game should have that dive move.
Sahelanthropus didn't do much for me though, I actually think Quiet and air support did most of the job on that one cause I hadn't bothered to develop any good rocket launchers yet. It was pretty cool finding an armored vehicle in the middle of the road and getting to use that in a boss fight, unfortunately the driving in this game leaves something to be desired, especially when you're trying to blow shit up at the same time.

Wow, who needs that terrible infants project.

It's not like they introduced a new element to the story.

this may be a crazy theories but i think that TPP was rewritten because of GZ mature themes. If you think back GZ has more taboo than TPP.

is it me but does Ground Zeroes have a darker theme than TPP

It's just Chico's Tape 4 that pushes GZ to be one of the most controversial games out there. Other than that both games are on par in terms of how grim they are.

How did Venom Snake become as skilled as Big Boss? Including CQC?

Same way Big Boss became almost as good as The Boss. BB trained Venom and Venom was noted as the best MSF soldier.

Well, it's established in the franchise that the project was bollocks anyways and that you don't need to copy paste the man to reproduce the legend. I actually like the notion that Big Boss isn't some unique being that never will be. He was just extraordinary soldier with a lot of circumstances, a lot of them resulting from a bigger plan. He was dancing on the palm of other people's hands the whole time in Snake Eater and then the resulting fame just spiraled out of control of those who build it. There is no reason to believe that there are other extraordinary soldiers on the level or even above BB's level around the world. All they need is the circumstances.

I think a lot of things in TPP was changed, so yes I can see this.

But what scenes? Most of TPP's cutscenes were shown in previous and trailers two years ago. Clearly not all that much plotwise was outright cut, and none of the stuff that was cut but left in the game files is controversial, at all.

They show you the effect how they made weapons from forks and what available to them in motherbase. It shows you that children raised on war and violence will develop bad habits and change their behaviors to the worse.

It's not shown, if I recall correctly, Miller just tells you. It dilutes the effectiveness of the message.

You might argue that a lot of MGS is about being told about stuff in codecs/casettes, but especially in cases of hearsay (i.e. where two characters are discussing the actions of a third party), I find it to be terrible storytelling. I barely remember any of Naomi's storyline in MGS1 because she doesn't actually exist as a character really. Kinda the same with "Master Miller", at least until the 'reveal'.

Solid Snake kicking the most ass in the entire series and not being a fucking asshat are proof that LET was a success.

After rewatching the Kingsmen church scene I am missing a mission in the game where you are in a small room fighting enemies that have no weapons. It doesn't have to be civilians, but enemies with light weaponry or something. Everything that leads to a true close quarter brawl.

What Voyevoda says:

Was Solid Snake good because of his genes... or his training?
Is he great because of his genes or because people thought he will be something special and trained him extra good, got him support and build him up? I am not a fan of people being grand and better than other people because of their genes.

I'm pretty sure it was a combination of the two.
Because of how much the games have made a big deal about gene's in the past, i don't think they would simply drop it.
I mean granted MGSV tries to through a wrench in that, but I don't think it applies to BBs sons.

Was Solid Snake good because of his genes... or his training?

Well he had recessive genes, so through training

Solid Snake is like, the only good guy in the series.

Pretty much. Raiden too ( if you discount his child soldier stuff ). Plus Solidus with his end goal was kind of good. Apart from that its hard to find anyone who is pretty much without fault apart from solid snake. Thats why ive always preferred him over Big Boss

Just a guy trying to do his best to save the world.

Such a lust for good music......
i hope this meme remains in MGS threads for years to come

Liquid commanded a group of child soldiers as a kid before stealing a fucking metal gear from a PMC so I would say that he had not that much training but was still effective so more points in LET's favor.

So since Glaz and Palitz ask Big Boss in Ground Zeroes if he is a Phantom when you hold them up, is there any chance that those Pseudo-Historical Reenactments were carried out by V before Big Boss ever comes to Camp Omega for the first time, but us seeing him as Big Boss is where it differs from the actual history?

But what scenes? Most of TPP's cutscenes were shown in previous and trailers two years ago. Clearly not all that much plotwise was outright cut, and none of the stuff that was cut but left in the game files is controversial, at all.

Maybe there was stuff that wasn't even shown in trailers that got cut. At this point it's hard to guess how much was removed simply due Kojima's direction choice and how much was removed due to Konami's pressure. I can see why people will want to immediately pin the blame on Konami. However, there is a chance Kojima removed the controversial content of his on volition. We simply don't have enough information to make conclusions yet. Nevertheless, seeing how under-cooked a lot of the game's story elements were it is safe to assume that the game was released unfinished despite how much content and polish the game shipped with.

So how do I play as my avatar?

Complete episode 46. Than when you are dispatching go under the character menu and change it to your avatar or any other soldier you have in your combat unit. You can even play as Kojima if you wanted to.

Wasn't one of the points of MGS2 that anyone could become snake given certain circumstances?

Liquid commanded a group of child soldiers as a kid before stealing a fucking metal gear from a PMC so I would say that he had not that much training but was still effective so more points in LET's favor.

It helps having a god by his side.

it is kinda funny because ultimately kojima has managed to make big boss into a villain for the series from the pov of the audience, but mainly because he fucks off and lets venom take the fall

The whole thing with MGS1 was that Solid Snake was the recessive gene guy, not liquid, and that genetics didn't determine your fate. Genes only became important in MGS4 because of the DNA control system.

no.

no. no. no. no. no.

NO

Solid Snake had the dominant alleles of Big Boss's genes, this is why he has brown hair.
liquid has the recessive alleles and that is why he has recessive traits like blonde hair and green eyes. these are recessive traits.

the ending stinger in MGS1 is that "the inferior one" triumphed, but that just points to the fact that the soldier genes the LET project was after had recessive traits, so liquid was the 'superior' one while solid was 'inferior'

Genetics. pls google

Have we got mods swaps involving Volgin yet? Not when he's burnt and shit. Wish we could have seen Zero in his HD glory days too.

Why aren't there videos of Quiet - Kojima model swap ? I really want to see Kojima dancing in the rain and showering while diamod dogs fapfapfapfap.

developing four nukes and dismantling them, maybe? *~*

I am really amazed that it's literally the same guy only with two different pictures.

Big Boss stealing resources from MB to staff OH. That there's an accounting error. Nothing to see here!

When it talks about how screwed up these kid soldiers are, it loses something because instead of showing you directly necessarily, it's mostly Miller telling you about it. None of the kids are real characters beyond Eli, and the one who is kinda is defined pretty much by his wooden horse talismen. Even when they are showing them, there's not much to them besides "they're kids and they're soldiers, but they should be kids".
Does it have any meaningful component in the game beyond that one story event?

Knowing that a lot of stuff was cut, wouldnt the kingdom of flies mission stand for that? With Eli as the child soldier you are looking for?

fine, whatever. the point was that genes don't determine your fate.

just your hair and eye colour

and probably hereditary diseases

i wonder where Tomokazu Fukushima is I would like to see his vision of MGS4,PW,5. Tomokazu Fukushima has been quiet for a long time.

I don't know - I think Eli's status as Liquid diverts heavily from the standard child soldier message. Given what Kojima already put in the game, I don't think he was too interested in showing Liquid as being a victim of a situation where he was already being groomed to be a clone soldier from a young age and was more interested in showing Liquid as a little shitball instead.

It depends to what extent the focus would've been on the other kids, but I wouldn't have been too optimistic. And ultimately it was all cut.

What this game establishes, is that Big Boss was extraordinary because of us controlling him.
That's why it goes full meta.

the point of the LET project is that there were certain genes that would make someone a better soldier, these were called the "soldier genes" and then when creating the clones they did the super baby method and created liquid, who was their super soldier, solid was made to facilitate the birth of liquid (liquid got it wrong because of his misinterpretation and hate)

the soldiers underwent genome therapy based on soldier gene theory

this is why in MGSV they mention Liquid being trained by Cipher and what not but he escapes to Africa, and Solid was sent to America to have a normal life.. because they really had no use for him.

Pretty much. Raiden too ( if you discount his child soldier stuff ). Plus Solidus with his end goal was kind of good.

What Solidus did before he became president was far from admirable. Solid has supposedly done some pretty bad stuff too.
People seem disappointed that we didn't get to see Big Boss turn evil in TPP, but do we even need an evil Big Boss at this point? Solid Snake was unknowingly working for The Patriots in the first two games, which is not to say that Big Boss was the good guy, but the context of his actions very much changed with MGS2 and ever since then he's been painted in a more favorable light. This is spelled out in MGS4.

That entire plot point is complete nonsense, and it still bothers me. Recessive/Dominant has very little to do with fitness or quality.

It's a game series based on pseudoscience and has parasites that can target language, giant mechs and people with real psychic powers all to make an anti-war, anti-nuke message.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the whole genetics side of thing. There's aspects of the games that all well researched and there's others that are disregarded because the sciene fiction sounds better.

Solid was sent to America to have a normal life

Snake.... had a hard life.
