What Solidus did before he became president was far from admirable. Solid has supposedly done some pretty bad stuff too.
.

Thats why i mentioned his end goal was good, not the stuff he did to achieve it. Also what has solid done that was pretty bad? I cant think of much?

Ok, so after beating the game and getting the Truth, I ran the guantlet of emotions. I felt cheated to be honest. I'm still kinda shocked they didn't let us play as Big Boss at all in what is the final MGS game.

Then I stopped and realized that The Phantom Pain is the basis for the Raiden experiment in MGS2, and I fel a little bit better. Zero set up the entire Phantom Big Boss situation, and this same sort of process would be used on Raiden: His memories were repressed, he was a highly trained soldier before becoming a new Snake, and instead of hypnosis and memory implants, he was taught Snake's skills by VR training.

So Phantom Big Boss was known to the Patriots, and was used as the Template for the Solid Snake Simulation misinformation fed to Ocelot, who would have bought into it wholeheartedly knowing that the Patiot's founder had successfully created a second Big Boss even without Snake's genes.

Essentially genes aren't the most important part of the Snake line. Sufficient training and the self-efficacy that comes with the Snake/Big Boss title seems to be all that's needed to make a great soldier into a legendary soldier.

If you listen to all of the tapes in the Truth section, I can't even tell who is good and who is bad anymore. The game is a mind fuck, and it's sad that it isn't even finished. Mission 51 doesn't even add any closure - Ocelot tells Kaz they were fuckin him the whole time and all he says is "We'll have to get used to coexisting then" and that's it. Fkn BB riding into the sunset on a bike with a cigar and Kojima isn't there to end the series the way this game was meant to .. ..

Zero did nothing wrong.

Huey

Tecl0n, you're right, that's how I see it anyway. Actually the only thing he really did "wrong" IMO is his interpretation of what The Boss wanted, with the complete control of information (which we knew about with The Patriots) as he specifically mentions in the files. Nobody did anything wrong, except SIGINT.

yeah Huey is a psychopath. Kind of weird that he cops so much torture and abuse from Ocelot and Kaz, but it takes Hal smanging his wife for him to kill himself??

That entire plot point is complete nonsense, and it still bothers me. Recessive/Dominant has very little to do with fitness or quality.

Think thats partly the point Kojima tried to make. You can be your own human being and do whatever you want despite your genes/family heritage.

Also hate what they did with liquid, wish he was never in this game and i hate te whole idea of clearly not psycho mantis being best buds with liquid since they were kids.

Wasn't one of the points of MGS2 that anyone could become snake given certain circumstances?

I think the difference here is you're just some Medic, Raiden was raised by Solidus as a child soldier and his kill count was through the roof add to that all the VR missions he went through when working for Foxhound and it's entirely plausible he can fight as well as Snake.

Still a soldier of MSF, with training, but who's specialized as a Medic.

oh and i hear the ending is pretty damn funny if you've called yourself, for example, tiffany. or sarah.

here's your passport vic boss.

yeah you're called tiffany now.

roll with it

According to Campbell whatever Snake has done is bad enough to have him locked up "for a very long time", Psycho Mantis seemed to echo this sentiment.

I don't know - I think Eli's status as Liquid diverts heavily from the standard child soldier message. Given what Kojima already put in the game, I don't think he was too interested in showing Liquid as being a victim of a situation where he was already being groomed to be a clone soldier from a young age and was more interested in showing Liquid as a little shitball instead.

It depends to what extent the focus would've been on the other kids, but I wouldn't have been too optimistic. And ultimately it was all cut.

I think its more pertinent that Eli is the stand-in for the child soldiers given that he hates fact he has to live up to a fate he didnt want. It didnt matter that he was a clone or a super soldier or whatever, all that matters is they trained a child to be a soldier and that shit bleeds forward.

Maybe you were looking for the "this stuff is effed up" "dead child character that we were supposed to be attached to" visuals and I would understand if thats what you thought was lacking.

Eh, I just think it's too difficult to think of Eli as a character in that sense because he's too tainted by the fact that he's very obviously Liquid. Any function he would have as a representative of being a child soldier is overpowered by the fact of him being this important established character in the series.

They also don't really talk too much about his past and how anybody feels about it besides that Eli is angry.

latched onto venom

when he's latched onto volgin his sleeves goes aflame, when he latches onto eli he gets a weird red thing on one shoulder to match eli's dumb red thing

The dumb red thing is a red beret right? The type the enemy commanders in the game wear.

A child commander wore it too in a mission.

The Medic was one of the best soldiers in the entire MSF outfit, and he had roughly 9 years of suggestion and memories of Big Boss force fed to him while he was in his long (sedated?) coma. It's like a primative form of the VR training Raiden underwent, and the success of Phantom Big Boss may have been the thing that led to the creation of the soldier Raiden.

I also like how the ending establishes why Miller would be against Big Boss in the Zanzibar Land incident, working for the Patriots in order to fuck with Big Boss. It puts Ocelot as his most likely killer, and firmly pits Ocelot against Solid Snake and tying his allegiance to Liquid and Solidus.

Man, I really love how Solid Snake was pretty much the inadvertent villain for the entire series, and each game that has come out since MGS2 has highlighted that a little more each time.

remember when you thought flaming volgan was a telepathic apparition conjured by baby mantis, drawn from the deep recesses of big boss's psyche, his history, and the demons that haunt him

and then it turned out to be a literally physical embodiment of volgan from his brain dead corpse's will for revenge via mantis

PW Big Boss: Soldiers will never again be used as tools of governments, fighting for their own sakes, blah blah blah

MGSV Big Boss: So this guy's been most my loyal and best soldier (i'll tell you this in an audiotape lol), let's use him as a tool without telling him so I can go build a nation

Yup, because revenge lives on.

Well the guy did sacrifice his life to save the man he was fanatically devoted to, and in return became his biggest hero, built part of a legend, got super rich, and came into control of one of the world's most powerful armies.

I'd say that's a sweet deal.

maybe dude had a wife and kids or something tho. Who knows. More of the point is that BB did a complete 180 on his ideals for some reason

This sounds really dumb on paper, but the way it was written was actually pretty good, and felt believable for the MGS series. It also further cemented Mantis as a victim.

So what is this about a secret Nuclear scene? Can someone let me know how to get it without spoiling too much. I never bothered building a nuke because I'm always short on fuel but if there is actually more to it than just some fob nonsense I might try it.

Ben from GT said he called himself GreyFox then forgot about it, so during that moment, he just was so confused for a few seconds.

Is easy to get, just dispose of all the nukes on your formats FOBs.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Moreso when it was already done without your behest

If everyone is Snake what was the point of cloning?
That's the point, Les Enfants Terribles is fundamentally flawed. Being a good soldier or becoming a legend isn't written in your genes. David, Eli and George, while all similar in various ways, turned out to be their own men, despite being clones of Jack/Big Boss. Liquid's downfall was letting his genes control his life - a big part of the message of MGS1 was that he put his mind in the wrong place and focused on the wrong things. MGS2 took it a step further and showed outright that you don't need to be Snake to be a Snake-like soldier.

TPP is the ultimate realization of this not only because it sets the basis for what The Patriots would later do with Raiden, but because out of the four Snakes that come from Big Boss/Naked, the only one he accepts as his successor is Venom, his comrade from MSF who fought alongside him and shared his ideals. Venom is the only one who's not a genetic clone, but also the only one who takes over the title of Boss. BB writes off Eli and David and may have not even ever known about George.

Whoever's lust for revenge is strongest is the person he helps.
In the prologue it was Big Boss, therefore he has a horn.

wow, i thought it was volgin the whole time during the prologue. That's why the whale ate the helicopter, it was Venom's doing in a certain way.

Now the questions left are "what was that hole in chico chest?", "is kaz really blind?" and "why we should be careful to kaz as code talker said?"

the rest of the answers are in mission 51. Oh yeah, and that "it's not over yet".

Maybe the hole in Chicos chest was an early version of the vocal cord parasite.

FIXED 😊😭😭😭

Not sure how it fits into the timeline. Possible. If Skullface is in Cube though that probably means he hasn't been exiled to Africa yet, but maybe he was clandestinely visiting despite Zero's edict. He definitely hadn't attacked Zero yet though.
