but for real guyz, I found the missing link, the only one you'll ever need

its all there, right there in that video game

It's frustrating because so many of the story beats work so well. The story isn't all terrible like many are claiming. Some of it is really powerful stuff. Having said that, I don't think the cut content would make it perfect either. Even if this game had another 2 years it would have fundamental problems on a story level. Still the best game I've played all year, maybe ever in terms of big budget action games.

It really is, if not then with PO would be enough, if not then PW, but no Kojima infatuation with BB is even worse than that of Ocelot.
Also the twist comes from the Acid games
you aren't Solid

Is it stated that Ocelot is The Boss's son in MGS3? I remember her talking about having a son that was taken away from her, but I can't remember if it was said in game whether it was Ocelot or not. Was it revealed in PoOps or MGS4 maybe? Or do I just need to replay MGS3?

There's a codec conversation telling the story of how Ocelot was born and it matches with the story the Boss tells about giving birth on the battlefield.

I mean, if he's not her son, it's a really stupid red herring that serves no purpose.

yup, this is all we ever needed to understand how Big Boss turned evil, and all we'll ever need.

What so what's so bad about chapter 2

Im enjoying it so far

Just did the container research materials
Calling it Chapter 2 really does the post game stuff a disservice, sets up expectations by the way it's labeled. Should have just let you roll right into it after the credits, no trailer, no title card. Chapter 1 is the game, as far as I'm concerned.

This can be said for most Kojima games though. Like I said before, the MGS games at least attempt to handle themes and concepts that are legitimately unique to the medium and interesting topics of discussion with real world implications.

Even with MGS4, there is something to be said about the global privatisation of military in a rapidly growing digitalised world, the automation of tracking and command systems, and evolving technologies being implemented in soldiers to track/control emotional states and use of equipment. Experimenting with emotional states of soldiers happened in Vietnam. It's nothing new, but it's interesting.

And the general science fiction plot of the world's economy, business, and corporate culture ultimately tracked and automated by a basic artificial intelligence that, over time, unintentionally falls into a disastrous feedback loop of war economy stability via privatised PMCs isn't at all a bad idea. It's a great template.

You just happen to learn all about it through long winded, poorly written exposition dump at the last fucking minute via a twice-killed (AT THE TIME) soldier man with an eyepatch, in a graveyard, who then takes another old catatonic man (who pees) off life support.

There's a radio call to EVA to 3 during the Ocelot fight where Snake wonders how he can be an officer at such a young age, and EVA says that according to rumor, Ocelot is the son of a legendary soldier, and that he was born on a battlefield. Snake assumes that the soldier was the father, and the mother was in a battlefield for some reason.

At the end, The Boss obviously mentions giving birth on the battlefield, so it all fits.

Ah, got it. Thanks.

6th october for MGO, hope that is really true. If it get's delayed again I'll probably end up buy UC collection or Dragon Quest Heroes.

Edit: Don't make this thread a stupid hype train thread. There is nothing to hype. This is the game's story.

Sadly, I think this is one Kojima ride I think I'm going to bow out of.

I'm not sure I want them to use the bloody corpse of cut content to stitch together something that resembles closure.

Question: what does everyone want to see from the next MGS game (because there will be one) considering what this game has dumped on us?

Edit: I mean story-wise

New universe, similar gameplay and themes. Despite disappointing a lot of people narratively, Kojima and team still made one of the best stealth games ever in MGSV.

Take that gameplay as a base, build upon it a bit and start a new story. It's pretty obvious that this Big Boss/Solid Snake universe was never supposed to last this long, was supposed to end multiple times already, and it's pretty much like squeezing blood from a stone trying to create a worthwhile story from it at this point.
So, with Kojima gone anyways and the 30 years of Metal Gear legacy meaning jack shit without him, they might as well go for broke on a new continuity.

SKYWALKER RANCH, 2004

Jorge [writing]: And then Obi-Wan and Anakin run in to confront Sheev. Anakin's all "I'll never turn to the Dark Side" and Sheevy is all, "Oh, but you already did." Then the real Anakin walks out and he's got a red lightsaber and he's all Sithy and shit. Obi-Wan's all, "Huh-waaaaaaaa?" and Palpomania explains that the real Anakin actually came to him during the Clone Wars and that the Anakin right there is a clone made on Kamino. Then the real evil Vader Anakin kills the good clone. This will finally answer audiences' question about how and why Obi-Wan told Luke that Vader killed Anakin "from a certain point of view." Hmm... nah, that's too much, the main character's dad finally just turns evil in the prequel because he's sad about his mom dying.

What about a completely unrelated story in the same universe?

Damn, I look glorious gazing out that first class window...thinking about my long lost Quiet.
At least you are actually on the train, unlike half of the others in that photo

I don't understand this logic

Chapter 2 is just as much part of the story as 1. The main threat is defeated now they're covering the aftermath...

Most games post main story content is BS, atleast we're still getting voice overs, cutscenes, and different missions

Don't call it a chapter 2 then. Epilogue maybe? Who the hell makes 2 chapter stories?

i still don't really know what happened. Is big boss's Phantom the new Big Boss? Why some random dude from the Helicopter? If he can be big boss does that mean there's nothing special about BB? In future games, which Big Boss is the phantom?

I haven't done any of the repeat missions, just side ops and the yellow story missions when they unlock

Is there a point where you have to do the repeat missions to get new missions?

No, people thought you had to do them for a while, but I didn't do them and I got the ending last night. Basically jsut do all of the yellow things in Chapter 2.

The real Big Boss went off and did... something to set up the events of future games, it's extremely vague.

The Phantom was the guy that Snake fought in the original Metal Gear. The real Big Boss was in Metal Gear 2 (the MSX game) and at the end of 4.

I wonder if Kojima and his team realize that they dropped the ball, despite the reviews I hope they know fans are extremely dissapointed.

Hell, the game should've ended at chapter one. All you had to do is the following: Have Eli escape MB without mantis giving him that english strain and without the Metal Gear. Eli and Mantis set out to do terrorist like activities foreshadowing shadow Moses.

Boss already obtained the Metal Gear for MG1, so Boss fixing it up would be reason enough for Kaz to leave.

I mean all this could've been wrapped nicely assuming Kojima couldn't give his original vision. The first ending is the one that works the most all it needed was some tweaking.

So its literally just the name that bothers you?

Weird

Kojima makes chapter 2 stories thats who...

Almost every game I've owned I fizzle out after the main story. I'm happy they're making the post game engaging

1) No, they're both Big Boss really. Venom Snake (you) builds an army while the real Big Boss does some other shit in safety.
2) It was Big Boss' best soldier (you)
3) Pretty much. Big Boss is more a name than a legend.
4) MG1 is phantom Big Boss, MG2 is real Big Boss.
