Found a gif of the ending
545cd1e6ec1bd71ea97ddccf236d58a7.gif

i still don't really know what happened. Is big boss's Phantom the new Big Boss? Why some random dude from the Helicopter? If he can be big boss does that mean there's nothing special about BB? In future games, which Big Boss is the phantom?

Listen to the unlocked tapes.

The real Big Boss went off and did... something to set up the events of future games, it's extremely vague.

The Phantom was the guy that Snake fought in the original Metal Gear. The real Big Boss was in Metal Gear 2 (the MSX game) and at the end of 4.
Ah, fair enough. I wonder that instead of remaking MGS they should consider remaking those last two. Don't think most fans have played nor finished those.

i'm surprised how many people are surprised and pissed by the ending.... nobody saw it coming? really? You can guess it in the intro and there's hints throughout the whole game!

I loved it, i don't find it bullshit, it's got an ending like Mgs2 to me (which is still my favortie)

It's not simply saying "You play as the medic" because that's a shallow way
to look at it. At the beginning, we create our perfect avatar, a representation of
ourself, we even put our own name and DOB in it. WE, the players, are the medic -
WE are venom snake. Now, what is big boss? It isnt a person - it's a title. A legacy.

Ok, so we don't play as Jack, the original big boss - but we DO play as big boss -
Jack hands us the PLAYER that title - this is Kojima's final MGS game, and, as a farewell present, he is giving US the title of Big Boss. That's why Jack says thank you. It's subtle,
but it's from Kojima.

Jack says that the medic was his his most trusted lieutenant -
why was he? What's so special about him? It's because we've known Jack since his very
first mission. That's why Venom Snake has Jacks memories - it's because we were there WITH Jack.

It's not a fuck you to fans - it's a thank you. It also fits with the canon too -
it explains how Big Boss survived MG1s Outer Heaven ending - he didn't. Solid Snake killed Big Bosses phantom -he killed Venom. Don't be shallow. Sadly, this will be lost on most fans.

Have you even tried to read on why people don't like this games plot and some characters?

MGS4 Act 3 is trash, I don't think that was "finished" either. Final is just boss fights too, the level itself just seems unfinished again, like there should be more.

MGS4 gameplay systems were pretty good overall but there wasn't all that much to play them in, you have a million different weapons but what of it? MGSV is like the opposite now. you have a million different weapons and can actually use them all,

That's exactly what MGSV is. There's a fuckton of weapons and gadgets, but I finished it easily with my Tranq Gun, one machinegun, two sniper rifles and one rocket launcher. I barely even used stuff like Decoys or anything like that.

Just like MGS4, you have the choice to use the rest of the weapons and gadgets, but you don't actually have to.

What is everyone's favorite Venom suit?

I'm partial to normal olive drab and bandana.

The sneaking suit just doesn't look practical to me.

So Paz was just a dream? I guess it makes sense since that was the last thing to happen to the medic before the accident and the transformation into Big Boss.

I don't understand this logic

Chapter 2 is just as much part of the story as 1. The main threat is defeated now they're covering the aftermath...

Most games post main story content is BS, atleast we're still getting voice overs, cutscenes, and different missions
Post game content that dolls out meaningful story beats is what makes it an interesting structural choice, one that keeps the player on their toes as it's not what we've come to expect. It's a similar philosophy behind mixing up the importance of side ops and main missions, or side ops leading into main missions. The game is not entirely successful at pulling it off and it may not have been the original ambition, but as far as open world games that let you continue after credits roll it's a valid approach.

His biker gear you get from the true ending, look's phenomenal in game, he really looks like the leader of outer heaven, the goggles even have physics on them. If you got the triumph as a vehicle it would make it even more perfect

i still don't really know what happened. Is big boss's Phantom the new Big Boss? Why some random dude from the Helicopter? If he can be big boss does that mean there's nothing special about BB? In future games, which Big Boss is the phantom?

Venom is Big Boss' body double. Venom was MSF's most loyal and best soldier, he saved BB's life and is rewarded by being turned into BB. Being meta, Venom is a blank slate, he is a stand-in for the player. You are BB's most loyal and best soldier, capable of BB feats and in the Truth ending BB/Kojima breaks the fourth wall to tell you that you are now the "BIG BOSS" and are responsible for the legend the name entails.

Just like most MGS games, Legends arent all theyre meant to be. BB was supported by XOF during MGS3, Zero spreads propaganda of BB and BB's legend is grown even more in MGSV by having a body double(Meaning he can do more in the same time).

The timeline at the end of MGSV says VS is BB in MG1 and original BB is in MG2

But I don't have the feeling that most people hated the twist/ending here.

well last time i was here, it was pretty much what everyone talked about and i mostly saw negative thing about it

of course is just opinions and it's subjective but i was surprised by the number of hate about it

maybe more people are liking the ending now, i didn't read the whole thread

I got through the whole game with:

tranq gun
grenade launcher
rocket launcher

and if that didn't work:

tranq gun
grenade launcher
sniper rifle

My strategy was to CQC and tranq as much as possible, and if we were going to start a fire fight, I was going to come back at them with all the fucking firepower in the world. In the few cases that didn't work, I'd snipe from afar.

The only exception was that fucking mission with the skulls where you had to protect code talker. I used a machine gun in that one.

Finally watched Episode 51

Actually? I'm glad it was cut. It brought nothing to the table other than Liquid flying in the air and Mantis ripping the parasites out of his throat.

Also, my Venom and his name was
Felix Pliskin

It was fun

So Paz was just a dream? I guess it makes sense since that was the last thing to happen to the medic before the accident and the transformation into Big Boss.
Right, didn't think about that. He probably is more disturbed by her death than Big Boss, since he was the operating medic that could've saved her. I can see how her death would hit him extra hard. I always wondered why he cared so much about Paz when he basically ignored Chico's death. But that actually makes a lot of sense.

Wrong, in the prologue the most vengeful was the whale.

lmao

remember when you thought flaming volgan was a telepathic apparition conjured by baby mantis, drawn from the deep recesses of big boss's psyche, his history, and the demons that haunt him

and then it turned out to be a literally physical embodiment of volgan from his brain dead corpse's will for revenge via mantis

let's just go back to watching the trailers over and over again

The Boss: *takes bong rip* man... from like, space, there are no borders or politics or wars, y'know

Gene: so military dictatorships, got it
Big Boss: wait, so you want more wars right. did that guy say military dictatorships
Zero: no, she wants everyone controlled by the government and speaking english duh
Ocelot: what does big boss want, i'll do that
EVA: guys, she said she didn't like borders or politics or wars
Big Boss *ten years later*: wait, no wars. fuck she did say that. what the fuck man. well hold on, i still like the more wars thing
Patriots AI: more wars but lots of fucking money too
Solid Snake: why don't you just stop trying to create wars and politics and shit
Big Boss *fifty years later*: oh god why didn't i think of that, my bad yo

solid still the best snake

I think I'd only be interested in Metal Gear again if Fukushima came back. Seems like he was a large part of what made MGS1+2 special to me when it came to story. I want to see a modern Metal Gear with Fukushima + Shinkawa and no Kojima.

At this is point, I think a MGS book or just something small like a revised database would be enough to satisfy my questions like 'What exactly was big boss doing to form the real outer heaven, where did he get the funds/lands/soldiers/infrastructure/administration etc.

All the stuff that isn't worth it's own game and stuff most people wouldn't want to play anyway.

What was Ocelot doing in those 9 years of coma and the previous 10 before Peace Walker, what happened in the 10 years following MGSV? venom and BB didn't simple sit around waiting for solid to show up surely.

How exactly did raiden rescue sunny from the patriots and end up as a cyborg, i want DETAILS.

Yeah, pretty much. MGSV is just like the last 3 games in regards of weapon variety and usage. There is a ton of stuff to create and use, but in the end you can just stick to 4-5 weapons and be on your merry way without much trouble.

Honestly should I even do Mission 45 or should I just watch it on Youtube and continue using Quiet

From what I understand there's no way to do Mission 45 and still have Quiet right?

But Ocelot tells him to change his identity and even face.
So before MG2 he changed the face back to his original one?

There is no way. Do what I did and just watch it on youtube.

Or he didn't at all because fuck it.

Mgs4 didn't have open environments, side missions, and free roam. Definitely not the same thing... Also, I suggest you go try out atleast the decoys, all the extra stuff is fun to mess with

And after everything, we STILL never got to see the patriots form and then split up.

Pretty much the most pivotal event of the series happens off screen.

Do you guys think people will speedrun this game with every item available ? Like a NG+ Speedrun ?

Simple, he didn't change his face.
Was watching a streamer, said he wanted to come up with a S ranking all missions run. This was like a week ago tho, he was only up to like mission 25 and I don't think he's played the game since. So he might not be planning it anymore.

Unless you mod her back in, that's Quiet's ending. The mission is really awful and the "reward" is worse. probably best to YouTube it if you want to keep using her

Just watch it if you like her as a buddy.

I thought the mission was fun but losing Quiet as a buddy kind of killed it for me. I would have preferred having her as an option at least.

Big Boss's relationship with Zero is really just a complete joke. Everybody thought that according to MGS4, Zero and BB hated each other, but in MGSV it's more like "lol, we're still best buds, everything's cool with us now, it was the AI's fault really that everything went to shit".

The twist is the least of most people's problem with the story. The issue is mainly that it's an empty, unfinished, mess.

And after everything, we STILL never got to see the patriots form and then split up.

Pretty much the most pivotal event of the series happens off screen.

Some things don't have to be on screen. Like the whole time period of post MGS3 to Metal Gear has been pretty unnecessary.

Before I bother with the FOB stuff can some explain how the security cost works? Is it every time somebody invades it costs me that much to defend?

But if Quiet has the English strain, wouldn't Venom have it now too? Since she spoke right over his body.

He was injected with Wolbachia, so the parasites would die over time even if they infected him. Quiet ran off in the first place because she was afraid of the english strain mutating and killing even people who were injected with Wolbachia like in Episode 43.

At least that's what I gathered.
