I always did wonder how the fuck big Boss was the commander of foxhound
and also creating a military nation state. And how zanzibar Land pops up 5 years later when he died. Seems like the BB Era games is trying to justify MG1/MG2's aspects that didn't matter until all these games later.

At the end of Quiet's last mission, they say that Quiet had the 3rd English strain vile or whatever. But Eli clearly has it. Did I miss something?

No, the one Eli has was one of the vials Snake threw into the fire but Mantis took behind his back

Quiet was infected with the third strain she's the carrier but she doesn't talk so she doesn't infect anyone.

Venom Snake throws two vials into the fire but Kid Mantis stops one from going into the fire, keeps it and then gives it to Eli.

This kind of confused me too, though.

Throughout the game, Miller and Venom refer to Mother Base as Outer Heaven. But then at the end, Ocelot says that Big Boss is forming Outer Heaven.

Mantis gets the second tube that Boss throws into the fire, not the 3rd. The 3rd space is empty when he opens it.

Also Mantis is totally fucking ridiculous in this game. He's a floating demi-god who nobody pays any real attention to. I mean there's a fucking kid floating in the air conjuring fire corpses and whales and nobody says a word to the guy.

Nasty? I'm just saying how I feel about his posts; I'm not insulting him or anything. I genuinely think he's judging the game superficially.

I got banned for using the word 'butthurt', which, hilariously, is apparently against the rules.

Anyway, just because I wholeheartedly disagree with people doesn't mean my attitude is nasty. Grow a thicker skin.
I think you do need an attitude check. We could be having a nice critical discussion, but instead you are just shitting up the thread.

He can turn invisible, you know. He did it in MGS1.

I think the hyperbole stems from people's literal preconceived notions on what they thought Kojima was making. Trailers weren't even necessarily misleading, the were vague as all fuck and fans filled in the blanks.

I think the trailers were pretty clear about the story being about revenge and how men become demons, since those words were literally said/shown.

And Kojima himself talking about taboos, and the theme of the game being race(lol where the hell was that in the game?) and revenge.

I always thought the flaming whale would amount to nothing LOST style but I was still disappointed that it did

If you kill Quiet I wonder what Skull Face says when confronted about the third vial.

Yeah didn't they say pre release you could beat the game without ever encountering Quiet? That...doesn't seem to be true. Did anyone kill her? What happens?

Another thing that's bothering me:

In the similar vein of wasting Skull Face as a character, it strikes me as very odd that Skull Face had a scar to match the spot on Venom's head where the horn was. That's weird, right? I feel like they intended to do something with this, but never did.

He isn't powerful enough to read my hard-drive.

Yeah it's pretty strange. And there's the tape where Snake laughs at the idea that he's got psychic powers, after all the shit he's seen.

Made for a killer opening and some great trailers.

.

I feel that a whole pile of the the inconsistencies in MGSV can be chalked up to the desire to make striking, attention grabbing trailers...which would make no sense outside of the vacuum of a trailer and in a proper story.

That's classic Kojima when you think about it...backing himself into corners for no good reason, only to offer half (or no) explanations later on.

Nah, they say he is building the real "Outer Heaven", a full nation, which is what we know as Zanzibar Land.

Also, if you rewatch the Cutscene where Venom destroys the English Strain parasites, he burns one, then Psycho Mantis picks the second canister (it never gets destroyed), and the container was missing the third vial.

Quiet had the Third Parasite strain in her.

It does.

The game is meant to be played episodically. Your argument falls apart if you consume the combination of gameplay and narrative thusly.

Eli's storyline is left unresolved (due to mission 51 being cut) but the rest got resolved and tells a nice story. Saying that it feels unfinished narratively has merit to it, but saying that it feels like half a game (especially since a game is more about gameplay than story, and this game is one of the best games of the year from that perspective) is admitting that you like to smoke crack.
Dude how are you a journo? Seriously, an attitude and a lack of understanding what opinions are landed you a job as a journalist? Fuck, I need to start acting all superior and shit, get myself a nice job.

Why is Spainkiller still here, just to suffer?
I seriously don't know, I hope he's perma banned this time though, the guy just shits all over everybody and their opinions. Guys got an ego like Kojima.

It's very odd.

At first I thought that only Big Medic could see him, and since he's basically a mute, no would know about him.

But then randomly at the end you get an Ocelot tape that literally explains everything about him.

I'm like Ocelot, this information would've been nice to know 60 hours ago you piece of shit.

Yeah it's pretty strange. And there's the tape where Snake laughs at the idea that he's got psychic powers, after all the shit he's seen.

Yeah that made me confused. Didn't you wade through a river of souls made by a dead man?

As for Mantis' powers, I can buy him being a kid making his Psychic powers stronger then when he was grown up, kind of like The Omen.

I they did, but yeah, Mission 11 is unavoidable I believe. But you can run out from the fight if I'm not mistaken, but I don't know if you have to complete it at some point or not.

I'm assuming he's invisible to most people.

Anyway, hilarious how he just controls Sahalanthropus around like an action figure, and then in MGS1 he throws books and chairs at you.

Would've been fun to play "The Truth" as Ishmael. Make it the inverse of MGS2. Also, The Man Who Sold The World should've been Hayter's voice.

Still not satisfied with the ending, or with the general story.

I agree...wish they did something besides just replaying the hospital mission with a different ending.

Also would have loved to have Hayter be Ishmael...but that would have given too much away, unless they would have found a way to have him be silent. Still Hayters voice would not have fit the tone of the game or final cutscene (listening to the BB tape while venom snake looks in the mirror).

I don't mind the story or the twist, I just think there's so many cooler ways they could have handled it.

The demon thing is addressed. "you got sent to hell and you came back". Demon.

Taboos to Kojima probably meant torture child soldiers and the shit like that.

Race was openly addressed with the language speak lmfao. Saying that our true mother land is our language.

It does address those things mentioned, just not in the ways we thought.

I think the hyperbole stems from the trailers themselves, "missing link". That sounds pretty misleading to me since this game has actually created more "missing links" besides ep. 51.

I always thought the flaming whale would amount to nothing LOST style but I was still disappointed that it did

This is the only part of Mantis's "mind manipulation" that I thought was well done. Mantis taps into the psyche of whoever he wishes, their thoughts, emotions and memories allow him to conjure images that only he and them can see.

He conjured the whale in front of Venom because he had the words "Ahab" and "Ishmael" running through his mind at the time. He was even with Ishmael when he saw the whale. I think it's the only real intelligent use of Mantis in the whole damn game.

They were filled with deleted scenes and advertised the game as a revenge story descent into villainy.

In what way is that not misleading?

I can't, for the life of me, get why people harp on the Mantis thing so much. I mean, yeah, you can explain it by him being younger and his powers being at his peak, but he's basically unstoppable in MGS1 as well, until you pull the controller port trick. I don't see what the inconsistency that some are saying is at all.

My theory here is that Liquid is too far away, and like wifi he doesn't have enough power, but the angriest thing around him is Johnny sooooo

So, am I correct to say we STILL aren't 100% certain of the following:

-There are two Big Bosses - you play as the medic turned Big Boss (imposter), and Ishmael is the real Big Boss

-Exactly why (imposter?) Big Boss becomes evil

-What real Big Boss was up to this whole time

-Why the phrase "V has come to" was used so heavily in the trailers

If Mantis was half as powerful in MGS 1 they could fully operate REX using his mind alone.

So yeah, he's much, much weaker.

What kind of ending were you expecting? It's an interquel. If you were looking for the exact moment when Big Boss turned into a villain, you missed it, it was ages ago when he decided that the world needed more and more war forever.

The fact that people don't get this baffles me.
