My biggest question mark left from the game is why would Liquid trust Ocelot? Ocelot is at least as much responsible for Liquid's ill-fated creation as the other Patriots, and treats Liquid the same as Kaz and Venom Snake at MB.

Liquid probably came to respect Big Boss as a soldier, especially after learning Big Boss hated the LET project and they shared a common enemy in the Patriots that created him. Ocelot says he's going to work with the real Big Boss, and the cloned son that will carry his will (which ends up being Liquid), as they fight against the Patriots.

Miller supports the Phantom Big Boss and leads to him creating Outer Heaven. When Phantom Big Boss is killed, he helps Solid Snake in his mission to Zanzibar Land because it will result in Big Boss's defeat. Miller really is a petty asshole that never grew up from being that pissy misfit half-Japanese kid. He openly admits this in one talk about the child soldiers.

Also, I'm a bit fuzzy on the memory of MGS4 events, but don't they say that Liquid and Solidus are both in on the plan to destroy the Patriots, and it's Solid Snake's meddling that perpetuates the Patriots system? Which is why they're both on Outer Haven's Mount Snakemore?

This. Venom is just a good guy all around. Truly a man worthy of following. Move over BB, V has come to.
V is honestly one of the most heroic characters in the series, and one of the most interesting when the game isn't hellbent on making him into a player avatar. He's Big Boss but he's not, he's a lover and a poet in addition to being a soldier. His hallucinations show that he can't get over not being able to save Paz and failing his job as a medic.

Despite this it makes total sense how he'd become Big Boss' phantom by Metal Gear 1. He's a good guy in a shady business surrounded by shady characters and secretly guided by the real Big Boss whose orders and will he'll follow no matter what they are.

It's easy to joke about how Venom subverts the Big Boss revenge story by being such a nice guy, which he does, but on his own he is a very, very interesting character and I wish he was explored more. I'm just parroting this over and over by this point though. I really like V.

"Anime was mistake. It's nothing but trash".

It would work better with this one in the background:

What games would you say deserve that stamp of quality? I'm curious.

Wait, How does it explain away Gray Fox's absence?

Because Grey Fox was with the real Big Boss. He was loyal to the real Big Boss and so he was sent to assassinate the Phantom Big Boss, and that's why he's on Big Boss's side in the Zanzibar Land incident. He was always on Big Boss's side from the beginning of Metal Gear.

This thread moves really fast.

I guess I wanna say I really liked the ending. Sure, you can tell Konami got fed up with Kojima and made a lot of cuts but the twist was pretty awesome.

I like how much it 'changes' Metal Gear. None of my friends around me have beaten it yet, so I'm kind of going crazy not being able to talk about it.

It seems like a lot of you don't like it, and I think that's fine. I like reading why people like or don't like it.

Good stuff!

That's pushing it a bit... I mean... you don't really see that. You see him prepare to remove it and then you hear her screaming, but you don't see anything the camera pans around and the scene is over fairly fast.
You see the medic ready to fist her to pull a bomb out.., wtf! I wish there was an uproar from gamers about this disgusting view of women. It's not taboo to be a pig game developer, it's a shame.

So at the end of the game, when venom punches the mirror, its during the outer heaven invasion where snake kills the Phantom big boss?

That's the implication as you can hear commotion going on outside.

Though it doesn't sit right with me as it's canon that big boss looked like this during that time.

I wish they hadn't wasted Phantom Big Boss by making him die in Metal Gear 1.

The series on the Solid side really needed a new villain, and a new Big Boss that had been laying low would have helped.

Eh, I think we can excuse that as a resources thing.

Venom got plastic surgery, so it makes sense he'd look relatively the same even eleven years later. He was also likely younger than Boss by quite a bit to begin with. Makes you wonder how Big Boss managed his public face at that point. Was Venom his field agent by that point? The soldier side of Boss while Boss himself led FOXHOUND and did all the political stuff he was doing? It's not really clear.

What the hell are you even talking about, and why would it in any way apply to me or the discussion at hand?

Besides, your point isn't even correct as I was pointing to the fact that father/daughter relationships go over well with gaming audiences today, not father/son relationships.

If you need me to tell you how they're different then I can't help you.
Does it matter? Father/Son, father/daughter? It's the same fucking thing. so yes, my point is correct. What's different between a bond between father/son and father/daughter? Nothing.

Why wouldn't it apply to you? Your trying to shit all over games and their respected writers as well as shit all over people in their 30's who have kids because those types of games appeal to them. Dude get a grip, how is TLOU aimed at 30 year old dudes with daughters? What?

Wheres the horn. Also, wasn't Big Boss fixed with Solidus body parts in MGS4. Is that just a pointless detail now?

Can't wait for THE MISSING LINK in the MGS story.

I brought that up the other day as well. Plastic surgery is commonly used to either delay the ageing process or reverse the ageing process. I guess the same could apply to Venom.

I actually just finished the Paz thing last night. I think it's one of the better parts of the game.

Can you finish the Paz part without having finished the last mission? It feels meant to be experienced after the twist.

Honestly I really wish Kojima didn't make him some silent player avatar, wish I could stop him from ever watching Mad Max.

Venom is really deep down a sweet nice guy getting led down a dark path by the people he looks up to, such a good story there.

Eh, I think we can excuse that as a resources thing.

Kojima has never been one to forgo small details like this.

Hell that fact is evident in that scene itself where you can see the Diamond Dogs logo change to the outer heaven logo for like less than a second.

That is an incredibly small (and cool) detail to add, which makes it all the more of a shame that they didn't bother to move the colour slider on Venoms hair model from brown to grey.

Shit, he still has his horn and his hair can still be brown right before he punches the mirror, so the argument that dumb dumbs will be 'WHO'S THIS NEW GUY' goes out the window.

It would have been a great visual trick to show the passage of time.

That's the story of this game 'It would have been great if...'

That's how I did it, but it's funny you mention that. I feel it's better suited to be played before the twist.

Wait, what? What Paz thing? I know this is the spoiler thread but what do I need to do without spoiling it? :o

The problem is that Solid fights him, but Solid was sent there by OG Big Boss, whom he knew personally.

So Solid suddenly sees Big Boss revert a dozen years of aging?

Prolly means that Big Boss didn't look that old until Zanzibar Land.

There's a shitload of details in MGSV that Kojima forgot to remove or change. Anyway what did you want them to do? Go back 20 years and change the official art? Big Boss in MG1 has been retconned so that artwork isn't canon anymore unless it's artwork of the real BB.

This really shows prominently in the cut episode 51, where he shows such desperation to save Eli from XOF despite him being the source of so many problems at that point because he's a kid. When he accidentally shoots him you can hear the pain in his voice when he screams "NOOOOOO!!!"

And yeah, Max Max'ing V Boss was a terrible idea.

They should remake MG 1 and 2 already.

MG1 remake should have been part of MGS V, really. As others sugested, the final chapter is you as Solid Snake in N313 navigating through Outer Heaven to kill Ahab. It would be even better if the game had more interesting bosses that you could recruit to be part of your crew, and you'd have to fight them as Solid Snake as well. The more you improved your crew and your base, the harder it would be for you later as Solid Snake.

Though that's probably way too unrealistic when it comes to budget and development time.

That's the story of this game 'It would have been great if...'

Pretty much. The wasted potential is the worst part about it.

That's BB in MG2. Though yeah, he should look older during that period.

That's funny as I am. You love your kids THE SAME.

Sure you are bud...

I'm sure when your daughter is a teenager you'll not at all be protective of her in relation to boys shes dating in a way you wouldn't be around your son dating girls

THEY'RE THE SAME!

The Intrude N313 tape brings up a lot of questions for me. What year does he receive the tape? It's implied that Phantom Big Boss receives the tape detailing the plan in 1984-1985, as evidenced by the Diamond Dog logos still being around and then the logo shifts to Outer Heaven around this eriod on the time line.

Operation Intrude N313 took place in 1995. This would mean that Phantom Big Boss was somewhat compliant with real Big Boss roughly a decade before the events of Metal Gear, or at least letting him think he planned to go along with it.

So did Phantom Big Boss really go insane and rebel against Big Boss's wishes, or was the Outer Heaven operation a set up to allow for the legend to be consolidated behind one Big Boss when the Zanzibar Land incident finally went down as Big Boss's real power play?

Wait, you finished it before or after?

I thought it would be better after the fact since he was the medic on the chopper and he didn't find the other bomb. When you first find Paz on the medical platform, you have a fantasy flashback where the second bomb was removed.

i believe so. that's pretty fucking brilliant the more i think about it. i always felt like the post mgs3 timeline made big boss running outer heaven and simultaneously running foxhound and sending solid snake in to fight himself made no fucking sense at all.

i mean, it's kind of messy, but the path of everything makes more sense now. i only wish the same can be said for liquid, i can't really see his path at the end of this game (cut content or otherwise) leads into what we see in MGS with him in foxhound.

MGSV! the game that will link the entire series and tie up loose ends!

How am I supposed to respond to this post? I have just told you I have children, that should be enough.

What does my daughter having a boyfriend when she's a teenager have to do with father/daughter relationships in TLOU, TWD etc? The fathers or father figures in those games protect their daughters from DANGER not from a spotty teen who's trying to get them into bed. Your argument is flawed.

In the situation presented to you in those games, you would protect your children no matter what the cost would be, it doesn't matter whether it's a male or female.

Our only hope is Sony hires Kojima, and buys the Metal gear franchise from Konami
