I know a lot people have only joined this thread since completing the game, but a lot of us have known about The Medic being Venom Snake since 25th August:

Not saying that makes us anymore knowledgeable or cooler, it's just that many of us played through the game knowing we weren't Big Boss and have had a little more time for this twist to sink in ;-)

Well I think it was before that, Ground Zeroes PC version was ripped open at the start of the year and people already suspected/saw that the Medic's face model being shaped like Big Boss's without the beard, hair or skin texture was a pretty big red flag, along with the fact he was clearly voiced by Keifer.

Yeah so obvious. Nothing to get spoiled about. /s
I just assumed that the entire point was to make you suspect you or everyone around you weren't what they seemed but that the fun was in getting to see how/why it was like that.
Well I was excited at the prospect of not playing Big Boss because I really wanted to know who you actually were, because I thought THAT was the twist, not the fact you weren't Big Boss.

Yeah well, good job for ruining it for yourself and others i guess.

Everyone was in the Spoiler Thread so they could spoil it for themselves and that was their decision to make. I never personally posted any of this information outside of a spoiler thread anywhere ;-)

Man, Dawg spoiled Quiet talking, kinda can't forget that he did that. Also him saying he did not spoil the thing in the community thread. Haha.
Love you Dawg, but you did spoil it.

I thought I was going to be bothered by that revelation being spoiled, up until she appears 2 minutes into the game speaking on a radio, then I was like "Oh pfft, that barely counts"

If you're remotely familiar with Kojima, that song should have immediately made you think "None of this is real, you're probably not even Big Boss"

There was enough doubt with how real bandage dude was that I threw that theory out of my head after I saw him "vanish" from the crash and from my original PoV get turned into swiss cheese during that hallway bloodbath.

Looking back now at all the little hints it's very obvious, but when you have a train of thought going with "Well this happened to obviously he could't be Big Boss" it's hard to see all the smaller details.

At best I assumed I was dealing with an unreliable narrator for the intro, but instead that got flipped on it's head and Venom was actually completely reliable.

I suspected the twist since the moment you are made to make an avatar and then keep playing as big boss in the intro mission.

Didn't really think much of it afterwards since it makes little difference.

What's the point of the Truth: The man who sold everything mission, where, as far as I can tell, only has a small change at the start (you are showed your avatar face in the mirror), and an extra scene at the end?

Sure but my point of view stands ;)

To solidify that you're not Big Boss.

Nah, at that point I was thinking, Kojima you trolling bastard. But the first time where I realised I was not Big Boss was when you meet the AI pod.

Mission 46 was so lazy, I was expecting things to be shown slightly differently throughout, which could have made it interesting.
Starting with where Snake is strangled by Quiet and blacks out.

Should have changed something else in the middle of the mission.

Such a waste of time.

I guess there are little details here or there, but by that time I was already 20 hours into the game, and had been standing on top of a building for like an hour until I realized the door I was required to go in was guarded, instead of the automatic ones that just beeped at me when I approached them.

Didn't really think much of the AI.

I wouldn't call it "lazy" because i'm pretty sure having the EXACT same level as the prologue at the end was not planned, you can tell a lot of shit happened during this game's development.

It even has all the tutorial prompts for no reason.

The concept of mission 46 is sound, but the execution flawed. After the initial reveal there is little reason to replay the entire prologue. I get it, I'm not Big Boss, fine. O wait, I have to play everything again? Great..

It should've cut/faded from the explosion in the hallway when you first see Mantis to the ambulance crash or something.

It was actually pretty funny being in this thread after I leaked the spoilers. First everyone went nuts, then some said it was fake, some accused me of being employed by Konami to spread fake spoilers.

Then the leaked copies were datamined and the ripped subtitles confirmed my leaks and we were all friends again ;-)

Just a shame that no major news outlets could report on the leaks because of NDA's, it was great knowing we were taking part in one of the biggest video-game news stories of the year :-)

wtfffffffffffff you guys in the spoiler thread went in hard blowing the entire game up for yourselves before it even came out, WTF! why??

um...not really a news story..just the plot of the game before it's release date, aka someone got a copy early. but ok?

I was recently talking about MGSV with my cousin, and I think one of the major missed opportunities are psychological and insanity effects, Venom should have been seeing shit throughout the entire game, especially after suffering from major damage, they could have done so many cool details, like you're running around Motherbase and you suddenly yourself or The Boss or someone walking around a corner just out of view, just moments of "...Did I just see that?"

Lol no shit. Why do that to yourself?

I didn't got anything ruined, i only joined this thread after beating the game.

All i know is that the spoiler thread was very active at that time, makes you wonder why so many people did this to themselves but ok, their decision.

To me, the major plot twist of one of the biggest video-games of the year being being leaked a week before it was released is pretty big. But if it's not to you, that OK too ;-)

Also, the first day the street date was broken was 25th August in Belgium, so very few people could have got this far in the game already. Guess you just had to be here at the time :-)

You also have both eyes throughout the mission and lose one during the car crash!

I just assumed it was a badly placed character creator for the online mode. Didn't think much of it.

I only joined this thread after beating the game. I pretty much went on a complete forum/facebook/twitter blackout to ensure i didn't have anything spoiled.

Sure the twist might have been obvious and theorised for a long time, but i still wasn't suspecting it until I saw the aftermath of ground zeroes in mission 46. Then i was like "no, you havent Kojima, oh my god you actually did"

And it made the scene so worthwhile.

Quiet showering with all the guards hooting and hollering might be one of the worst things I've seen in a game. ...".... ooooh yeah she is a naughty girl...."

posts like that that just come in and call the story a mess but don't say why reek of failure to understand that game. happened a few pages back as well. it's one thing to not like it. it's another to call it "messy" and not explain why. if you tried to pay attention to the game, how can you call it messy?

it's messy within the context of it being a straight-forward sequel to metal gear solid. it's meant to a be a mindfuck

As soon as I read that spoiler from Brazil's 'no spoiler' preview thread I knew how it was going to go, but already suspected it.
I realised it would be the 'nerd' scene in MGS2 with a new spin on it.

Nah I knew you hadn't, I just was flicking through the reactions to that post that outlines the entire game lol.

If someone had destroyed that plot twist for me I would have really struggled to get through the game. The twist, as crazy as it was, was awesome.

My gripes are with the cut content, the poor boss fights, and the lack of closure. Venom not speaking a lot? It least it fits with the narrative; dude didn't know WTF was goin on.
