the relationship between quiet and snake is so forced. i groaned when ocelot said she was in love with the legend because it literally came out of nowhere. one minute they're killing each other, the next she's in love with him? lol. they don't even speak to each other. boss just gives her commands.

There was way more weight to Ocelot saying "I was love with the legend, too" in that same scene. The more I think about it, the more Quiet looks like a basic plant in the story to make Ocelot and Miller (the real love interests) all flustered and jealous.

What will it be, Boss? Your very loyal but probably psychotic and super jealous best friend, or your more laid back, but probably stabbing you in the back, former rival who finally got senpai to notice him?

A better writer could have come up with a way to make the same "this legend is shaped by you, thanks for playing" metaphor than having you literally create a character who gets his face and mind altered to become the main charcter's double, shitting up the series timeline in the process.

Big Boss has become a legend by ending the Skull Face threat. Now you can continue to build that legend through further gameplay and downloadable content.

I think Ocelot is gay. In Snake Eater he was awkward towards Eva (almost seeing her as a rival) and all over BB. TPP confirms he was in love with the legend. That statement could ofcourse go both ways, but I think its a hint towards his sexual preference.

Expects Ocelot X Snake rain scene.

I neet to board that train!

It's kind of hard to know what any of his motivations are, and MGS is not the series that's going to maturely handle any sort of relationship drama (love blooming on the battlefield and all that), but the thirst seemed pretty real in MGS3.

Regarding the Mantis stuff, would it make any sense for some sort of quasi-Peter Stillman (the City of Glass character) thing to be happening with him along with the whole 'kid psychics are just more powerful' angle? Depending on how young he was when his village burnt down, it's possible that his language capabilities were still fairly undeveloped, minimising the restrictions on the manifestation of his powers, and explaining why he's so mute - he would think mainly in emotions and images rather than words or defined concepts; reflected in how large-scale and unfocused the effects of his power are. As he re-integrates into society and gains a more defined sense of self, his power's manifestation would refocus; giving rise to his mind-controlling and fourth-wall-breaking actions in the first game, as well as allowing him to work as a psych profiler in the first place; at the cost of the scope he's shown as being able to work at here.

Ocelot was definitely in love with Big Boss, look what happened after his hypnosis wore off in MGS4, on top of his blatant attraction to him in 3. Really, Ocelot's drastically reduced sexual tension with (who he's made himself to believe is) Snake compared to the rest of the series is the greatest disservice the game does to his character.

Not being able to access the bike is Konami's revenge on the world for something or other.

The burger thing legitimately frustrated me. Because people were all like "ho ho there's a bunch of goofy burger tapes" and here I was thinking that would be some dumb silly fun written by a dude who fills his twitter with food porn and squeezes wanky food dialogue in every game he's made.

But no. Let's pump these burgers full of shit because that's what makes them taste good. As a burger connoisseur (aka wanker) I'm borderline offended at this filth.
The fact that the burgers are chemical burgers is a joke. He's making fun of fast food culture. I'm sure kojima isn't a fan of it.

I actually really enjoy this game but thought this was funny.

That is incredible. The meta-narrative of MGS2 has been surpassed. There's a whole new 'it's supposed to be terrible' king in town.

Eh, that's not how I read it. I agree with Code Talker that the filthiest, most unhealthiest burgers are often the tastiest. I wouldn't be surprised if Kojima does too. It's hardly meant to be a health food, is it?

I'm sorry :)

Must have been frustrating sticking with it for this long then because outside of MGS1 Snake Eater they pretty much miss the mark in every important way. The story has always been an irreconcilable mess. MGS2 in particular suffers from being horribly unfinished, even more so than V. ah well, in another 5 years we might get to see Konami horribly retcon everything and fill in the gaps from V....while leaving a bunch of new unfinished plot threads and nonsensical bullshit to be mad about. I for one have always played for the Gameplay first and enjoyed the story for what it is. I certainly enjoyed V, or at least many parts of it.

Someone mentioned on Reddit how none of the missions in The Phantom Pain do shit like listening to a tape to mentally backtrack the location of a prisoner.

Ground Zeroes was really good.

Yep.

Did everyone see the scene where they meet on the boat? The first time I didn't trigger it for some reason and he was just fighting me, I might have tossed a smoke grenade up there or something.

When I got there he was sleeping. I can't remember if I shot him with the tranq pistol or tried to grab him but either way he just woke up and punched me without a cutscene.

Ground zeroes had also more personality because of BB commenting on the mission during gameplay. He already acted like a mute compared to old MGS, but TPP brings it to a completely new level.

Very accurate interpretation. Kojima is a genius.

This is Metal Gear, you absolutely know someone will start making that argument in total seriousness sooner or later. That plus the 'cut content was designed to make you feel a phantom pain' which I've already seen quite a bit.

The lesson here is to ruse people for long enough and literally everything you say and do will be held to be intentional and brilliant no matter how badly you fuck up, like Brian preaching to the masses after they are convinced he is god:

"I'm not the Messiah, honestly!"
"Only the true Messiah would deny his divinity!"
"What? Well, what sort of chance does that give me? All right, I am the Messiah!"
"I knew it! I knew it! He IS the Messiah!"

We saw the exact attitude as those quotes with the Hayter thing, which was absurdly ridiculous. Every blunt denial was actually confirmation, and if they'd confirmed it, well, that would have been confirmation too. It's an amazing place Kojima has brought his fans, it really is.

"Kojima's such a troll, you guys!"

Yeah, I know. I was joking bruh.

I am livid. I come in here after the twist thinking I saw everything there is to see in the game and I see mission 51. Now I think there is an actual mission 51 but nooooooo it's a deleted mission?!?! So you are telling me the final boss, the final mission, the actual ending to the story WAS FUCKING CUT!!!! Are you fucking shitting me!!

I am pissed.

Well, there is a really cool mission where you can track where a target is going via the directional mic.

Because GZ is about Boss and PP is about Phantom. Phantom Pain made you dislike the Phantom Boss so you'd love the real Boss even more and he'd become even more of legend. Giddit?

I've never had a shitty fast food burger in my life, so maybe I'm biased.

So, is your staff supposed to know who you really are?

I was running around MB making my peeps salute me when I saw a guy on an elevated platform on my fourth Cmd-platform.
I'm climbing up there, he salutes me and says: "No matter who you are, you're still my CO, Boss."
