I wonder if it was a mistake of them to keep in the chapter screens, would there have been anywhere near as much of a backlash?
Honestly the game feels like a full game. But the way it just ends is pretty abrupt(even for the 2nd chapter). Nothing really prompted the recall and replaying of the prologue. Shit came out of nowher. The game as is has no business segmenting itself in chapters. It makes for criticizing how incredibly truncated ch 2 was even with the replayed missions. It might not be criticized as much but the giant metal gear size plot hole would still remain and that's enough for anyone to feel a little salty. Even moreso when Kojipro straight up says, looks, we had all this other stuff planned to resolve the plot but couldn't put it in for reasons...sorry ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Why would it be any different than Kiefer voice them all?

I sort of remember people saying that maybe they were just getting their money's worth for Kiefer, that they had him in the studio anyway and the medic had like two lines etc etc...and as far as Ishmael goes, I kind of assumed that he was a figment of BB's imagination, a sort of hallucination/Fight Club type scenario (the whole "you're talking to yourself" thing).

I mean, personally I never thought we would be playing as anyone but BB, mostly because everyone I saw supporting that theory said it'd be Gray Fox, and that just never held any water with me. Never suspected the no-name medic who is apparently MAH BEST GUY would end up playing Big Boss.

as the days go by, I think I like the ending twist

I mean, I'd rather we just played as normal big boss

but if you're going to pay shitty kiefer to record 20 minutes of dialogue for the game, then yeah, he better be voicing fake ass impostor mute big boss

hayter is the real big boss and he's a chatty mother fucker questioning every word he hears /headcanon

Except that Sutherland voices GZ and the real Big Boss in TPP

The only thing that MGS4 does better is delivering its promise on closure, and the game and story is being played and told via proper progression.

For the rest its a more awful game than V. There is hardly any game in there past the first Act, way too many steps back from MGS3 except for move and shoot.

But V kind of fails to erase the disappointment of 4 and PW. It shouldn't have followed PW as much as I agree this is Peace Walker 2 through and through. Its a direct sequel in every way.

The twist would be fine if it wasn't the last thing in the game thrown out there for little reason because nothing happens after it.

Like the Raiden twist in MGS2 happens very early so it has time to work and build up. The Venom Snake twist is the opposite.

Kojima Productions LA branch did great job. I would have probably gone crazy if I had to evade all the spoilers on the internet these past two weeks.

Such a lust for Extreme Missions?

Extreme-Asian-Announcement-At-The-Podium-Reaction-Gif.gif

fuckin yes.

I can't believe there's not difficulty settings like in Ground Zeroes. I love the game as is when it comes to gameplay of course but if they were to add a hard mode as well as a Subsistence mode it would make the game a thousand times better.

Also, as Ishmale he's talking a whole lot in the prologue. BB is as talkative as ever.

So I randomly saw a pre E3 2012 interview with Kojima where he says the game will deal with Race. Chapter 2 is even called race... Then it's never touched on.

I really hope we find out just what the hell happened fully one day.

That scene surprised me because I fully expected to get the bucket from Ocelot since I had scene the non-Quiet version in the pre release marketing, but then she showed up.

Very awkward, and very Metal Gear. It was great.

I imagine how the conversation went between Mother Base soldiers about their icon and mentor Big Boss and Quiet the sniper who's totally an infiltrated agent :
Hey man
Hey
Did you see the Boss ? He came back from a mission.
Yeah he kind of stank. A lot.
And Quiet ?
What ?! Something happened ?
Yeah she's gonna take a shower with the boss.
Oh man let's go watch and fap about it later

Not even the MGSV dancing in the rain cutscene made me cringe as hard as the Johnny/Murl shootout. Or the wedding scene, for that matter.

MGS4 doesn't give a FUCK.
Yeah well give me the Mr. Shittypants / Miss Nopants "Pirates of the Caribbean" shootout over Quiet dancing in the rain, any day.

HEADCANON

As much as I miss Hayter, the twist would have been even more obvious if the medic, BB, and Ishmael all had Hayter's voice.

my perfect dream scenario:

-Ishmael doesn't talk at all
-medic is kiefer
-those last couple of lines from big boss at the end of the game are voiced by hayter.

why does big boss sound like kiefer in ground zeroes?

psycho mantis magic fuckery

The saddest thing about all this is, that we may never find out why.

MGS2 Ocelot actually has personality and purpose.

MGSV Ocelot is just a tool [almost literally].

Mgs2 Ocelot is probably the best version of that character, he's such a badass in that game -- intimidating, always scheming. In Mgs3 he was a rookie but had great character development. In Mgs1 he felt like a cartoon villain, Mgs4 was a bit weird and finally in V he's a herbalist.

I loved that the twist also applies to the theme of 'phantom pain' the player experience.

That little emply feeling that Big Boss is gone and you'll never play as him again. But you can as his 'prosthesis' that mimics him just not the real thing.

Nah Hayter is excellent in 1 and 2. But I think he jumped the shark when he also had to do BB. It should've been a different VA way back.

Real BB actually talks quite a bit. He does in GZ and in TPP. Its Venom thats a mute for somewhat obvious reasons. But it works against the game. And it wastes Kiefer's involvement with this, unless they paid him per line spoken or something.

i've come around on the remixed missions. subsistence ones especially. i like the 'back to basics' approach they have.

They're good but that's because the original versions are good. I don't think they actually change anything about the missions themselves besides cranking up some enemy stats.

I really wish there was a subsistence version of every mission. The game won't even let you manually remove your primary and secondary weapons from your loadout for normal missions, so it's not even as if you can choose to go in naked. And even if you could, there's usually not much of a variety of equipment available for you to find in the various levels, just the typical guns, maybe a suppressor or grenade if you're lucky.

MGS4 doesn't give a FUCK.

MGS4's scene with Meryl and Johnny was supposed to be corny as fuck. That was the whole point.

MGSV's rain scene was supposed to be cute and endearing showing the relationship between Venom and Quiet. And it failed miserably.

If someone not familiar with Metal Gear saw the Meryl/Johnny scene, they would simply go: "What kind of a terrible comedy is this? A sequel to Mr. and Ms. Smith?"

If they saw the Quiet rain scene they would probably think I'm some sort of disgusting pervert.

MGSV's scene is WAY worse.

Thats why im starting to appreciate 4 more.
Some shit i truly despise(map design, Old Snake, Meryl/Johnny) but 4 doesn't give a damn.
Goes all out, non-stop.

Every true metal gear fan knows that this is not MGS5. The MGS franchise was over and done with MGS4.

Phantom Pain is Peace Walker 2 when it's all said and done.
I'm glad I'm not a true metal gear fan so I can look past meaningless semantics like this.

Well, not saying this would be a good idea but you could have made that work without spoiling the twist. I mean, to uncover the twist we had to actually replay the entire Hospital mission again with slight variaions because the Medic's perception of events was all fumbled at the beginning. You could have had Hayter voice Ishmael in the second version of the Hospital because the first version wasn't what happened anyway.

As far as GZ you just have to do something similar, say that was the mission playing through Medic's head through the treatment he was getting to believe he was Big Boss. I almost thought that was where they were going with the Paz weirdness and showing a version of GZ where they recovered the second bomb, then of course it goes back to how things were before at the end of that subplot.

Edit: Nevermind, I misinterpreted your comment and thought you meant making Hayter the real BB rather than if all Snakes were Hayter in general. :p Yeah, that would have been even more obvious.

Every true MG fan knows that the fact PW wasn't MGS5 because of a stupid thing like the fact it was portable makes no sense.

So you're right, MGSV isnt MGS5.

Sort of

Not really.
Still unsure why PW isn't 5.

Because Kojima was just going to set a basic outline and then have not much to do with the game. But he has such a lust for control... and who will deny him that control?

lmao

I wish I could play 4 again but I'd need another PS3. This is the one game that really needs an HD port since it's only available on one console.

There is not a single scene in TPP that is as powerful as the post Peace Walker battle cinematic, at least in my opinion. I'm taking about the one with the Pentagon guys about to launch the US' nuclear arsenal against Russia.

I agree. MGS4 goes full crazy AND awesome.

I feel like if they hire an actual writer then it will just turn out like some generic Hollywood wannabe game...which I realize is kind of ironic.

I like the uniqueness, quirks, and stupidity of MGS the way it is now.
It's not like you can't hire a writer who doesn't have some over the top comic book-esque sensibilities.

This. I loved that scene so much.
I miss you Hayter ;-; so so much.

But yeah, MGSV has nothing on this scene. Anyone who says this game is pointless didn't get to here.

It's not the quite the same as dumb over the top nonsense. Kojima MGS games have that unique feeling where he's pawing at realistic concepts and philosophy like a first year college student but also has the money/time to actually research the surface level information to name drop in 20 minute exposition dumps. Not to mention all the little gameplay details that no one in their right might would spend time and effort into including.

MGSV is the Darko Milicic of Metal Gear. In International play, Milicic was a great basketball player, however, on the biggest stage, the NBA, he was a journeyman who could never find a home for himself. MGSV is an amazing game in 2015 where open world is the way to go and stacks up well with the likes of The Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight-- but it doesn't hold a candle to the rest of the series.

Peace Walker is King in my eyes. 2 will always be my favorite, but Peace Walker nailed everything that this game should have.

Fucking awesome.

One of my favorite scenes in the franchise. Such a scene DESERVED to be in Metal Gear Solid 5. We never got such a powerful scene in the "real" MGSV....

people were not wrong about hayter's performance. yikes.

He was fine. His voice was a parody of his original performances just like the series itself has been becoming a parody of itself. It fits perfectly. Besides, no one can argue that at least Hayter's yelling and screaming are WAY better than what we got with Sutherland.

I agree. MGS4 goes full crazy AND awesome.

I think my biggest problem with V is that there isn't a single "holy shit " moment in the entire game when I could name every moment like that in the series as they are so memorable.
