The problem with that is not sounding like an anime dub doesn't fit this series. Sutherland not only sounds out of place, but sounds like he's not even trying.

Him and Baker are the most natural sounding members of the cast, but that also makes them the most inappropriate.

That problem doesn't exist for me, because good voice acting always made anime better and it also makes this better.

One thing I like about the game ; the facial expressions. I think they're terrific, especially for the main characters.

Special mention to Venom's terrified face on the mirror when Quiet kills the Dr and when Ocelot appears in front of him crying "I'm on your side !"

Huey's facial animations are great in the torture scenes too. Brilliant facial capture going on.

I'm trying to get back to Ngumba Industrial Zone to revisit the area, only to arrive at the collapsed tunnel.

Please tell me there's another way in...

I have also felt, from GZ onwards, that Sutherland doesn't even sound like he's on the same continent as the rest of the voice cast. Obviously they didn't all record together, but the audio mix has Venom often sounding like he's not... there. I can never put my finger on why it is though.

Randolph, Horan, Atkin Downes and the guy who did Zero are easily the best sounding actors in this game.

Sutherland pales in comparison to their performances.

Open world games are not my favorite genre admittedly, but compared to say, Far Cry 4 (which I enjoyed a lot) this is sooo much more intricately designed it's not even funny.

Even though there's less superfluous checklist stuff to do.

Im just amazed they didn't use the open world design to do better versions of similar stuff from past games.
Liquid Jeep scene
Eva's two motorcycle chase scenes(imagining a pre Sahelanthropis fight while being driven on a bike.)
The Drebin Stryker scene from 4.

Would have been so much better with an open world design like V.

Exactly. I feel the same way. I know you may disagree with me on the following, but MGS4 gave me the scene with Ocelot taking control of the world's armament in the Volta. It was a scene where he basically became the "military god" of the world. Weapons acted upon his command.

Peace Walker gave us that scene with NORAD going apeshit and Peace Walker drowning itself in the ocean to stop the data transmission. And we also got one of the best scenes in the series: Big Boss finally rejecting The Boss' way of life by first saluting her sacrifice, then hesitating, and finally throwing away his bandana which was a memento of her former Master.

MGSV simply cannot compete against those moments.
While I don't think the whole game is as wholly consistent as those games, I would say Mission 43 easily matches that sort of intensity, while also making it playable.

Holy shit.

Maybe the parasites got the better of Skull Face but he was great in GZ and the TPP tapes.

In TPP as a villain though, he was terrible. Ofcourse he had the best scene and line in the game, but for the wrong reasons.

At least it had a goddamn boss fight.

V still had better boss fights. Quiet, The sniper skulls and Sahelanthropus were better than any boss in PW.

Skull face wearing a mask must be because Kojima needed a subtle way to show on Mantis when he was leeching of SFs lust for revenge. I mean, the hat would just look silly wouldn't it.

Would anyone dispute that Phantom Pain/ground zeroes is the gameplay king of the series? Just curious...

I think in terms of control, how you can interact with enemies and the options at your disposal it's easily the best. I think the level design is pretty weak in a lot of Phantom Pain though and never really brings out the full potential of the system.

Bad comparison, as Ghost in the Shell is for the most part a serious story. Metal Gear is a lot crazier, more ridiculous, more goofy and a lot sillier. Ghost in the Shell NEEDS a more subtle performance. Metal Gear, on the other hand, doesn't.

The same people who deride MGS for it's pseudo science and philosophy definitely take issue with any anime that tries to take itself seriously, as being equally pretentious, and consider it ridiculous, goofy and silly just by virtue of it's medium being a "cartoon" - in fact, that's why so many people loathe anime, no matter what srs biz classic you recommend.

Pick whatever anime you want then. Akira. Tetsuooooooooooooooo = Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. There's no creative virtue in devolving Akira to be full-on Dragon Ball Z just because it has a couple nuclear-style explosions in it and a guy that flies with "powers"

Nobody sane is going to ask for the voice of Scooby Doo in Metal Gear just to facilitate an outlandish lack of seriousness that you guys think is necessary to accentuate the moments of levity and self-aware gameification. Should Code Talker sound more like Homer Simpson all the time just because there's an amusing set of tapes about burgers?

The voice acting in this game isn't good, outside of Horan, Atkin Downes, and Zero.

Everything sounds excellent to me and Zero definitely is not even close to a highlight for me, out of all the ones you could have picked.

There is not a single scene in TPP that is as powerful as the post Peace Walker battle cinematic, at least in my opinion. I'm taking about the one with the Pentagon guys about to launch the US' nuclear arsenal against Russia.

I agree. MGS4 goes full crazy AND awesome.

Something like this is the all the evidence I need that I differ so drastically from the typical MGS fan.

Holy hell, that cutscene is still awful. Christ, I'm surprised I was able to stomach that the first (and only) time I played PW.

I said this yesterday and I think this is actually the reason. When they blow it off it doesn't seem he looks any different, so its not the parasites or something. Or he loves Zorro.

I'm glad I could be reminded today that nothing will ever be as bad as the "it's thinking with its heart" line.

Huey deserved to suffer more.

Holy shit.

I don't see how anyone can understand what that character was doing half the time. Let alone who was controlling? Him. I'm still super confused as to who he was trying to kill at the hospital. At first I thought he was there to kill Snake, then It looked like he was protecting Snake from the soldiers.

How was he being controlled by Venom, or Eli? I can see SkullFace using him but controlling no.

MGSV was missing a character to beat into our heads what was going on and tell us hours of backstory

Yeah I found out when I S ranked it the easiest way to kill him was to start the mission with your beefiest LMG, and a Bradley. Get in the Bradley and just keep shooting the body parts till they each break individually.

Even the Brennan wasn't as good as the soviet LMG from what I could tell.

lol, I just tried it again with one of the armored personnel vehicles that have an autocannon, that was even easier. No overheat, takes out parts fast, you can even get rid of the metallic archaea mist quick while sitting in it because of how much damage it does.

Its explained, he uses the rage of others.

It also proved to be SF's demise. Liquid was the true monster. The plothole here though is that Miller has more hate than all of them combined.

So the thing that's not the open world?

Glad we agree open world doesn't matter.

There's something to be said for free roaming approach to those situations. What "open world" means in this context is semantics anyway. Both maps are beautiful and feel more realistic and tangible compared to most other games.

I'd rather take some breathing space between side ops, listening to tapes, before tackling the next objective. The option to pick them out from a menu is presented as well.

He's influenced by the emotions of others due to his psychic powers, and thus he basically works for them as long as he is influenced by them. Volgin's anger compelled him to the hospital, but later he is influenced by Snake's emotions and potential fears and protects him. Then he works for Skullface due to Skullface's thirst for revenge influencing him.

The stronger emotion, though, is Eli's hatred, which is the final thing that influences him and he stays on Eli's side until the end of the story.

He's basically a blank slate, a tool for whoever has the most "rage" or whatever. They're effectively borrowing his powers.

In the hospital, it's Volgin using Mantis (note the flaming sleeves) for most of the time. When the whale wastes the chopper, that's Venom. I guess he was super pissed just right then.

Man, why wasn't Drebin even mentioned in MGSV... He's origin fits to well...
How would they have mentioned him? Even if he was in it? Don't get me wrong, I don't think missing an opportunity to shoehorn in yet another established character for the sake of "connecting" things again would be a real loss, but to play devil's advocate for a second... you could also ask why wasn't "Psycho Mantis" mentioned in MGSV? Because even though he was clearly in the game, it was a codename he received at FOXHOUND like "Liquid" being Eli as obvious as it is wasn't explicitly stated until the end credits timeline.

"Drebin 893" is a codename the character wouldn't have even been assigned when he was a child soldier but when he was recruited by the Patriots, so hey... if you really wanted you could maybe make it your headcanon that it was one of the nameless African kids before he could recruited by Cipher, I guess? I mean, nothing was mentioned in the timeline stating as such (same for the Third Child being Mantis) but the Sigint = Darpa theory floated around for a while before it was made canon in 4 so who knows.

Holy crap, [Full Stealth] Pitch Dark just bugged out good. I don't know if it was becase I was annoyed by Miller keep blabbing shit while I tried to listen to the tapes about the infection. Anyways, as I was walking over the swamp between the abandoned village and the first one and suddenly the cutscene where Venom shuts down the pump starts and suddenly I am standing in the control room. I retained everything from before, the sidegoal I aquired (saving the child soldiers) and the ammo stand of my tranq sniper. I could just play normally further until I blew up the tank with C4 after I got out of the facility I was back in some part random part of the facility after the explosion cutscene plays. Anyone got that bug or any kind of that?
