i thought volgin being still barely alive was ok, he was a cool enemy as the Man on Fire.
what I didn't like is how you go extract his body, have a last hallucination, and then his storyline just ends with his corpse on Mother Base and nothing else.

I S-Ranked it on foot, get on my level :V

With what launcher? I think a couple of times I shot it with a Grom and then that multi-launcher javelin looking thing and thought the damage was so poor that I shouldn't bother.

How many supply drops did you need?

Ditto.

I thought Mantis was creating demons out of your psyche. But nope... its real. Which led me to question where does the Whale come from. Still to get an answer to that. lol.

So how comes Sahelanthropus is waaaaaaaaaay cooler than REX despite being built 20 years before it

If I'm missing something obvious please forgive me, I have not played MGS1 in a few years.

That's gotta be said about a lot of the plot threads. The missing stuff really hurts.

I assume because Huey is actual insanely good at building WMDs and his expertise was lost and the research set back by decades.

Patriot information suppression.

Rex has a cooler design anyway IMO, but Sahelanthropus is nice too. Looks like Rex when it's squatting down anyway.

Its actually not completely operational, Mantis makes it work basically.

And lets remember that Rex is stuck in a hanger for its fight.

Well Rex is fully operational while Sahelanthropus is basically an expensive toy.

If all the rumours of Kojima about requesting stuff and just throwing it out later....

"All" the rumours? Could you provide a source for that? Because all I ever heard regarding that topic was a composer who hasn't worked with Kojima for more than a decade (MGS 1-3) and who said he didn't use a few of his songs and who explicitly stated to having no information about the current situation at Konami nor any insider contacts.

To this day I have no idea why anyone paid any attention to it. Well, obviously, it presented some easy answers to questions nobody knows the answers to, but come on...

Sahelanthropus was just for show, a deterrent, it wasn't capable of actually firing a nuke IIRC. The tapes explained this, which is why it can jump all over the place thanks to Mantis.

Sahelanthropus has several critical design flaws, one of which a cockpit only big enough to fit a child.

Also, it gets completely destroyed in the cut mission [episode 51], and probably erased from history by Cipher to prevent the mass-hysteria as planned by Skull Face..

What's up with all the Moby Dick references? I've never read the book so the associations don't mean much to me
Literary allusions. Ahab parallels venom, both lost a limb and are seeking revenge. Ishmael is the actual protagonist and narrator of moby dick, or so it seems in the book at first

They bring it back to MB though in ep51, so it is probably researched to be remade into something that can't be taken out so easily. Salhentropos is mostly for show according to Huey himself, could be taken out easily. To make it actually viable they would have to lower its center of gravity, etc, Huey basically spells out the thing has to be redesigned if it's going to be used in the battlefield.

I realized something: how does Ocelot get in cahoots with Eli in MGS1? They seem at odds, and even if Mission 51 is the progenitor to Eli wanting revenge - perhaps culminating in the Shadow Moses incident - I don't see how Ocelot paints himself to go with that at all.

That one was actually pretty well explained: Sahelanthropus has no way of actually functioning on its own, the locomotion at such a big scale is mostly useless, and it can't be piloted br by AI or adult pilot, plus it can't fire nukes. Only reason it was a threat was because Mantis was using it as a puppet.

REX outclasses it in every important way.

Nanomachine gene brainwashing therapy because Ocelot is a quintuple agent.

So I'm watching my friend stream his playthough of the game, a cutscene between Eli and one of the kids happened where the kid called him by his real name. Eli doesn't like it, gets aggressive with a DD soldier who tried to calm him down, and Ocelot puts him in his place.

I visited MB as much as I could but I guess I missed this cutscene. I wonder if I missed any more.

How annoying that actual parts of the story can actually be missed. Why? Sure that cutscene doesn't really add any more to the story but why make it so that players could possibly miss out? Terrible.

Really? I don't remember actually seeing this scene, I thought I heard it second hand from ocelot.

Ocelot to Eli is probably "my dad's friend I knew of when I was 12" so he doesn't think much of their past relationship. Ocelot did interrogate him but that was twenty years ago by MGS1, water under the bridge by that point especially considering that Ocelot wasn't rough with him at all.

Yeah, the story is flimsy and bad, but I think the real crime is so much of it is triggered by arbitrary means. I guess I missed a Quiet scene because I didn't hide in a dumpster for hours on a mission, and there's probably others I missed as well. Also, PAZ being in the game inside a medical door that you have no reason to ever walk by is stupid too.

The story progression is worse than the story and the bastardization of characters. But, maybe it is just the old Jewish joke of "such lousy food.... and such small portions!"

Ocelot is recruited to join Foxhound by Eli in 1999. By then Eli served in Iraq and even for the SAS.
We're also supposed to believe he was in cahoots with Naomi to have Paramedic killed.

Yeah I remember the tape where Ocelot mentions to Venom that Eli causes trouble and doesn't get along with adults on MB. So maybe if you miss that cutscene you get that tape to compensate? Still sucks.

My biggest gripe in terms of bastardization of characters within this game is Ocelot. He is nothing more than an informant/interrogator in MGSV and I can't figure why Kojima had Troy Baker made him sound like a Western gunslinger. The VA tone for Ocelot broke my immersion at times.

Idroids with personal projection displays, personal mechs, bionic jehuty fists, parasite super suits, and the only thing you question is sahelantropus?

Guys, there is one thing I just can't wrap my head around.

Actually, there are a thousand things I can't wrap my head around witht his game's story, but there is one that is so fundamental, one that has bothered me since the early days of GZ,

Why the fuck did Skullface want to kill Big Boss?

Like, seriously, what was his problem? This whoooole time I was ready to get some big revelation about Skull Face past, explaining his grudge against Boss...but...nothing. In fact, Big Boss had the VERY SAME INTERESTS Skull Face has regarding Cipher so why in the world would he attack his motherfucking base with a motherfucking nuke and a motherfucking Metal Gear when he could have just went to him saying :

"Hey there! Zero is an asshole. I don't like him and we both want him dead. I have this weird fucking parasite that exterminates the english language or something, but that plot seems kinda half-assed and not really explained all too well, so I'd much rather just use your guns and nukes and fucking Metal Gears instead. You cool? Great! Let's ask Paz where the guy is without putting a bomb in her vagina because that would be a pretty weird thing to do, right? Also, why does that medic guy next to you sound so much like you? Sounds convenient.. Anyhow, I got to go, have a good one!"

Please. Someone explain without using the word parasites. I beg you.

Such a lust for revenge.

I'm not sure I got this either.

Look at it this way
Sahelanthropis = no actual purpose, mainly for show, not operational.
Rex = massively defense based, great stability, fortified nuke launcher.
Ray = amphibious, offensive, highest maneuverability, anti-Metal Gear.
MP Ray = weaker in every way, mainly for show, designed to be used in group.

Especially when the VO work was inconsistent. Sometimes he's really western/southern, other times he's not. And Baker is a good enough VA to not have his accent wildly fluctuate at times. It's odd.

And, yeah, Ocelot isn't consistent in the series, and Miller seems to waffle at times, and so on as has been discussed ad nauseum. From Ambien Big Boss, to Oscillating Ocelot, to Manic Miller, to Comatose Code Talker, to Not-My-Native-Tongue Quiet, and so on, I don't know how there isn't universal agreement that this is the worst voice acted Metal Gear Solid game, worse than Peace Walker.

A lot of people are saying that it's because he wanted to screw with Zero and get him to make a move, since Zero still cared about Big Boss and Skull Face doesn't like Zero for whatever reason. It could be that, or that Skull Face was super angry about how he had to clean up after Naked Snake in MGS3.

The true answer is that
Kojima doesn't care and didn't really think this story through.

Ocelot has always been a Western gunslinger. That's his shtick. Along with torturing folk, which we also get a decent slice of to enjoy. Ocelot stands out for me in TPP namely because he's the only one 99% of the time who's talking sense.

I find it hilarious the worst voice actor of MGS4 is the best(or my favorite at least) in V.

Because of a Lust for Revenge.

Revenge for what?! I know, you are fucking with me, but seriously, what did Boss ever do to that guy? Does Kojima understand the concept of "Revenge"? It doesn't mean "the feelings of a guy with a skull for a face who just wants to straight-up murder everyone".

Every single fucking time anyone does anything that person just shouts "REVENGE" at the camera and Skullface screams "WHOOOOO?!" when all I'm thinking is "HOOOOOWWW?! and "WHAAAAT?! and ohgodwhydidthegameturnoutlikethis.
