SPOILER: Metal Gear Solid V Spoiler Thread | Such a lust for conclusion, T-WHHOOOO

It had the shell of a Metal Gear plot but no filling.

Weirdly enough the most apt analogy is fan fiction. MGS V seems kind of like something you'd get in a mainline release, but lacking the detail, quirk, and identifiable character.

I think all that plus the way the game is laid out give the player perceived ADD.

There's no way to follow a story this bland and dense stretched across 50ish episodes.

I don't understand. Do the vehicles get stronger the more you play? Got a level 4 of the lock on missiles on D-Walker and the description says it can "pierce tank armor with ease"

I try it on Back up, Back Down normal with the APCs and it takes 3 shots. What?

Guess I better start using the EMN mines

Some tanks are stronger than others, yes.

If you can't fulton then, then C4 is the best option.

I feel so conflicted trying to rank this game. Even through its faults, i'd say this is still 95/100 type of game (at least).

With that said, this is a MGS game and it didn't deliver very well in one of the key departments for an MGS game--story.

Still, this game has, easily, the best gameplay of any MGS game, but it's not like the other games had bad gameplay in their own respective times.

I guess I'd say...ugh this is hard:

3 > 4 (come at me) > 1 > V > 2

The weird thing is I fucking love 2 and that ranking doesn't make it seem like it. All those games are masterpieces though, imo.

They never stop moving though, I guess my only option is an EMC mine or parking a car in front of them.

I guess I just really dislike engaging vehicles in this, carryover from PW I guess

Ok 2 things.

1. I unlocked the ability to develop Raiden by S ranking Mission 46. But I still have 2 missions left to S rank? The guide said the Grand Master Certificate must be unlocked by S ranking all missions. What the hell. I will S rank the last 2 and see if anything changes.

2. Jesus christ at that R&D requirement. Are you kidding me? I wanted to use Raiden for Side Ops. I've played this shit for 50 hours so I can't say I dislike the game. But I'm starting to.

The MMO requirements to unlock things suck. I'm now done with the game, and there are so many weapons and items I would have loved to have used, but I don't want to drag the game on for 100 hours. It's not a RPG.

Had my iPhone on shuffle and Nuclear started playing

I tried it on Extreme and all 8 rockets literally do nothing to a tank. Still takes 2 rpgs.

I found bombardments handy though.

What are the odds they patch in the ability to use Quiet post-mission 45? There's got to be demand for it since she's arguably the most useful buddy in the game. And, speaking personally, without her incredible helpfulness in missions, I kind of don't have the energy to go do the missing side ops without her.

No, because we really are the Phantom Pain, Joel.

In seriousness, I don't see it happening, especially if the whole TPP meta thing was actually intentional. I mean, the real problem here too is that you only have ONE save file.

Wow so the Extreme, Subsistence, and Total Stealth missions do not require an S rank to get Raiden.

All that time wasted....

While you may be right, I wonder if the fan theories excusing the faults of the game will become as bad as the indoctrination "theory" of Mass Effect 3.

Probably zilch. Which sucks. I prob won't bother with s ranks or mission objectives now.

Okay, maybe not. What about the trophy?

I just finished it tonight to. I'm a little conflicted on how I feel about the ending, though I will say I do like the little detail that the phantom Boss you play as in the game is the one who Solid Snake kills in the original Metal Gear. I'm guessing in that game the real Big Boss was still the one giving him orders by codec while the phantom was the one actually at the base?

I use the RPGs for destroying tanks. Level 4 RPG is pretty decent against tanks and metal gear until you unlock the super powered 5 star+ launchers.

Protip: If you do use EMP mines and some clever position of other vehicles as a barricade, you can S rank Back Up, Back Down without firing a single shot. Did it today on the Extreme version.

So I have rescued Quiet to which she disappeared in the desert, played the Truth version of the prologue, and met Paz. Is there anything that I haven't seen from the story? Is the game over?

I mean Eli still has the Metal Gear, does the game just never resolve that?

Also I realize how stupid it was that Zero was still alive for MGSIV, it would have been so much better if he died afterall from what Skullface infected him with.

Finally, why did Zero want Snake alive? Wasn't it Cipher killing all of those people in the hospital to try and find and kill Snake during the prologue?

It's heavily implied that Zero was losing grasp on his own organization, notably to SF in the tapes.

I'll ask this here too:

There were still a few scenes from trailers I never saw in the game, most notably the scene of Snake in Africa with all the burned/dead bodies around him from the E3 2014 trailer and the scene on Mother Base of the soldiers in a knife fight. I guess those were cut, or did I somehow miss them?

Also I had trouble understanding what was going on in the post-credit stinger between Miller and Ocelot. Was Miller mad at Big Boss because he wouldn't be able to be a part of his true Outer Heaven or something?

I just got the ending, I don't like it. So the entire game we were playing as a fake snake, how does this even relate to the other games? And what happened to Eli?

That huge plot left hanging is resolved in the youtube level.

Wait is this in the game or what?

EDIT - It's only on the collector's PS4 edition? What? Why?

It sort of does if you played Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2, the MSX games I mean. In the second game, Snake seems so surprised that Big Boss is alive since he was so sure that he killed him in the first game.

How do you think Big Boss survived being killed in MG1?

What happened to Eli? He stole Sahelanthropus along with the children. He is Liquid Snake. He's off to emulate Big Boss as best he can.

It relates because Big Boss is not a character but an idea.

The knife fight scene happens if you go back to MB while your GMP is in the red. The other scene was cut. Miller was mad because Miller's defining character trait in this game is "mad."

Just finished it.

I really get the feeling Kojima didn't think this would be his last Metal Gear game, because man does this seem like a weird note to leave the series on.

People need to stop saying this game explains how BB survives MG1, it's revealed he survived at the end of the game itself, he never died in the first place.

Skull Face being dragged away scene was added post production so Kojima could recreate his experience with leaving Konami

I need help with the truth records, if Zero knows that BB has a phantom then what is the point? isn't he the enemy? why not kill them both there?

So there is that one scene where Code Talker gives you a cryptic comment about the bugs warning about Miller.

Is that referencing anything at all? Does anything happen in relation to that? I mean I can see where the bugs are coming from since he is a huge twat but I figured there would be a story beat to coincide with that foreshadowing.

It's nothing.

Six months from now:

INTERVIEWER: So why did Code Talker say "eyes on Kazuhira"?

KOJIMA: That was the parasites trying to warn Venom Snake that Miller was spending too much money on the secret hamburger restaurant R&D.

I'm starting to lean that BB was working for FoxHound in MG, meaning CIA/Cipher tangentially.

Gov't wants Fox to investigate Outer Heaven and BB is like "shit, well, play along time" so he inevitably sends Snake, an absolute rookie, to go run intel.

See, BB never really liked his clones and some of the dialog in the game seems to point that he harbored almost animosity towards them (and the program, obviously).

However, V was him. V was a real version of himself, carrying out the same goals and ends as himself. His clones? Those were autonomous beings with their own ends, not BB's.

But, we know Solid Snake is the true hero of the series and sends V packing with the fishes.

I...don't know how to feel about the game. I wouldn't say it's as good as MGS3 or MGS2. Maybe not even as good as MGS or MG2, but it was very enjoyable and unique. Maybe time will be more generous to it.

It just feels so...unfinished. It's crazy about the amount of stuff Kojima couldn't put in. The game was suppose to be so ambitious.

The Patriots evolved beyond Zero, that's established in the beginning of the game, plus MGS2 and 4.

Skull Face being dragged away scene was added post production so Kojima could recreate his experience with leaving Konami

In the original script, Skull Face successfully operates Metal Gear using Mantis. The second half of the game becomes a race against the clock as the most powerful private military in the world - now XOF - squares off with Diamond Dogs.

However, after his falling out, Kojima rewrote the scene, using Eli to symbolize Konami. Skull Face, Hideo's stand in for the scene, is left screaming and impotent, dragged off by his few loyal men as he watches own creation ripped from his hands. A powerful visual metaphor.
