I went ahead and did Mission 45, and I'm glad I did, it was a nice wrap up to Quiet's story, the last cut scene was really great and I'm sure I'll miss having her as a buddy. The mission it self was hard as hell, I actually for the first time used the chicken hat just to get it over with even though I died a few after equipping it.

Plus I backed up my save in case I do change my mind lol.

It doesn't even do it :')

instead, it works against it, filling in the giant time gap for us to say he turned evil with instead non evil actions
We see Big Boss brainwashing a loyal soldier of his, stealing his memories, life, and language, and forcing him to build Big Boss's legacy while the real Big Boss goes into hiding. Then when the time comes (Metal Gear 1) Big Boss sacrifices this soldier, allowing him to die in place of BB.

This is the sort of thing that happened to The Boss, the thing that made Big Boss leave FOX, the thing that Big Boss vowed he would never let happen to another soldier ever again.

In MGSV, we saw Big Boss become the thing he hates.

So we're saying that Big Boss starts Outer Heaven, Venom steals it and revolts, then BB sends Solid Snake to kill Venom?

Nah Venom was just the guy Big Boss set up to fall when FOXHOUND and the Patriots got involved.

yeah before the game even starts lol

"I never would have taken you for such a hypocrite, Big Boss..."

-Solid Snake, Metal Gear 2

"Even I make mistakes from time to time."

-Big Boss, Metal Gear 2

AWESOME ENDING

hooooly shit.

i was played like a damn fiddle and I LOVED IT.

i really enjoyed how the ending was an homage to the fans.

Who knows, maybe there is something in the game that let's you get her back, but no one has found it yet.

You play Chrono Cross of course

If you ask me, BB already fell in Peace Walker. By the end of that game, he has forsaken The Boss and created Outer Heaven. Hell, he wanted to kill Paz in Ground Zeroes. MGSV just shows us one really terrible thing Big Boss does when he wakes up from his coma.

Someone should really ask Kojima a bunch of inconvenient questions in his next interview, things like:

- Where does he keep Tomokazu Fukushima's body?

- Why in the world he has chosen Shuyo Murata as his writing partner?

- How can BB and VS enter in a coma and awake almost at the same time?

- Gray Fox, Naomi and Sniper Wolf? I'm pretty sure BB met them in the 80's, and the setting is almost a match too.

- Liquid said in MGS1 that BB chose him knowing that he was the inferior one, when did this happened?

- The whole descent to hell and becoming a demon, where is it? Not in this game I'm afraid.

- Boss fights? It was too much to ask for a cool hand to hand clash against Skull Face? For fucks sake, dude was BB's backup in Operation Snake Eater, I'm pretty sure he knew his way in a fight.

And bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting right now...

ok, randomly Quiet disappeared, bringing the side mission of "rescue Quiet", and she's no longer available.

I'm already screwed, aren't I, and no more Quiet.

Well, they state that BB was only in a coma for 2 years, and VS was out for 9 (and potentially not really in a coma, but a drug induced forced coma, wakened when it became necessary)

Naomi, etc, could happen right afterwards, or be something that BB does and we don't see.

I figure the "Becoming a Demon" to be the quarantine scene, or just finding out who he really is, leading to a pissed off "BB" of MG1.

The other stuff, absolutely.

But did BB intend for SS to kill V? That's what seems unclear and people seem to debate it.
It's not 100% clear but the ending dialogue confirms that Venom was at least doing what BB wanted until Operation Intrude 313.

Some people have argued that he gets the tape in '84, but I think everything points to that final mirror scene as taking place in Outer Heaven in '95, right as Solid Snake is infiltrating Outer Heaven. Regardless of how Venom feels about being Big Boss or how you interpret the mirror punching scene, in V's final speech to Snake, it has him claim proudly that he is Big Boss.

Wasn't Naomi found by Gray Fox, I don't remember her mentioning interacting with BB, unless that happens in MGS 4.

By the time Big Boss wakes up the V project is already well underway. The whole thing was Zero's idea anyway. Could he have told Ocelot to undo the hypnosis or the surgeons to alter his face back? I guess. By then it was kind of too late though. He let it go on for years but that's not the kind of thing you can stop easily once it's going. Venom was glad to have been of service right up until the second he realized he was about to be killed.

We don't really know what happens to make BB send Solid after Venom. Without that context it's hard to say if killing him was warranted or not. The events in the cut chapter may very well have finally turned Venom into a villain for all we know.

The past few games have gone out of their way to paint Big Boss as a lighter shade of grey than the "villain" the old games painted Big Boss as.

BB saves the world from nuclear holocaust in Peace Walker. He builds his own Metal Gear in hopes of having a deterrent against the superpowers that were now keenly aware of his existence, but Zero's agent Paz decides to try and steal it from him. The guy had reason to be pissed off at Paz by the events of GZ.

Pretty much agreed PW is the fall of Big Boss. Dude is basically not the secret hero that MGS4 makes his reveal out to be. Dude just sat back and orchestrated things with Ocelot just like Zero did. Their conflict was honestly pretty thin to begin with, and with TPP they seem more similar than ever.

Neither of them were worthy of The Boss.

Solid Snake was really the only real successor to The Boss and the guy never met her.

actually this is easy, Venom is sedated until BB awakens.

Do you need to be awake for plastic surgery? Wonder why they didn't bother doing it until BB woke up

BB definitely seems to have been awake for awhile by the time V is finally able to move around. Him having been kept in a coma for some amount of time would definitely make more sense than them both having woken up around the same time.

I'm not sure why Big Boss tells him that he's been "protecting him for 9 years" or something along those lines. A lot of it is kind of vague.

Man, fuck this game. Lol

I'm just sitting here not following anything anymore. Parasites ? Yellowcake? Sperm killing bacteria? Awkward bipedal segways made of nuclear metal WHAT. THE FUCK. AM I LISTENING TO?

Holy fuck this was supposed to be most straightforward story arc. Big Boss is forced to kill his mentor, loses his way, his faith, goes bananas...

How can you fuck up human nature, kojima?

It's the easiest way to explain things going sour, but no. We need all this crazy whirlwinding shit hurricane to make this game. It's like he can't help himself from trying relate every half baked theme his games have touched on with each new release, by having an even craaaazier retcon than the last one.

Why can't your new game be just a stepping stone? Why can't it just tie the timelines and leave things as they are?

Honestly?

Metal Gear Solid is a trilogy.

Metal Gear Solid ended with 3.

I'm out.

See y'all on MGO.

Sedated for who knows how many years? Is such thing even possible?
Also, I never understood why VS has bandages in his arm after 9 years in a coma.

A medically induced coma is a thing. I don't know how long you could do it to someone though.

MGO to have Mantis character, player currently shouting loudest in the mic about how disappointed they are gets his powers

If you shout "WHOOOOO?!" you're dragged away and saved from all harm (for a while).

Reading BB's article on wikia...

While discussing Dr. Strangelove's nickname, Big Boss assumed that she acted in the movie, causing Strangelove to call him "stupid."

During his days as a CIA agent and mercenary, Big Boss indicated that he held several beliefs in myths and the supernatural, in conversations with his comrades:

He stated that thinking about vampires gave him nightmares, in a radio conversation with Para-Medic regarding vampire bats. For this reason, he would rather she didn't utter the name "Dracula" when speaking to him (as she was quite the movie buff). His fear of vampires was also noted by a female soldier in the Militaires Sans Frontières.

Big Boss revealed to Huey Emmerich that he believed in Santa Claus, going so far as to argue for his existence.

In his later years, Big Boss was shown to be a wisecracker, such as asking whether a uniform Snake procured was a girl's high school uniform, or whether he was moving house after he located a cardboard box.
For turning into such a closed minded warmonger, the guy sure was a goofball.

i dont know i thought the story we got, parasites nonwithstanding, was pretty standard metal gear fare, if a little devoid of the series' usual exploration of themes. Skullface's XOF force is going to use this parasite to eliminate the world's lingua franca and then replace it with his business. Pretty simple. If only the game ended there...

So there is that one scene where Code Talker gives you a cryptic comment about the bugs warning about Miller.

Is that referencing anything at all? Does anything happen in relation to that? I mean I can see where the bugs are coming from since he is a huge twat but I figured there would be a story beat to coincide with that foreshadowing.

It had the shell of a Metal Gear plot but no filling.

Weirdly enough the most apt analogy is fan fiction. MGS V seems kind of like something you'd get in a mainline release, but lacking the detail, quirk, and identifiable character.

Are you sure?
Zero visited him in the hospital around 77, I don't remember the exact year, but its in one the Truth tapes and BB was still in a coma.
And even if this was right, why would he return to the hospital where people are trying to kill him anyway?

It's nothing.

Ok 2 things.

1. I unlocked the ability to develop Raiden by S ranking Mission 46. But I still have 2 missions left to S rank? The guide said the Grand Master Certificate must be unlocked by S ranking all missions. What the hell. I will S rank the last 2 and see if anything changes.

2. Jesus christ at that R&D requirement. Are you kidding me? I wanted to use Raiden for Side Ops. I've played this shit for 50 hours so I can't say I dislike the game. But I'm starting to.
